Re: India-China News and Discussion
Modi goes to China But despite the importance of business relationships and investment opportunities for Gujarat this visit is as much about the overall Indo-China relations. The invitation, the feting and extensive coverage of Modi’s visit is China’s way of engaging with what they see as a potenti...

Rajesh, do you know how the road is from avinashi to conoor? afaik this the more direct route from salem to conoor rather than entering coimbatore You need to take the SH80 after Avinashi and hit Mettupalayam via Annur. From Mettupalayam you either choose to go uphill via Conoor or take the Kothagi...

Re: Distorted history- Causes, consequences, remedies
A Saturday With Sarasvati Yet despite our own fondness towards a postulation offering the solace of unbroken civilizational links with the Harappan antiquity some questions do remain. For instance, Danino dwells quite a bit on the defensive structures and massive walls seen in the Harappan cities w...

Re: Internal Security Watch
The Communal Violence bill being drafted by the NAC has eerie national security implications. It strikes at the federal roots of our system and is in many ways a throw back to the days of New Delhi hosting a 'Political Department' that exercised unrivaled power over all the States. This is again an ...

Re: India selects Typhoon and Rafale for MMRCA shortlist
MMRCA: Of leverage and liability It is slightly discomforting that critics of MoD were not seen opposing the MMRCA tender process up until the point when US jets got rejected. If $10bn worth of purchases were to be a political decision the process was not required in the first place and any critici...

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
We need 10,000 of these ... 50 per year is pathetic ... on the other hand, maybe we mass-produce the K-series missiles, longer range, higher speed (Mach 8?), and no dependence on Russia. Perhaps a somewhat smaller edition will serve as a good alternative to Brahmos. Why stop at 10,000? Why not 20,0...

I find this excuse making business a bit nauseating. It would throw TSP into war hysteria but the 'peace keepers' of the world are ...

ADA+HAL appear to be gunning for a 40 aircraft order.
Presently the IAF has signed up for 20, and has agreed to buy another 20. ADA+HAL want IAF to buy another squadron
Me thinks it might happen if IOC + completion of weapons trial can be done quickly.

The Brahmos is quick. From target detection to destruction the entire sequence can be completed in ~1 hour.
You do not take your launchers down to the boundary line either. Chances are the Brahmos units would be deployed in air bases some 100-150kms from the border.

If IAF exercises the option for 10 more airframes that would imply the C-17's are going to replace the Il-76. Excepting the refuellers and Phalcons other Il-76 doing transport duties will be decommissioned. Come to think of it - there are a mere 17 or so Il-76 in transport duties - the C-17 can easi...
