There has been a lot of talk about air to air combat and missiles being fired/missing etc. Here is an old video of Israeli F-15s against Syrian MiG 21s. Note how the first missile misses even though it gets close and he had a lock.

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir
It is amazing how coordinated these attacks are. Business Insider (Will not link to the cr@p article) has taken the FP article and written one of their own. Interestingly, their article promptly uses the F-16 claim to also promote that the Balakot strikes were a failure and everything is a big embar...

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir
Like most of us here, I have been following the narrative in India and Bak for the last couple of months. A pattern below I have noticed with each incident that sometimes even reflects on BRF. It would be immensely frustrating to our armed forces that speak the truth, do what is right, admit and cor...

I hope someday the Tejas flies at the NDA passing out parade. Many eons back I had witnessed the Suryakirans flying out of the morning sun straight at the audience and it was an experience I will never forget. The Tejas fits into that picture beautifully!

That will be the plan. I bet PAF is desparately begging the Turks, Jordanians - anyone from their usual ummah friends - to lend them a few F-16s "off the record" so they can repaint them and pretend all iz well. Which is why the MOD should release the F-16 shootdown info, asap. Turkey is ...

What does this even mean ? Doesnt make sense Usually, just detecting an aircraft on radar doesn’t mean having a ‘firing solution’. In order to have a firing solution, you need accurate azimuth, elevation and range/velocity data. Unlike ground radars, aircraft radars aren’t stationary. Also our airc...

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir
See at the high speed the R-73 travels in the end zone it needs transverse/lateral pulses to do the steering as there is not enough space (v^2/R) to do the gradual turn needed for TVC. Transverse control engine is essentially a motor with lateral/divert nozzles to provide the thrust. Makes sense. T...

Thanks Rakesh for the pictorial explanation. The article also quotes the following. Their exceptionally high accuracy is ensured by the missile's main secret, the so-called transverse control engine, which rules out misses during the final approach trajectory. The transverse control engine is still ...

Their goal would have been just that. Somehow get an MKI hit and since we don't hide our losses, they could tom-tom it as them coming in and beating our best in our own airspace. All that bravado however disappeared when they realized the enemy here can and will shoot back! What people forget is jus...

Please answer the question only if it is open information:
On the MiG 21 Bis, are the countermeasures (Chaff/flares) dispensed manually by the pilot when he believes he is threatened or is there an automated system?

BTW in a case of fratricide, a paki mujahid pilot fired a missile and shot down his wingman. Link? Hopefully it was a F16 of Fizzleya. This is an old incident in 1987 against the Soviets. The F-16's were up against MiG 23s. The theory was that the F-16 leader was shot down by his wingman.
