Johann that was very much a serious query. Anyway, I believe that the British through their determined and successful campaign in Burma retrieved much of the lost prestige of the defeats in the earlier Burma and Malayan Campaigns. This allowed them to quit India with their honour intact. The French ...

That 'metal ring' is a Chakra or Quiot. Earlier used as a throwing weapon by Sikh soldiers it later became a turban ornament. Used by Sikh Regt, SLI, 15 Punjab (1 Patiala) and earlier by 15th Punjab Regt (now in Pakistan) and Probyn's Horse. BTW these SLI soldiers are wearing the more popular privat...

The article is obviously based IMHO on, short-term political strategy ie winning the General Elections for the current govt. In any case, in the absence of details can we take this article very seriously ? Lets debate, which is obviously the intention of this article, to provoke a debate but not tak...

There was a lovely Haryanavi folk song to which the dancers were swinging this morning on Rajpath, 'Mera veera paltan mein jaa raha sai'. I thought it was brilliant.

Re: Profiles in Heroism: Archive
Kanavdeep was from 10 Sikh. It was very moving to see at his funeral, his mother, 3 sisters and a brother (all Canadian citizens) asking people, with folded hands, not to shed tears for the martyr, for he had died for his country. 'For how can man die batter than when facing fearful odds, for the as...

Sandeep, at it once again! If politicians are to blame for all the ills besieging us where do you stand my friend? Don't you think you're accentuating differences by your championing of Gen Shabeg Singh ? And why this lionizing of Gen Shabeg alone to the detriment of other generals ? Sandeep doesn't...

Re: India's Generals who made an Impact
I would enjoin my fellow Indians not to take my clansman, Sandeep, seriously. He tends to let his emotions get the better of his judgement. Gen Shabeg Singh was a distinguished soldier with an unorthodox bent of mind who excelled in the role of a commander of irregular troops prior to and during the...

Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh deserves all our congratulations on his promotion. Why did it take the system 33 long years to honour him ? <p>You can correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the timing of the honour just the tiny bit suspicious ? I mean on the eve of the Punjab elections a pro...
