Re: Chandrayan-1 mission launched succesfully

BTW.. y2no is a highly respected website and calculations are accurate. There is always a gap ( at least a day ) between the orbital measurements carried out by the satellite operator ( ISRO in CY case ) and published in public domain in sites such as y2no and celestrak. It is not intentional but t...

Re: Chandrayan-1 mission launched succesfully

Any ideas why the originally planned apogee of 386,194 km (overshooting the moon's orbit?) has been reduced to 380,000 km (undershooting!!) ... Add to that the FOURTH dimension: TIME Spacecraft takes finite time to travel and so although you may command it to point to moon you have to consider the ...

Re: Chandrayan-1 mission launched succesfully

It is a question of sensor fidelity (or sensitivity) and need. Note that ability to sense all regions of the spectrum is different from the ability to discriminate between them. Let me explain.... The HySI captures 80m resolution imagery in visible & near- IR bands (64 contiguous) ... Thanks la...

From ISRO's site -- "The Terrain Mapping Camera (TMC): The aim of this instrument is to completely map the topography of the moon. The camera works in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum and captures black and white stereo images." Why is it that the camera, in spite of bein...

Thanks SSridhar! So n2yo's datapoints may be in, but calculations are still faulty. :)

Chinese media questions Chandrayaan's success Just now checked the n2yo website which is mentioned in the article, and is being brandished by the Chinese. Re: Chandrayan-1 mission launched succesfully

I can also photoshop the image of moon and boost the saturation to give "clues" ... will it be scientifically acceptable? Will it be useful? It is basically a pretty picture [and confirmation of] what we already know! Not what we want to know. Will it give for example the Iron mineral dis...

Put it this way, we as humans have gone to moon, but we do not know the mineral distribution of moon!! From "Apollo in Perspective - Spaceflight Then and Now" by Jonathan Allday: About four hours and two orbits later the service module engine was fired again to circularize the orbit ... at 100 km by 120 km. Interestingly this was a very well designed orbit as the variations in the Moon's gr...
