Re: Pakistan Nuclear Proliferation - 25 Dec 2003
From an academic view-point (which the non-proliferation community would fancy it represents), what is the argument for suggesting that transfer of nuclear technology from Pakistan did not occur with the highest level of collusion? On the face of it, there is no reason for this line of argument, oth...

Re: Addressing Self Determination
Calvin, That's a neat point you raised about the 'definition' of self-determination viz. the presence of violence as opposed to a genuine grievance related to the denial of fundamental rights. Now of course, the standard counter to that revelation is that violence exists as a response to the denial ...

Googling for 'Self Determination' brought out this: Foreign Policy in Focus - Take on Self- Determination They have a list of places they track on the basis of this issue (click on the tabs to the left). The write up on J&K mirrors much of the usual 'repression' crap, but I am hoping to do a mor...

Re: Indian Army - Revolution in Military Affairs
Ray Sahab, An RMA that seeks to neutralize the nuclear force of the enemy in a pre-emptive strike seems pretty much wishful thinking for us. So then, how about making it a non-factor in combat? In other words, provocative and punitive measures applied to hurt but not enough to lead to full blown war...

Re: LCA is Named Tejas!!!
Though the name Tejas is apt due its significance for the Indian aerospace program, it doesn't sound aggressive enough for a combat aircraft. But then, we don't commonly refer to Mig 29s as Baaz or the M2K as the Vajra, so it's o.k. I guess.

Kgoan, thanks. I hadn't thought of it like that. On the other hand, consider that India is probably the only country (excluding China where demos are a no-no) in the world which hasn't seen mass public demonstrations against the U.S. designs on Iraq. Don't know if that's a good thing or bad, but it ...

Leaving aside the agenda for now, there are some inconsistencies in Pravin Sawhney's article. First, his recommendation that India adopt a Parliamentary resolution condemning the impending U.S. action in Iraq. Earlier in the article, he notes how India did not gain anything substantial from the U.S....

India has since its independence faced an implacable enemy. These experiences have still not aroused sufficient interest in Indian civi...
