Close ties with Maldives will help India curb terror
Intelligence Bureau sources told rediff.com that India [ Images ] cannot afford any slip in its Maldives policy, since the approach of the Lashkar is 'extremely aggressive' and 'we need to keep a constant vigil in order to keep them at bay.'

The Lashkar now has nearly 1,000 of its operatives active in the Maldives, say IB sources. And the worrying factor for India is that at least 60 per cent of them are Indian nationals.

Closer ties with the Maldives will ensure the extradition process of these people would be easy, so that India can curb the Lashkar operations there.
600 IMs ( 60% of 1000 as per the article ) are in Maldives and plotting anti-India activities?

I couldn't find any discussions on what is going on in Maharashtra these days. It seems that the chacha-bhatija have gone absolutely berserk in wooing the marathi manoos :(( Ambani, Tendulkar, Shahrukh, Chidambaram, it seems SS will attack anyone they get their hands on. I hope the BJP breaks their alliance with these maniacs. What could have been a huge opportunity to win points for the right wing has gone down the drain with SS's handling of Shahrukh's drama. They have succeeded in victimizing him & with the publicity (and the usual media support with the DDM frothing at the mouth, "how dare you insult Shaaarooook!!") that this chap is getting, I think he'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

There was an allegation that Kerala Police either did not record the communication, or discreetly destroyed the tapes. But now looks like the big brother IB has another copy of their own . And IB would be sharing this with NIA.
I suspect there are IB moles inside KP ranks. It is a good precaution given the expertise of Kerala Police in disappearing crucial evidence to sabotage investigations, especially when the local party in power is involved.

Digvijay Singh back to his old ways .

Digvijay denies calling Batla House encounter fake
Without taking the names of the two alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives killed in the encounter, Atif and Chhota Sajid, natives of Sanjarpur town in Azamgarh, Singh on Wednesday had told reporters, "I have seen the photographs of one of the boys killed in the encounter... The photo shows a bullet pierced his head... It should be noted that normally in encounters, one is not shot in the head."

Coming out in his self-defence, Singh on Thursday said: "I have only said that bullet injury in head not appear normal in encounters," quickly adding, "As I have not conducted any inquiry, I am no one to tell about the encounter."

What utter poppycock!

Maybe this cutlet has some geneva convention info that says that terrorists will not be shot in the head?

How can he say what will happen in the heat of a life and death situation?

What would the same gentleman have said if the terrorist had been shot in the ass?

No sir...How can you not see the long term benefit of his statement?...Secularism is essentially gov regulation of relations between religious groups. In this case, the Muslim community of Azamgarh was coming under increasing pressure from the media and ordinary folk. Therefore, we had to relieve them of this pressure so that they could stand on equal footing with their Hindu brothers. This will ultimately result in less communal violence b/c they will not harbor feelings of alienation and neglect by the majority which is obviously the number 1 cause of terrorism in India. So you see, this is actually "Chanakyan thinking" at its very best!

 Why do some people keep repeating this? Most top terrorist masterminds were pampered by the majority. Remember the SIMI/IM guy who earned lakhs in monthly salary and yet was part of a criminal conspiracy to wage war against the nation. Surely a guy getting paid huge amounts of money by the majority community cant flash the neglect card to justify his acts. Neither can communal violence be used to justify terrorism, if this was true then kashmiri hindus who are most affected by communal violence would be running numerous terrorist organisations and launching numerous vicious attacks against the indian state for failing to come to their rescue, which is not happening which means communal violence card to fails in justifying terrorism.
In the meantime who may want to read this. There is neither communal violence or neglect in UK but planned terrorist attacks against UK are rising. Wonder why? Is there any other card left to justify this?

^^ Its in public domain, being reported in Times Now. One injured jawan has been airlifted to Udhampur for treatment. Pray for his good health.

One of the militants have been elusive since 2001 and was instrumental to the terror network in the area. Its being reported as a massive success.

IM had plans to blow up IITs, raise a youth brigade
Lucknow - The Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative arrested by the UP's anti-terrorist squad (ATS) on Monday from Azamgarh has revealed that they had plans to blow up India's premier institutes like IITs and raise IM's youth brigade.

To ensure maximum damage, the plan was to time the strikes around the time when students visit the technical colleges for counseling, when the branch in which a student wishes to specialize in is allotted to them.

Shahzad, (21), now in ATS custody, is wanted for serial blasts in Delhi's Karol Bagh, Greater Kailash, Tilak Marg and Connaught Place as well as the controversial Batla House encounter that took place on September 19, 2008. Two IM operatives and a decorated Delhi police officer were killed in the encounter.

A Delhi police team has air dashed to Lucknow to interrogate one of their most wanted accused. The Delhi police had declared a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his arrest. A resident of Khalispur village under Bilariaganj police station he was living at Rahmani Manzil, Qureshia school campus of Azamgarh, UP. UP ATS chief Brijlal said Shahzad revealed that they he was tipped to head the IM's youth brigade and had plans to carry out strikes in Indore and had planted bombs at the India Gate too.

