Re: Small Arms Thread

I think an imported product when made in DPSU's will be less prone to quality issues than indigenous products. Simply because in the case of imported stuff, a mature manufacturing process as well as associated machinery will be given by OEM. Also OEM will have laid out best practices to achieve a go...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

As speed increases drag should also increase. So if engine thrust is held constant, increase in drag will cause a decrease in acceleration.

Which is why people using visual markers are reporting longer takeoff distances.

carbon fiber is usually black. Those look like unpainted metal alloy panels (more evident in the larger pic of static side view). Must be the stuff that they changed after it had already been painted with primer.

The basic F414-400 is 98kN. So, INS6 is at least 98kN. EDE has 15% improvement in thrust or increased lifespan at same thrust and reduced SFC (according to wiki), while EPE has 20 % improvement in thrust.

Re: Indian Army: News & Discussion

From personal experiences and some speculation: 1) Till 80's, there was a trend in Punjab (mainly Jatt Sikh families) to have 3 or more sons. Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

@ harbansji
The only factor for selection can be cost as both EF and Rafale passed the technical trials. So saying that Rafale was finally selected over EF because of technical reasons also would IMHO be a slap in the face of the process of bringing two contenders to the next level.

India has been fairly open as far as dealings with Israel are concerned and LUSH and LCA already use 2032 (LCA is a hybrid). Mig29, M2000 already have their upg programs. I don't think Mig21, 27 will get any more updates. That leaves Jag (DARIN III maybe ?). How much could a 2032 cost? That should g...

Re: Indian Military Aviation- Jan 10 2012

To be fair R-77 will be carried closer to the centerline hence easier to accommodate without over-stressing the wings. Stations near the wing tip are very sensitive to weight as they put a bigger strain on the whole wing, specially during hi-g maneuvers. Still R-60 to R-73 requiring wing strengthen...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

LSP6 will be used for high AOA/ High G testing. So a spin recovery chute had to be fitted. It is not related to rest of Mk1 program.

So LSP 7,8 and subsequently the SP's do not have to wait for LSP6.

IIRC, there were also talk of integrating Kaveri on it after the high AOA/G testing is complete.
