^^Actually he is only stating the reality from their perspective. We will pursue our interests, they will pursue theirs. Sometimes it will converge, sometimes it will not. It is for them to judge, whether it is better to have us as a co-operative and friendly power with their interests also reckoned, or one which is more stand-offish and reluctant because they do not take our interests into account too. Successive Indian governments have shown a growing inclination for the former, but it is for the US-Australia-Japan trio to show their preference for the same. This is not a one way street; if anything, the loss of that sort of power is what White is mourning for in a rather resigned sort of way.

^Australia has a serious difference of opinion with India's power projection in the Indian Ocean. We should not forget that.

Three Australian ships arrive in Visakhapatnam for naval exercise - The Hindu
After a decade of planning, the first bilateral maritime exercise between Australia and India is all set to begin here on Saturday. It is now planned to be a biennial event. The exercise will strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries as envisaged in the Framework for Security Cooperation announced by the Australian and Indian Prime Ministers in 2014.

Three Royal Australian Navy ships — fleet tanker HMAS Sirius, Anzac class frigate HMAS Arunta, and Collins class submarine HMAS Sheean — docked at the Visakhapatnam Port on Friday to participate in the week-long AUSINDEX.

The Indian Navy would be represented by stealth frigate INS Shivalik, guided missile destroyer INS Ranvijay, and fleet tanker INS Shakti.

In addition, one Royal Australian Air Force P3C Orion surveillance aircraft and Indian Navy’s P8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft will operate from Chennai during the exercise.

The exercise will include tabletop exercises, scenarios and practical demonstrations ashore, and a sea phase.

“At sea, surface and anti-submarine warfare and coordinated anti-submarine exercises will be conducted,” Australia’s Head of Navy Capability Rear Admiral Jonathan Mead told the media at the Mahatma Gandhi Docks where the three Australian ships were berthed.

The exercise is aimed at strengthening professional interaction, both in harbour and at sea, and would be a start for attaining interoperability between the two Navies.

The AUSINDEX would be a biennial event and would further the ability to undertake regional joint and/or combined operations such as Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, a press statement from both Australian and Indian Navies said.

Visakhapatnam coast was selected in view of its importance on the Eastern Seaboard and also taking into view the economics and logistics involved, Rear Admiral Mead said. “The Australian ships have not been exposed to the conditions of Bay of Bengal and the exercise would be a learning experience,” Rear Admiral Mead said.
In June 2013, Indian defence minister A.K. Antony’s visit to Canberra (after visiting Singapore and before going to Thailand) resulted in agreeing on six points to promote bilateral defence cooperation. They agreed on regular meetings between defence minister of the two countries, regular exchanges between defence establishments and armed forces, bilateral naval exchanges leading to an exercise in c. 2015, to cooperate in various for a and meetings in Asia-Pacific including EAS, ARF etc, enhance IOR cooperation through IONS and IOR-ARC and sixthly, to share knowledge and experience through each other’s military training institutes.

He is stating the obvious.

Look at Russia as an example and her behavior WRT India and UNSC seat. Russia said the right things, but ultimately is protecting her own turf on the UNSC.

Consider these relationships as a gigantic, ever changing Venn diagram. And you should sleep well.

We are fairly big boys now. Muscles and shite are showing. We must not whine if the other big boys take that into account. Acknowledge it as a sign of regard. Play the game, but don't act as if you have more power than you actually do, i.e as if what you convinced yourself by posing in front of the mirror in the morning is actually true. On the other hand do look in the mirror once in a while. We will be alright. There are fairly steady hands at the helm, and they are steadier now.

^ Just another racist jerk at OZ premier ship.

Will not mean much., Aus will talk about global warming while contributing one of the most GHGs per capita. They will try to talk about "capping" India's GHG and try to restrict uranium sales. Expect no major policy change., from the Howard era.

Basically, Aus getting as much as 5 PMs in 8 years., a new word called "democratic coup" needs to be invented.

They can as well get Pauline Hanson and install her as PM., then all the pretenses need not be done.

