Re: China Military Watch - August 9, 2014
And if they dont? Are we ready for a full scale war after a decade if UPA- the worthless MMS and the Saints tender ministrations? War is not so simple as throwing the word around. If you start one you need the ability and the infrastructure to win and hold onto territory. Their army doesn't have th...

Re: India Border Watch: Security and Operations
PLA won't start a war, they don't have the numbers or the Infra to win a land battle or hold on to any piece. Its not 1962. Hurting China in trade is the best way to reply to them. We are one of the biggest markets, denying their companies ability to do work here hurts them in the long run. Giving t...

Re: Rafale & MMRCA News and Discussions-9 August, 2014
We need plan to have a stable base for future. Doesn't every new jet require a setup line not to mention a production line. Inventory diversification can only be allowed to certain extent. E.g. USAF for all its its size employs only 2 distinct types of fighters (F15 & F16)and plus one to that fr...

And IAF top brass continues to allow such arm twisting by not going for LCA in mass numbers.

Re: Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan - 19 Jul
Most of India - China problems will be out of the window if Chinese opt to focus on building trade relations with India instead of supplying weapons tech to Pakistan. Together these countries can be the driving force of Asia

Re: Prioritizing IAF Expenses (AMCA/FGFA/LCA/MMRCA/UAVs)
So, you want this to better spend Indian money. How will you better defend (actually not defend but flex military muscles) India with this kind of arrangement. I am sure a platform like AWACS, 18 in nos. will be needed to support a force structure of some size, comprising of x fighters, y helicopte...

Re: AMCA News and Discussions
We have more than enough multirole & air superiority fighters in ongoing and future projects Su30, Tejas, FGFA etc ...Shouldn't the AMCA be more of a dedicated bomber? F117 type combat profile?

Re: Indian Naval Discussion
In the next 10 years, IN will be mulling the replacement of Shishumar and Early Kilo's probably. We do not want a tender process to begin then right. Would it be better to start design work for future SSN now? Kalvari + Upgraded Sindhughosh will still give us at least 12-13 operational missile SSK ...

Re: Indian Naval Discussion
Today we have around 8-9 active SSK (Kilo + Shishumar) and 1 active SSN In next 6 years, We will have max 3-4 SSBN, max 2 SSN with min 10 to max 16 SSK (best case scenario) The SSK numbers are more than enough to hold whatever is remaining in PN today, whether they have AIP or not. SSN/SSGN versions...

Re: Prioritizing IAF Expenses (AMCA/FGFA/LCA/MMRCA/UAVs)
1. Privatize 51% or more of HAL to an Indian company like Tata. Put back the money from sale into expanding production lines and setting up an effective supply chain 2. Cancel MMRCA, focus on LCA Mk1 production line with Astra and Sudarshan. 3. Focus on LCA Mk2 4. Get Aakash batteries deployed 5. Ge...

Re: Rafale & MMRCA News and Discussions-9 August, 2014
^^^^ Tejas problems and Rafale are not linked but surely we can't afford to spend $20 bil on a new second line fighter along with costs of a new line of weapons and also on an indigenous fighter and also $30 bil on FGFA. Something will take a hit and it will mostly be Tejas and we can't afford that ...

Re: Rafale & MMRCA News and Discussions-9 August, 2014
I like the way we BRFites decide what is good for the IAF over the recommendations of several air chiefs who of course are all corrupt. And how we throw around 'LCA1' as if it is truly imminent, never mind that DRDO only realized 2 yrs ago that it was to be mass produced and needs to be engineered ...

Re: Rafale & MMRCA News and Discussions-9 August, 2014
Even if we sign contract today we will not have a Rafale sqdn before 2015 end and first indigenous before 2017 going by how we did for Mki; provided we do not have ToT delays like we are seeing in Scorpene Since Tejas Mk1 will get FOC soon, it would be better to build 100 of these and then scale up ...

Re: Indian Naval Discussion
Irrespective of the truth of Russian involvement here or French delays in Scorpene, it would be stupidity to blame all blame on our guys only. Any expertise we gain in sub building / repair is going to be at cost of their business. If we look at what we were spending (% wise) on foreign acquisition ...

Re: Indian Naval Discussion
+1 Philip We should buy Chakra 2 and also other Akula supposedly being built in Russia with our money. I don't think we need more than 4 SSBNs if they are carrying 5000km SLBMs. Ideally we could convert the Arihant itself into an SSGN (after the follow on subs are built) a la' Ohio class. If it can ...

Re: Indian Naval Discussion
Does anyone know the armament on the INS Chakra II?
It is supposed to be able to carry 22 Granat missiles which have been replaced with Klubs. In theory this should significantly increase its armament as the Klub has 1/7th the range of Grant and so should be much smaller.

Engine Upgrades for Su30
IAF had some problems with the engines. As per this link, these are being fixed with an upgrade which should improve the avialability greatly
