Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

Yes, honest people are helpless people....irrespective of the source of their honesty (upbringing or otherwise). Because people in our peer group will not declare the correct incomes. And I'm not even talking about professions where it is easy to mask real incomes. And please go easy on the question...

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

If TDS of salaried class didn't exist how many of the salaried people would have honestly declared incomes in our IT returns. Outside salary, do people declared FD and other interest income, rental income honestly? Our honesty as a group is an outcome of helplessness and not a principled stand to pa...

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

One important point regarding the heartburn over taxing some items at 5% or 12% even though they seem essential items is that you won't get input tax credit if rate is 0%. This will create disadvantage to domestic production as imports will be non taxed. The FinMin has released a press note today th...

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

All old rates summed up on one side and GST rate on the other side should be the comparison equation. Only then the GST rate decided for that product will make sense. People are looking at individual product rates in isolation. Convergence of bands will happen over a period of time and that is the u...

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

Too much generalising regarding government servants in the last few posts. Many ideas for implementation without one proper roadmap which is practical and implementable in Indian political economy. Who will buy an Air India without it actually posting profits for a few years? Would you as a private ...

Re: Indian Railways Thread

The above is not an apple-to-apple comparison. Rs. 98,000 crores will be a multi-year investment by the consortium. If you divide this over 5-7 years, it will suddenly start looking very reasonable. Also, the social sector spending is now highly devolved to states after the 14th Finance Commission i...

Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India

Thanks. Not being a mindless Modi-bhakt-drone is indeed clarity of thought. "Modi-bhakt-drone" is the exact language used on social media to disparage Modi supporters by the other side which includes so-called media-"liberals" and the Congressis. Thanks for the clarity of thought.

Re: India-China News and Discussions

^^^ That's because the Chinese changed the base year for the GDP calculation in 2003-04 and the numbers got a significant boost. This was discussed in the T&E forum in detail. The Chinese did cross the trillion dollar mark in 1999-00 and 2 years of 10% growth would take them to around 1.2 trilli...

Re: Indian Economy: News and Discussion (June 8 2008)

Inflation woes: Over 70% consumers in metros trim restaurant spend Over 70% of consumers across Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore say they have cut down on eating out. And over half (52%) say they have even curtailed home-delivery orders. India’s Silicon Valley, Bangalore — home to India’s young, suave a...

As far as my knowledge goes on this issue, the seepage levels into the sub-soil are lower near the banks in KA because the water speed is higher. And desilting of canals has been stopped because TN has objected to it being sub-judice. To achieve the same levels of efficiency of water usage as in TN ...

Because the gradient of the Kaveri flow is steeper in KA than TN (as the water flows down from the Bhagamandala hills in Coorg), the canal network in KA has to be denser to capture this faster flow of water at specific points along its path. And as the dispute has been sub-judice in the tribunal, KA...
