Texas boy, 3, shoots himself in face with grandfather’s gun

A Texas toddler is in critical condition after shooting himself with his grandfather’s gun on Sunday, according to reports.

The 3-year-old boy shot himself in the face around 4 p.m. when his grandparents left him alone in a bedroom for his afternoon nap in Spring, roughly 25 miles north of Houston, officials in the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s office told KTRK-TV.

The gun was in the room where the boy was supposed to be sleeping, either on or inside of the nightstand, Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ben Beall told the TV station. Local constables responded to the scene on Puget Lane and later called their county counterparts to conduct the investigation.

Another relaxed weekend in Chicago, USA.
Even with a 30% increase in the number of police on the streets over the holiday weekend, seven people were killed between Friday morning and Sunday afternoon, the superintendent said.

Another 40 people were wounded in weekend shootings, McCarthy said.
And since Friday morning, Chicago police have recovered one illegal gun per hour across the city, McCarthy said. "We must stem the flow of guns into the city," he said.
This year's statistics may sound staggering, but compared with last year, the number of violent incidents is actually down. For the same period in 2014, there were 64 shootings, 69 nonfatal victims in those incidents and 15 slayings.

To rename or not? Institutions reconsider honors for racists

The massacre at a predominantly black South Carolina church has institutions from Alaska to Connecticut evaluating whether they should continue enshrining the names of historical figures linked to slavery and the Confederacy.

...

A petition is calling for Yale University in Connecticut to change the name of its residential Calhoun College, which honors 1804 alumnus John C. Calhoun, a prominent advocate of the slave plantation system who became a vice president and U.S. senator from South Carolina. The petition says the name, in place since the 1930s, represents "an indifference to centuries of pain and suffering among the black population."

...

Other campaigns around the country include efforts to change the names of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis and New York City's General Lee Avenue in Brooklyn, named after Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. In Helena, Montana, officials will meet Wednesday to discuss whether anything should be done with a downtown memorial to fallen Confederate soldiers. The foundation was built in 1916 by the Daughters of the Confederacy.

...

For some, changing the name would be too easy an answer.

Temple University professor Christopher Rabb, a black 1992 Yale graduate who lived in Calhoun College when it still had a stained glass window depicting Calhoun standing over an enslaved black man, said he would rather see a deeper reckoning with issues of race and the role of white supremacists in building American institutions, such as Yale and other schools.

"Removing a name, removing a symbol is easy and we can say, 'problem solved,'" Rabb said. "But we're dealing with a symbol and we're not dealing with the root cause. And the root cause is systemic racism."

He contends that if Yale was "serious about addressing institutional racism and white supremacy," it would make sure every student knows about that part of the school's history.

"Yale has the ability to transform itself, but it first has to be honest about its roots, just like America has to be honest about its roots," Rabb said. Yale has not commented on the matter beyond its recent statement, but in 2001, in response to a report by several doctoral candidates about Yale and slavery, the school noted that "few, if any institutions or individuals from the period before Emancipation remained untainted by slavery."

More about the genius who tried to shoot firework from the top of his head (again, we witness evolution at work here, extinction of the dumbest, this is the second such case (Drunk man, 49, killed after accidentally shooting himself in the head 'while goofing around about having another bullet in the chamber')). There is picture too in case you're curious.

Man shoots off firework from top of his head, dies instantly

Staples, 22, of Calais, a small city on the Canadian border, placed a reloadable fireworks mortar tube on his head and told his friends he was going to light it, McCausland said. But his friends urged him to stop.

"Apparently, he thought that was a great idea," McCausland said. "His friends they thought dissuaded him from doing it, and the next thing they knew, he ignited the fireworks and he was killed instantly."

Staples's brother Cody told the Daily News of New York that he was a few feet away when his brother lit the firework and was the first to come to his side after it exploded.

"There was no rushing him to the hospital. There was no Devon left when I got there," said 25-year-old Cody Staples, who called it an accident.

"Devon was not the kind of person who would do something stupid. He was the kind of person who would pretend to do something stupid to make people laugh," he said.

In America, Directors of Guvrmint Departments are appointed on Merit
Even less was paid to why Archuleta -- whose most recent job was as a national political director for Obama for America, the President's reelection campaign -- was the person to help fix what was an agency already struggling to deal with technology problems and serious data breaches. Aides to Republican lawmakers who voted for her confirmation now acknowledge they didn't pay enough attention to the importance of technology in the agency Archuleta was taking over. U.S. investigators believe Chinese government hackers are behind the breach, the worst ever against the U.S. government. Some of the most sensitive security background check data, including information on mental and drug histories of federal job applicants, is now in the hands of Chinese intelligence, according to U.S. authorities.
Brings to mind the doha that ends:
Jisko jitna chahiye
kaat-kaat le jayiye!
Your personal data are sooooo safe with the Federal Government of the US of A! Safer than any bank vault. Safe as Folt Knox, Beijing.

