Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A News & Discussions: 09 February 2018
Also, SJha answered one of question : are we on track for 12 this year? Question is coming bcoz just 1 have been produced till now in current year. https://twitter.com/SJha1618/status/1044851828649848833 ---> HAL says it is. We still have six months to go before we come to end of fiscal 2018-19. le...

Re: Indian Army News & Discussions - 11 June 2014
Folks, shared some thoughts on the recent photograph that depicted own soldiers dragging the body of a dead terrorist. May have a look. By the time this photograph was taken, the body would have already been checked for booby traps / concealed grenades. My reasons for believing this are 1. Dragging...

It is odd that the paramilitary forces are getting MI-17s but the army whiose requirement is 10x larger has to struggle to convince policy makers to get itw own fleet of med-lift choppers and even anti-armour Apaches

Re: China Military Watch - Sept' 2016
We can laugh and mock China’s progress at our own peril. The fact remains that they are a couple of decades ahead of us in most technologies and in industrialisation of that. Sure they have failures and some of their equipment is overhyped and rushed into service, but that is also an indication of t...

Re: Indian Military Helicopters
Prashant, Do look up the opening war sequences of Desert Storm and OAF. Apaches were used to destroy early warning sites. Pakistani radar sites have been a bug bear for IAF in 1965 and 1971. I think IAF plans to use them for their own missions and roles. I did consider this possible role (and menti...

Could also be an RPO. However I thought the size of the explosion seemed much larger than the ones in all the rpo videos on youtube. But i could be wrong. Hope someone with field contacts can confirm the weapon used. Btw does anyone knows why the SF in the 'surgical strikes carried carl gustavs and ...

Bravo! Loved how all the smart phones are whipped out to capture the moment...
From the explosion, it seemed to me to be from something fired from ground level, not something coming down from the air... wont be surprised if it was a field gun in direct fire mode from close range

Re: Indian Military Helicopters
Not really. IA needs support in the strike corps. Those helicopters will be organized into flights and assigned to the corps. All anti-armor role. IAF are for attack/strike role. Support secondary. Both services know this. Let's leave it at that. Can you elaborate on "attack / strike" ple...

So, how is the Hardened Air Shelter(HAS) program going for the IAF to upgrade aircraft hangers? I have given up on fast progress on this front. Will believe something is happening when i see it with my eyes on google earth. Have fretted about this particular vulnerability of the IAF for long (as it...

Progress (or lack of it) can be viewed in planet.com's satellite imagery, which is updated once a month. The free, low-res imagery is sufficient to see that nothing has come up. Quite a good update of the helicopters. The Tumkuru facility start is now two years old . What's the progress? Tejas Line ...

Re: India's Retaliation Options to significant terrorist strikes
My 2 bits.... i find it very difficult to comprehend how after decades of crying out after each attack that we will retaliate at a time and place of our choosing, we hardly ever have. For this i can think of no one else but the army leadership to blame. What capability have they developed to retalia...

in the other deltas like Gripen, the sweep angle near the fuselage is more than outer part. in Tejas it is uniquely reversed. even the avro vulcan follows the gripen rule and no other contemporary plane has the tejas layout. Atleast one example exists, and a very successful / capable one at that......

Even assuming it was a bird strike, the engine is permanently wrecked and so relight is irrelevant and impossible.

Re: Military Flight Safety
After this accident the IAF grounded the Mig-27 fleet for some time, indicating that it wasn't a bird strike. The KM-1M is not a zero-zero seat. The minimum speed at 0 altitude, like was the case here, is 130 km/h.

Re: Military Flight Safety
One site says the KM-1M ejection seat is safe for 0 feet/130 km/h. At unstick, a Mig-27 is around 340-350 km/h. Also, this was more likely a case of the turbine disintegrating, and not a fuel fire to begin with. The pilot would have done what he felt was best in the given situation.

Yes, Jagan.... very tragic.... no doubt which accident this was... even the visuals can be matched to Hashimara... and the video was clearly taken from the ATC (would appear that IAF ATCs now video record all takeoffs and landings) ... the person (Garag22) on whose page it is posted appears (or want...

Jagan, I was going through the MIG-25 thread on BRF homepage and also the material on 'Warbirds of India' site and I noticed that neither sites mention a MiG-25R that crashed near Station Arty Officers' Mess, Jodhpur in summer of 1985 or 86. The crash site was approximately 2-3kms in a straight lin...
