Karnataka home minister says it was election time and there was a huge crowd at the BJP office.

TV reports says that the bomb was placed on a stolen Yamaha bike.

Hospital sources say all the 16 injured are out of danger, including the two who were said to be critically injured.

Tjhe Karnataka DG says none of the vehicles were CNG and therefore the earlier possibility that it was a LPG kit blast has been firmly ruled out.

The BJP says they were the targets of the terror attack.
13:21 Bangalore blast: Timer device, IED may have been used: Rediff.com's Vicky Nanjappa reports that preliminary investigations into the Bangalore blasts points towards the use of a timer device. The police have not ruled out the use of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which could have been used in the bomb blast.


Although a lot of the investigation is based on theory at the moment, the police say that taking into consideration the sheer intensity of the blast, it becomes evident that it was assembled by a professional and aimed at causing a huge impact.


The police have taken the hard disk from the CCTV atop of the BJP office, that is believed to be the target. The BJP office is barely 100 metres from the blast site. Traffic cameras as well which are being examined the police also add.

Vicky Nanjappa alluded to this in his Jignasa talk in BLR a few weeks ago. Additionally also mentioned that Kerala IM and sleeper cell activities are just getting to boil now, so it will be a while before it goes operational (from the perspective of the state police inputs). Looks like that estimate was woefully inaccurate.

You penned my thoughts. Yesterday, IB sent alerts to city commissioners to be vigilant. If this is there being "Vigilant", Iam dumbstruck.

We do not know what message IB sent out. It may be a vague information that cities may be a targetted. Secondly, I dont think Bangalore Police has the men and resources to scrutinise each and every vehicle. This being the BJP party office (and elections around the corner) it would be a herculean task to check each and every park vehicles. There was also an IPL match which happened yesterday, and the police had another human intensive task of bandobust at the Stadium. Perhaps with IB warning the police may have put in more efforts here (because casualties may be certainly high, if a blast happens at the cricket venue).

Have to agree with Sachin sir here, partly. Bangalore is huge and its not possible to keep check on every corner. That said, pics in news reports show a damaged police van, indicating that police were already deployed near the office. Eight of the fourteen injured are policemen. They should have scrutinised the surroundings upon being alerted. Hope they are more careful from now on and hope the injured recover soon.

Terrorism is in its last phases as Congress government is expected to come back to power in Karnataka. People needs patience for just another month.

In Bangalore what happens is that if the authorities feel that a place require additional security, a City Armed Reserve posse is posted there. They generally have mini-buses, and this vehicle gets parked close to the venue. Most of the police men would be sitting inside. I feel this arrangement works if the police is expecting people gather up at short notice and start rioting. In this case these people could jump out of the vehicles and charge at them. Where as in the bomb blast, these folks could not have done nothing. It was a party office and folks come in all forms of vehicles, and with this notion these police men would have just ignored it. This was not really a place where they cannot expect vehicles not to come in; nor did they find the vehicle parked there for a very long time.

Came back to say: As far as I know Bangalore Police had taken extra efforts to give protection to the IPL Match at Bangalore. Not even a single untoward incident has happened there. So it may be a possibility that the police interpreted the general alert to coincide with the IPL and focussed there. And the police cannot give the same protection to every single important building 24/7/365. The terrorist has the luxury of deciding a target even at the very last moment.

I agree with you and sachin sir. Protecting big city like Bangalore is challenging. But there has to be some efforts atleast to stop it, the police were clueless initially. First it was reported as "cylinder blast", later changed it to terrorist attack.

In earlier attacks police chiefs would claim there wasn't prior intelligence to thwart the attack. This attack has happened after general alert and heavy police presence.

Its like terrorists are sending out a message "we can attack wherever we want, nobody can do anything about it"

3 things has to happen
1) Police reforms
2) Deter Political interference in investigation (minority appeasement)
3) Media melodrama (portraying minorities as victims)

Else, we will face more and more audacious attacks in the future.

all these memos are like your roadside astrologer saying 'something good will happen to you today'...it is of no use without specifics. vast majority of our people won't comply with a lockdown and tight security checks based on vague threats, so the cops won't organize that.

Sorry for the blast in Bangalore one of my favorite cities.
Hope they catch the perpetrator(s) and encounter them.
Also hope NIA doesn't bury this case also just as they did the Hyderabad Blasts in February.


In future IB should give a public broadcast of their notifications as they seem to be in-effective in every instance of bomb blast. Give the citizens a chace to protect themselves as the pIB cohort of police forces are unable to protect the citizens.


Also future govts should consider winding up IB as its a no use agency. Just draws govt paycheck and bad mouth the public after retirement. Eg BRAWman.

So far not one bomb blast or terror attack has been prevented or disrupted.

ramana Bangalore unfortunately has had no governance for the last 4-5 years. Anything constructive or progressive has been ignored or wound up. Anything that makes money for netas has been initiated with gusto. Today I discovered that our chief minister is one Jagadish Shettar - the CM has changed so many times that I could not remember. Maybe he will have changed by the time I make this post. Assembly elections next month. This thread will still be there and I will say up front that I expect a BJP washout - they have been worse than the most corrupt Congress government under Bangarappa and Dharam Singh. I voted BJP last time. I would like to see a Congress washout too.

No words can console the victims. I just hope one day, the governments do a better job of protecting people.