Totally agree. In fact., India should start an "Aboriginal and Torres strait Commission" and this should be the agenda of item everytime a PM from Aus shows up.

All visitors from Aus to India should be made to pay to the above commission (OCI/PIO/Indians exempted of course).

India should monitor all the HDI progress of the aborigines. Including how much representation they have in the parliament and have a set path for Australia to return an aborigine as PM of Australia.

Australia clears way for Adani's $7 bln coal and rail project
The Australian government on Thursday reissued an environmental permit for construction of one of the world's biggest coal mines to Adani Enterprises (ADEL.NS), after clearing concerns about two rare outback species.

The decision by Environment Minister Greg Hunt removes one hurdle for Adani to proceed with the stalled A$10 billion ($7 billion) project in the undeveloped Galilee Basin that could generate billions of dollars in export revenue for Australia.

Former ADF recruits tell royal commission of sexual abuse, intimidation at WA naval base
PM By Thomas Oriti, staff
Updated Wed Jun 22 00:33:02 EST 2016

The child abuse royal commission has heard disturbing evidence that junior defence recruits were molested for years as part of cruel "initiation" rituals.

During the first day of a public hearing into the Australian Defence Force, survivors gave evidence that they were warned not to report the abuse.

Abuse at the ADF training facilities was systemic and spanned decades, the commission heard.

The latest royal commission case study is focusing on HMAS Leeuwin from 1960 to 1980, the Army Apprentice School Balcombe in the period 1970 to 1980 and ADF Cadets since 2000.

A witness known as CJA, a survivor of child sexual abuse, was the first to give evidence at the inquiry, but did so through his solicitor.

The hearing was told he was subjected to vicious assaults by other recruits at HMAS Leeuwin in Western Australia in 1967, but was warned by the navy chaplain not to "rat" on the perpetrators.

He said he escaped from the base, and was punished again when he was returned.

"At night I was physically and sexually abused multiple times by the navy police," he said through his solicitor.

"The sexual abuse consisted of oral sex, masturbation and buggery.

"I felt I had no choice but to surrender to this abuse."

CJA said a former naval recruit told of how he was threatened by another officer if he revealed he had been raped and repeatedly sexually abused.

The inquiry also heard he was threatened about divulging the abuse when giving evidence at a Sydney inquiry in 1971.

"The shore patrolmen said to me words to the effect: 'If you say anything about what happened at Leeuwin, other than it being just boys being boys, you're going to pay a very dear price'," CJA said.

"'We know where you are now and we have people at the top in all services'."

Former sailor Glen Greaves told the inquiry a senior officer accused him of whinging and told him to "harden up" when he tried to report the attacks.

"They dragged me to the urinal and removed toilet paper from my mouth. They said 'lick the urinal or we'll smash your head into it'," Mr Greaves said.

"I was terrified, I licked the urinal. They then threw me back onto the bathroom floor.

"They told me if I reported the incident to anyone they would come back for me."

Another former recruit, Graeme Frazer, started at HMAS Leeuwin at the age of 16 and said his dignity was stripped by senior recruits who called him "fairy".

"They stripped me, felt me down and then applied boot polish with a hard bristle brush, it was extremely painful," he said.

"I made my first complaint and after I was made to run the gauntlet and left unconscious."

Outside the royal commission, Mr Frazer said it was "a symbolic day that marks the end of 49 years of torment".

"Today will be tough, but I hope that I and other people like me will be free to make a new start and move forward into a new life."
Abuse within ADF described as 'widespread'

Of the 111 people to come forward to the royal commission, 50 were about child sexual abuse at HMAS Leeuwin or the Balcombe Army Apprentice School in Victoria.

Twenty-six were about child sexual abuse within the ADF Cadets.

The royal commission had also been contacted by more than 30 people about allegations of child sexual abuse that occurred at other ADF establishments within each service, including at HMAS Cerberus, the Australian Defence Force Academy, Puckapunyal army base and the Royal Australian Air Force base in Wagga Wagga.

