Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
Ramana, what you seem to be saying is despite all of the shortcomings the Tejas is still more agile than JF-17. It has a decent radar let down somewhat by the current radome. The radar type should lend itself to easy compatibility with the Derby BVR AAM. It has been cleared for R-73, dumb and smart ...

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
Gentlemen, let me ask a question, fundamentally has anything changed ? Is the Tejas less agile that Vivek showed us ? Is the aircraft less capable or more vulnerable than we thought ? Is the RWR a big zero ? Isn't it the case that the Derby trials and flight testing the gun firing are the issues to ...

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
Well Shiv, given those (I am also the occasional lurker at Paki fora) the Tejas Mk.1 does not seem so bad. It seems that we have CAG reports, Das Reports and IAF "reports" bashing Tejas but none are in any sort of context. How do we explain the negativity of the CAG et al vs the positive v...

No I meant that if the order is only 36, would it make sense for industries to position themselves to meet such an offset requirement ?
Would not an offset plan combined with the Uni report tend to suggest more than 36 might be ordered ?

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
Ramana - right of course. But it might be nice to get some estimates. I think Vivek (in his brilliant analysis) suggested a Tejas Mk.1 STR of 16 deg/sec (as opposed to an ASR of 18 deg/sec). ITR would be interesting as well. Now you say Astra is doing well - and it is - but remember it needs to be i...

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
Karan M - I agree entirely. The problem is that there is no counter narrative. I find that the BVR tests though are taking too long. I also would really like to see a comparison between the JF17 and the Tejas in terms of flight performance and potential. As a matter of fact, can a comprehensive coun...

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
You would think so wouldn't you ? I would like the expert BRF crew to answer a simple question - even with sub-optimal RWR and assuming BVR tests work OK - is the Tejas Mk.1 on par with JF-17 ? If the answer is yes, then IAF has no excuse for ordering only 40. Incidentally, they are now latching on ...

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
The questions to ask are as follows: 1) Is the Tejas Mk.1 able to hold its own in A2A combat against JF-17 in WVR and BVR combat ? 2) Is the RWR on Tejas Mk.1 adequate (I am led to understand there is some excessive EMI) to provide sufficient protection ? 3) Is there any cogent reason why the Tejas ...

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
Do you realise something - other than the assessment done on the Beta Coefficient, (which puts STR at 16 deg/sec I think) - we still do not have a clear idea what the ITR/ STR is for the Tejas. What the naysayers have done is use the lack of data to fill in the gaps with anything they want.

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions
Maitya, I agree with you 100%. The thing is we don't even know how far short of the ASR targets Tejas is falling. Say you demand STR of 18deg/sec and hit 16 deg/sec (very different from 10 deg/sec) - then IAF get real that is pretty fair. Same with ITR - demand 23 deg/sec and say you get 20-21 deg/s...

Just to ask a straightforward question, is the new analysis pointing to a Tejas Mk.1 that is inferior to its potential rival the JF-17 in STR and ITR by such a margin that it is at a severe disadvantage in WVR A2A combat ? The technical debate is one which I can only look on in admiration as to the ...

Sanjay saar, Indian GDP is 3rd in the world in Purchasing power parity terms. This is the only measure in GDP terms that matters. I understand what you are saying and it is true enough. However, I am looking at nominal GDP. IIRC we should be at around US$2.2trn nominal as of end March 2015. That should already exceed Brazil shouldn't it ? If growth is 6%+, then by end March 2016, Britain and possibly France could be surpassed....