Now the PRC doesn't just own half the COTUS through bribes. They own them because they have the same dirt files that the FBI and NSA had on them.

Yale University
Why just Calhoun hall alone. All Indians should petition Yale itself to be renamed. It was after all founded by plunder and colonial loot by Eliyahu Yale as the Governor of Madras in the service of the murderous exploitative East India Company . I would suggest Madras University at New Haven as an appropriate name, given the seed from which it grew, particularly slave trade.
The records of this period mention a flourishing slave trade in Madras. When the demand began to increase rapidly, the English merchants began to kidnap young children and deport them to distant parts of the world, very much against their will. Under pressure from the Mughal government, the administration of Fort St George eventually stepped in and introduced laws to curb the menace

Being a child/adolescent in America is so much more fun than being an Indian child, you get to play with guns, you can join world famous gangs, you can race around in cars, have sex with your teacher and even be a surrogate mother!

Colorado boy, seven, shot in head as he played with friends

A seven-year-old Colorado boy was serious but stable condition on Friday after being shot in the head in an apparent accident while he and other children played together alone in a suburban Denver home, authorities said.

...

Six children aged between 7 and 12 were inside the home at the time. No adults were present, authorities said, and the wounded child did not live there.

"We're not looking for anyone else," Amsler said, adding detectives will investigate how the children got the gun. "We have to get all the facts and interview all the witnesses."

12-year-old arrested for murder: Why do gangs recruit children?

A 12-year-old faces charges on a gang-related murder. Authorities say it's becoming common for grade-school children to join gangs.

A 12-year-old fugitive who spent more than a week on the run after allegedly killing a man in Nebraska was apprehended Tuesday by the US Marshals Service in Minneapolis.

The young boy is one of three juveniles – ages 12, 15, and 17 – suspected of murdering a 31-year-old man during a drug deal in Omaha on June 29. Police say the three young people had gang ties, although the victim did not. The 12-year-old may have been recruited by the 17-year-old, who is his brother, according to authorities.

Officials said on Wednesday that this is just one incident in a growing trend of gangs recruiting children to help carry out crimes. According to the National Institute of Justice, the vast majority of people who join gangs do so between the ages of 11 and 15.

New Mexico police arrest teen 'mobbers' in man's murder

Police in New Mexico have arrested six teenage boys in connection with the murder of a man who was fatally shot in the driveway of his Albuquerque home early one morning last month, authorities said on Friday.

Steve Gerecke, a 59-year-old bartender, was gunned down after confronting a group of youths who were breaking into cars and homes in his street at about 3 a.m. on June 26, police said.

The incident was an example of what one of the suspects referred to in a police report as "mobbing," in which a group of teens band together to steal from vehicles and residences.

Texas girl, 12, takes siblings for a car ride, crashes into church

A 12-year-old Texas girl packed her three younger siblings into the family SUV for a late-night joyride that ended shortly after it began when she lost control and crashed into a church, Fort Worth police said on Friday.

No one was injured in the accident. Police said the girl, who was not identified, apparently took the car keys while her father was at a nearby store on Thursday night. She then loaded her 7-year-old brother and sister and a 1-year-old brother into the car for a road trip around the block, they said.

Father of unlicensed teen driver to plead guilty in fatal Pennsylvania crash

A New York man was set to plead guilty to undisclosed criminal charges on Thursday after he let his 15-year-old daughter, an unlicensed driver, drive his SUV, which she crashed in the Pennsylvania Poconos, killing three young friends.

...

According to state police, Ware allowed his daughter, Julia, to take his Chevy Suburban SUV on Aug. 30 to meet her friends, all students at Council Rock High School South in Holland, Pennsylvania, outside Philadelphia. The teens were all in the Poconos because their parents vacationed there.

The rollover crash occurred about a mile from the Ware vacation home in the Poconos. It was not the first time Ware had let her drive, police said.

Former Utah teacher sentenced to up to 30 years for student sex assaults

A former Utah high school teacher who admitted to sexually abusing three teenage boys with whom she carried on relationships would serve at least two years, and up to three decades, in prison under a sentence handed down by a judge on Thursday.

Brianne Altice, 36, who taught English at Davis High School in suburban Salt Lake City, pleaded guilty in April to three counts of second-degree felony forcible sex abuse stemming from her contact with the three youths in 2013 and 2014.

One of the youths was 16 at the time, and the two others were 17. The age of sexual consent in Utah is 18.

Pennsylvania man sent to prison in rape plot to conceive child

A Pennsylvania man convicted of raping his wife's teenage daughter in an effort to conceive a baby the couple could raise as their own was sentenced on Thursday to up to 27 years in prison, a prosecutor said.