The hearing was told of how children were often abused as part of initiation practices, or what counsel assisting Angus Stewart described as ritualised practices of b.astardisation designed to "break in" a new recruit.

Mr Stewart delivered his opening address and explained why the hearing would focus on the two ADF sites, saying in part that the decision was made because of the number of people who had come forward.

"The similar nature and extent of abuse reported to have occurred at the Leeuwin and Balcombe over a similar period of time, despite those establishments being in different services and opposite sides of the country," he said.
Current ADF cadet program under scrutiny

The royal commission will not be focused entirely on historical allegations of abuse.

It also plans to investigate the current ADF cadet program, which has more than 25,000 active ADF cadet members in 544 cadet units across Australia, and has played a significant role in encouraging children to pursue a career in the force.

The royal commission requested the ADF to provide records of all incidents of abuse in the cadet program from January 2001.

The defence had recorded a total of 154 allegations since that period; 51 of those involved an adult instructor and the remaining cases involved sexual abuse perpetrated by other cadets.

Mr Stewart told the hearing that some cadets identified the alleged perpetrators as ADF members, saying intimate relationships between adult instructors and cadets have continued to occur.

The defence has been working on a central policy document called the Youth Policy Manual, intended to be a single reference point for youth defence engagement.
White Pakis were raping teenage recruits in ADF schools and then at their bases since 40 years.
Australian Buggery Defence Force (ABDF) will be a more apt name for this uniformed bunch.

"First Aussie uranium shipment to India flagged for next year"
In a move that will strengthen ties between India and Australia, the first shipment of Australian uranium is reportedly due to arrive in India next year to feed the reactors of the power-hungry nation.

India is in negotiations with Australian suppliers to provide 1500 tonnes of uranium over five years and it is expected the first shipment of about 250 tonnes will arrive in eight months, the secretary of India’s Department of Atomic energy, Sekhar Basu, told Bloomberg.

He said India was in negotiations with at least three Australian companies and “how much we import will ultimately depend on price”.

Let Indian military train in northern Australia, leading defence scholar says
Australia should give the Indian military access to Darwin and key training ranges in the far north as part of a deepening of defence ties to counterbalance the rise of China, a leading think-tank says. The report by the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney also says Australia should let India use its military airfield on the Cocos Islands for maritime surveillance and reconnaissance.Author David Brewster, an expert on South Asian security at the Australian National University, said it was vital that Australia was part of the rapid deepening of the defence relationship between the US and India, which he said was "streaking ahead"."The US-India strategic relationship is driven by several imperatives, the most immediate being the perceived threat presented by China to the regional order," the report states.Washington and New Delhi are due to sign in coming days a landmark deal giving one another access to their own military facilities, such as air bases and naval ports."This really opens the way for an Australian-Indian equivalent," Dr Brewster told Fairfax Media.

Comment appended to the article.Of course we should help to train the Indians. A much better idea than our plan to train the Chinese speaking Trojan Horse Singaporeans.

I suppose the IN can learn from the RAN how to shanghai leaky refugee boats to Nauru. Perhaps Indians can learn from Australians how to drive aircraft carriers and nuclear subs.

How does it help if the Indian forces get to train in Northern Australia? I mean what does the terrain there offer, which we lack and so training there would be useful for our forces' operational readiness on PRC and Baki borders?

Are they talking about Join Military exercises?

Are you saying that they want the good old days of the British Empire to return, when Indian soldiers protected Australia (& British Asia) and gave up their lives in large numbers at the whim of the British? That was the time when Australia was kept snow white, no dirty Asian allowed in, thank you. Can they be so stupid to think that is possible? Yes, they can.

Gautam, should we leave Australia to be dominated by CCP? It has vast tracts of fertile land, minerals including rare earth minerals and geostratigic locations. As an Australian resident, I am seeing first hand how much China has made inroads in the strategic sphere. This is a land which Indics need to bring under its sphere asap. If posting Indian army makes it easy, we should all for it. In history we bled for English, should we not be ready to bleed for Indic interest today? We are so inward looking that we have conceded our own backyard for others to exploit.