The recruitment for the youth brigade had already begun and Shahzad allegedly confessed before the ATS officials that he had started sending youths through sea route overseas for training. Shahzad said Atif Amin, the IM operative killed in the Batla House encounter was the king pin who had assigned him the task of raising fully trained youth outfit capable of carrying out strikes all over the country. Barring a 10-second photo opportunity that the ATS allowed camerapersons, the media was not allowed to interact with the alleged terrorist.

Shahzad was produced in the court on Tuesday. The Delhi police is expected to apply for the transit remand to take the accused to Delhi for further interrogation. Police said efforts were being made to probe his Iraq-connection among other things.

Minority groups end silence on Simi ban
Several Muslim groups have come together to question for the first time the ban on Simi, the student group blamed by the government for involvement in anti-national activities in the country.

The initiative has come three days before the ban on the Students’ Islamic Movement of India expires on February 7.
...
...
“We admit that Simi had an element of fanaticism in it,” said Milli Council’s Zafarul Khan. “But that does not make it a terrorist group. If fanaticism is a criterion, then organisations like the RSS and the Bajrang Dal, should have been banned.”

The minority groups have submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister and the home minister, urging them to lift the ban. They also plan to meet Sonia Gandhi, hoping that the “Congress’s new-found love for minorities” will encourage her to take a favourable stand.

Ex-MLA gave me shelter: Delhi bomber
In a shocking disclosure, arrested Indian Mujahideen terrorist Shahzad Alam has revealed to the police that he was provided shelter and financial help by a former Delhi MLA after he escaped from the Batla House shootout on September 19, 2008. According to sources in Delhi Police crime branch, Shahzad has also claimed that a Bihar-based former junior minister and a prominent Mumbai politician helped him evade arrest.
...
...
Shahzad has reportedly told the police that when the firing began at L-18 Batla House, he and Junaid were in another room. He then went to the balcony and saw policemen. While the gunbattle raged on near the front door, the duo fled through the second exit. They ran down the same stairs used by the police team to come up, apparently shouting that they were residents. In the ongoing melee outside the building, they were able to stage a getaway. They then took an auto-rickshaw to Shaheen Bagh where they were sheltered by the former MLA, now based in Noida.

Since the two were short of money, the ex-MLA allegedly provided the cash that helped them board a train for Aligarh.

Indian handler behind 26/11 attacks: Chidambaram
The ten Pakistani terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008 could have been guided by an Indian handler whose true identity was yet to be ascertained, home minister P Chidambaram has said.

"When we say he could be an Indian, he could be somebody who acquired Indian characteristics. He could have been infiltrated into India and lived here long enough to acquire an Indian accent, familiarity with Indian Hindi words or he could be somebody who exfiltrated from India to Pakistan and was adopted by the militants there," Chidambaram said.

"We know him by Abu Jindal that something we have known for many many months now... but he is not Abu Jindal. That is not his real name. We cannot put a finger who he is, unless we get a voice sample. And they won't give us voice sample.

Batla controversy

More details with video and transcript of the interview. In the end the justification
It is the responsibility of the majority community in this country to give a sense of confidence and belonging to the minorities, otherwise you'll have a problem on your hands. If educated engineering, MBA graduates feel that they are being discriminated against and if they lose confidence in the establishment and parliamentary democracy and judiciary of this country, you will have a problem on your hands.
And is he promoting the confidence in the judiciary, and establishment by questioning NHRC etc. and encouraging the attitude that if you 'feel' discriminated or are not satisfied with the ruling from the court, there are extra judicial ways of redressing your grievances?

Coastal Security group tests aerostat balloons with cameras
Image
Excerpts
The helium-filled balloon could be floated in the sky at a distance of 500 feet to 1000 feet. It could be operated through a boat. The policemen could get live pictures of objects. They could view the objects in a close angle too.

The equipment manufactured by a Bangalore-based company was demonstrated in different areas, including a few islands of Gulf of Mannar.

Fair Enough!

Since it is internal security thread we can take this a bit futher

Why didn't Maharashtra government provide security to the taxi drivers to the same extent it is providing security to Rahul Gandhi? Preventive custody, searching the residences of SS activists etc have been done in the run up to Rahul's visit.
Why doesn't the government try the pro pakistani Hurriyat leaders for Treason which they do far more openly than Raj ( hints at)?

Calcutta High Court upholds death sentence on the Kolkatta US Embassy attackers
The Calcutta High Court on Friday upheld the death sentence to Aftab Ansari and Jamiluddin Nasir in the American Centre attack case.

Six policemen were killed in the attack in front of the American Centre here on January 22, 2002.
It will then go to the SC, then clemency petitions will be filed if the SC also upholds death sentence. That will be the end of this case as they will go to position no 51 and 52 in the ever-growing queue that the Home Ministry maintains.

