Re: Kaveri & Aero-Engine: News & Discussion
As someone pointed out, OEMs never start with a clean slate while developing a new engine. So in a co-development what is the fair share of work that Indian technologists can bring to the table? Where is the leverage here? I strongly believe that salvation still resides in pursuing Kaveri. GE and Sa...

Re: Kaveri & Aero-Engine: News & Discussion
Excellent posts Maitya ji. Gives a lot of hope in terms of the future of the program and what are the low hanging fruits. When we have 2000+ engines required in the next 3-4 decades, I am just appalled that people with the purse string don't see the logic of releasing funds to GTRE. I hope Kaveri re...

Re: Kaveri & Aero-Engine: News & Discussion
It's all too muddled and murky now. Always thought the carrier based fighter tender would be an indicator of how the engine contact might go. But discussions with France is stalled. There is a real need for GE as we have at least 3 platforms on the drawing board based on F414. If at there is some se...

Thomas ji's comments are extremely well timed, considering our negotiations are going full steam with both US and UK. It seems to be a game of poker right now. Probably France is overconfident with their leverage with the existing Rafale jets, and the impending 114 jet sale. Engine selection will have a very direct impact on MRFA selection and maintenance. French may be least forthcoming, even though It is their opportunity to lose.

India is not serious about significant investments into aero engines. The engine that India is asking for does not exist today. We are again back to the untested platform with an untested engine problem. Certification of radar based weapons and the radome (re)certification/modifications will come to bite the Uttam. Better keep Uttam aside for next few years and let it mature. A half baked Uttam won't help with operational numbers, and HAL will use it as an excuse for any delays in delivery.

Shouldn't they lower the orbit and take a closer look? who will fault them if anything goes wrong after a 1000 days in orbit.
They should specify how much of the missions objectives were achieved so far, what are the findings from each of the payloads etc.
