Re: Indian Military Aviation- Jan 10 2012

Binnaguri is the HQ for 20 Mtn Div, it's along the foothills of Kalimpong hills, directly south of the tri-junction, it could have an Army Aviation Base though. The main Army aviation base for 33 corps is located at Sevoke on the outskirts of Siliguri Town.

They are deployed at Sikkim-Tibet border as well. There is a Sector HQ here at Gangtok headed by a DIG (Gangtok Sector).

Re: North East & Eastern Himalayan: News & Discussion

Just a nitpick but the Gorkhaland Territorial Council does not extend to the entire district of Darjeeling, it is only in the three hill sub divisions of Darjeeling, hence the map would be slghtly different, the colored parts would only be immediately south of Sikkim and not around the chicken neck ...

Re: China Military Watch - Jan 11, 2011

What is interesting is, since they are 10 kms inside our territory why not block their exit route, some 8 kms from the LAC then, with the Ladakh Scouts camp 500 mtrs from their camps, intimidate them, and force them to call a flag meeting to get their troops out of the dead log. That would teach the...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012

AFAIK not so far. In fact getting Arjun to Ladakh as of now itself is uncertain (to me) -- there are no a/cs which can take it there, and the roads are barely being made ready to take T 72s/T 90s (there was an article on this development, not sure how much is done) Well as of now, the highway to Si...

Re: Indian Military Aviation- Jan 10 2012

IAF order is not in effect as of now. First batch of 20 SPs an only be produced after IOC-2 and second batch of 20 after FOC, so it is conditional order. Order would have been if they would have accepted 40 LCA per LSP-8. That's why I am saying IAF is doing an Arjun to LCA The fact of the matter is...

Re: Siachen News & Discussion

Well as per Hamid Hussain's analysis in orbat.com "Lieutenant General Bikram Singh Backgrounder: Sikh Light Infantry (I think 6 SLI) officer. Good, professional officer but considered aggressive and very ambitious throughout his career. Sometimes could be overbearing and intolerable due to his ...

Re: Transport Aircraft for IAF

Instead of going for the direct replacement for Avros, wld have been great to see more C-130J s procured. It cld be the version without the super duper Spec-Ops add ons. With the upgraded An-32 already in service, getting shorter legged, lighter payload transports as a direct one on one replacement ...

Re: China Military Watch - Jan 11, 2011

This seems to be an older article from March, when Ex Pralay was going on in the East. For those of us here in the Eastern part of the country, it was a treat as fighters roared in the skies right past 9 at night. The exercise seemed quite intensive as fighter sorties went on throughout the day, eve...