By the way no dirty asians were allowed in many countries including USA until mid 60s. Australia had and have many racial integration problems but singling it out is not correct in my view. The way Indian community is growing in Australia, in few short years time we will be sizeable affluent ethnic group, if not already. We need to immigrate more and bring it under the Indic influence. This land belongs to our forefathers who traveled from Andhra coast all the way to this continent 40000 yrs back. Now we need to make it ours again.

Vish Mulayji,
India should leave Australia to stew in its own juice, till it changes its tune. India is no ones Munna, least of all Australia's. If Australia does not change its tune? Then we have to leave it to its fate. But it will not come to that. Because, ultimately Australia will do what USA wants. Before it was UK, now it is USA.

You expect Australia to change its tune by we doing nothing? what exactly you suggest when you say until it changes its tune? serious question, as i am not clear what is in bilateral interest which is not done by Australia. Uranium supply started, FTA in an advanced stage of negotiations, immigration in full swing, many Indian companies allowed to mine resources (barring few exceptions for the environmental clearance), desperately asked for quadrilateral maritime engagement with US and Japan (India dithered). As far as being munna of chacha, why should Aussie leave nuclear umbrella protection chacha provides when the dragon is breathing fire at its shore? Is there any other country which can provide that kind of security in next 25 years? Is India in any position to protect Aussie ass from fire? why can't we be pragmatic and extract what is required for our future security? OR should we just leave it for others to shape how we operate in our backyard? Should we be always reactive and not once proactive?

Chetak that's very myopic view for a country which everyone is suggesting is going to be next bread bowl of Asia. Largest wheat producers in Australia is a Grewal. Largest banana and blueberry producers are Sikhs. Many of the UK educated medicos are relocating to Australia and doing great. Next big investment will be farm and livestock. We need to think how to feed rapidly prospering population who will need quality calories which we can not produce locally. China is leasing huge land tracts here for farming and i have yet to see any Indian govt initiative to take advantage of this Australian policy. As far as racism is concern, i faced more racism in USA than I have faced here in last 8 years. there is racism no doubt but Indian MSM has blown it out of proportion.

India would certainly be able to protect the Aussies from China if need be .. policies are made looking ahead . in a decade IN would certainly be capable of force projection much like what the US does now as well as the economic heft to provide counter balance to China .. those assertions for the Indian army being granted operational access were not made ad hoc .. rather a very pragmatic view .. time to wake up

All what you say can be done on cash and carry. Get the produce and leave the racism.

This aussie population has arisen out of low level british and other white trash that the british themselves could not handle. They have a historical racist mindset that is subtly being carried through in all their policies and dealings. They have now started appointing coolies in their corps diplomatic so that we are suitable fooled or mollified.

keep India's national interest at the top of the agenda and deal with every other country from that perspective. All of them do the very same when they deal with us anyway.

The aussies know that they will never catch up with us in many fields and the freedom of our foreign policy is not something that they have ever enjoyed or will ever enjoy. The poverty in India will remain for some time to come. That is not any reason for us to suck up to the aussies.

No military involvement of any sort with anyone for any reason.

I take a dim view of the Australian publishing the scorpene papers. Press freedom be damned, it is not the action of a friendly nation.

If this what we are to expect from them, we certainly don't need them.

Chetakji too much generalization. The Anglican Australian population is now less than 50% of total population. There are many other nationalities and sub-nationalities in present day Australia. If thinking about our future needs and adjusting foreign policy accordingly is sucking, then i am all for sucking. As far as the scorpene papers, let me ask this who is at fault? the publishers who published it or the source of the leak? Agreed that it could have been handled behind the closed door, but when a scoop of such gigantic proportion is given, when your own country is going to pay upwards of 50 billions of AUD for submarines from the same company, i think the Australian handled it much better than say MSM in India. As far as racism is concern, its up to you to decide whether to believe someone who lives here and observes this society up close or the hysterical MSM in India. I am of opinion that rather than having a condescending approach, its better to have a more pragmatic view which Modiji indicated during his visit. JM2C.