There is no way in hell that this "uber-secular" GoI will ever send two innocent members of the traumatized minority community to the gallows, esp when they have only expressed "mild displeasure" against the great Satan.

Meanwhile, some members of the non-hintoootva wadi brigade show their true secularism:

Delhi cops probing 'role' of politicians who helped IM terrorist flee
Suspected Indian Mujahideen [ Images ] terrorist Shahzad has reportedly named at least three politicians, including a former member of the Legislative Assembly from Azamgarh, claiming they helped him flee from Delhi [ Images ] after the Batla House shootout two years ago, police sources said in New Delhi on Frday.

Shahzad, who was arrested in February by Uttar Pradesh [ Images ] Police's Anti-Terror Squad, is said to have named a former MLA, a local leader believed to be a councillor and another leader whose help he took to flee from the national capital, the sources said. The 21-year-old accused, allegedly involved in the 2008 Delhi serial blasts and Batla encounter, claimed he went to the former MLA's residence in Shaheenbagh after he fled from the encounter site on September 19, 2008, the sources said.
Seeing the weird theories about this encounter being bandied about, i have no doubt that had M.C.Sharma not laid down his life, the entire raiding party of the Special cell would have been in jail on charges of a fake encounter   ( like the Gujarat police honchos are being harassed for killing a anti-national scum).

Its just that the death of the poor inspector ensured that most of the media and junta believe the encounter to be genuine. Of course, had a BJP govt been in power, we all know what perception would have been created. This is the situation our country has come to.

Kolkatta HC upholds Death Sentence
I wanted to highlight a particular point.
The Sessions Court had convicted seven persons and had awarded death sentence to all, observing it as the “rarest of rare case.”
Out of the seven, whom the Learned Judge of the Sessions Court found guilty and awarded death sentence in the 'rarest-of-rare case', two have been now set free and three others have been commuted of their death sentence by the Learned Judge of the Kolkatta High Court. A similar thing happened in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case as well. When it was all over, only a fraction of those originally given death sentences was confirmed of that sentence. Even those are not being executed and at least one of them is about to be released. In the Kolkatta case also, Aftab Ansari and his associate Jamil have a bright chance of their death sentence being reduced to life sentence if they go in appeal. Later there is every likelihood that they will be released under one pretext or another from jail such as on Jyoti Basu's Birthday (in Tamil Nadu, prisoners are regularly released on Anna's birthday) or completing 10 years of meritorious confinement etc.

One can understand if one or two cases end up where the higher court reduces the award of capital punishment for waging war against India. Why should, in every case, a significant number of the terrorists get reduced quantum of punishment when they appeal to a higher court ? This can happen only because of a few things: the laws are weak and loopholes are exploited (the question is why they are exploited only in higher courts), the interpretation of laws is grossly different between the lower and higher courts etc. If these are true, these are causes of grave concern for the internal security of our country.

I am reminded of the situation in Pakistani courts for cases involving Blasphemy. The lower court always awards death sentence to the blasphemers for fear of retribution otherwise from the Faithful who swarm the court in a threatening manner. The Higher Courts have to redeem the situation.

Some additional clues ... who is an RJD ex-MLA who lives in Noida?
Cops verifying Batla escapee claim about Cong, RJD leaders

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police was on Friday verifying arrested Indian Mujahideen terror suspect Shahzad Alam's disclosure that a RJD MLA, a Congress leader and Mumbai-based politico helped him after he escaped from the Jamia Nagar area during the Batla House encounter.

Shahzad’s claims were made during the course of his interrogation by the Delhi Police. Wary of its fallout, cops were trying to cross-check his claims.

According to Shahzad, after escaping from Batla House, he found refuge in a RJD MLA's house in Noida. With the police and intelligence agencies hot on his heels, he claimed he was subsequently provided shelter and financial help by a Congress leader from Bihar and a Mumbai-based politician.

Facing questions on party general secretary Digvijay Singh’s visit to Azamgarh to meet families of IM activists killed during the Batla House shootout, the claim that one of its leaders had helped one of the accused may come as a blow to Congress. The episode could damage the ruling party’s credentials on taking terrorists head-on.

Shahzad, who was arrested in Azamgarh by the Uttar Pradesh ATS, and handed over to the Delhi Police on Monday was brought to the Capital on Tuesday. Since then, he has been subjected to sustained interrogation by sleuths belonging to the Delhi Police and IB.

He recounted how he and Ariz, aka Junaid, planned their escape from the Batla House in the middle of the shootout. The duo were in another room when the firing commenced at L-18 Batla House. They used the same staircase to flee from the venue which had been minutes earlier been used by the police personnel to go up. All this while, they kept yelling that were innocent residents.

After executing their escape plan, they hired an autorickshaw to Noida, where they were given refuge by a RJD legislator. They then left for Azamgarh, via Aligarh and Lucknow, according to Shahzad.