Gary Machinshok, 29, of Wilkes-Barre was sentenced on Thursday after pleading no contest last year to first-degree rape and other charges related to the abuse of the 15-year-old girl and her 11-year-old sister.

Prosecutors said the girls' mother, Misty Machinshok, 33, was unable to have another child and wanted the 15-year-old girl to become pregnant so she could raise the baby.

They said the mother assisted in the rape by pushing the teenager onto her husband and suggesting the best positions for getting her pregnant.

Here is a caring doctor, his only concern is for his patients.

Michigan doctor gets 45-year prison sentence for healthcare fraud

A federal judge on Friday sentenced a Detroit-area doctor who admitted performing unnecessary procedures on hundreds of cancer patients to 45 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Dr. Farid Fata, 50, who pleaded guilty in September to more than a dozen healthcare and financial fraud charges, was accused of administering unnecessary infusions or injections on 553 patients and submitting about $34 million of fraudulent claims to Medicare and private insurers.

"Dr. Fata did not care for patients; he exploited them as commodities. He over-treated, under-treated and outright lied to patients about whether they had cancer so that he could maximize his own profits," U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said in a news release.

U.S. District Court Judge Paul Borman in Detroit also ordered Fata to forfeit $17.6 million, the U.S. Justice Department said in the release.

A resident of Oakland Township, Michigan, Fata pleaded guilty to 13 counts of healthcare fraud, one count of conspiracy to pay or receive kickbacks and two counts of money laundering.

Fata admitted to prescribing and administering unnecessary aggressive chemotherapy, cancer treatments and infusion therapies to patients to increase his billings to Medicare and private insurance companies, the release said.

He also admitted to soliciting kickbacks from a hospice and home healthcare service in exchange for his referral of patients to those facilities, it said.

California prison inmate murdered and disemboweled during riot, autopsy says

Autopsy report on killing of Nicholas Anthony Rodriguez, who was nearly sawed in half in May, raises questions on security and transparency in state’s prisons

Nearly 15 hours after a riot at a California prison, guards found a missing inmate sawed nearly in two, with his abdominal organs and most chest organs removed, his body folded and stuffed into a garbage can in a shower stall a few doors from his cell.

...

The grisly discovery raises obvious questions about the prison’s security: how could such a gruesome killing happen inside a locked facility with security and surveillance? How could someone obtain weapons sharp enough to dissect a body? And why did it take so long to uncover?

Homicides are distressingly common in California prisons. More than 160 inmates have been killed in the last 15 years, and the state has one of the nation’s highest inmate homicide rates. Yet the death of 24-year-old Nicholas Anthony Rodriguez stands out.

Rodriguez’s missing organs are “still part of the investigation” at the prison in Vacaville, 40 miles (64km) southwest of Sacramento, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokeswoman Terry Thornton said Friday.

What Shreeman posted: There's a Reason They Call It Stonewall
Stonewall, Miss. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is stepping in to investigate an incident in Clarke County where a man died after an altercation with a police officer.
Clarke Co. coroner Greg Fairchild confirms 39-year-old Jonathan Sanders died Wednesday night. Sanders' attorney, Stewart Parish, tells Newscenter 11 that Sanders was exercising his horses in Stonewall when Officer Kevin Herrington pulled him off and choked Sanders with a flashlight. Right now, Stonewall police say they can't release much information, but Chief Michael Street says an incident did happen between 10:30 and 11 p.m. when an officer encountered an individual.

"We can't really give out any particulars to it because it is an ongoing investigation. I can say that we've always had a good relation with the community, and we continue to do that," (we even embrace them by the neck and use flashlights to do that) he says.

Sanders' girlfriend, Charita Kennedy, says Sanders had his horse buggy equipped with the proper lights and wasn't violating any laws. She says Sanders told the officer he could not breathe after he began choking him, and he died there on the scene. She says then Sanders was taken to the hospital where his family was not allowed to see him. Sanders was a father to two children, and Kennedy says she's devastated their one-year-old child will have to grow up without a father.
While the MBI is investigating, Chief Street is asking the citizens to remain calm and communicate with police.
"We just ask that the citizens allow that to take place, not to try to take anything out in the streets. Our door is open," he says. (For people who ask for details to be taken out feet first and buried)
Coroner Fairchild says Sanders' body has been taken to Jackson for an autopsy.

Psychologists adjusted ethics code to Pentagon & CIA post 9/11 torture

The US’s leading professional psychologists’ organization helped justify CIA and Pentagon torture programs, a new 542-page report shows. The psychologists involved later profited from torture-related contracts.

The report, concluded this month, examined the involvement of the American Psychological Association (APA) in the validation of the so-called program of enhanced interrogation, under which terror suspects were subjected to torture at CIA black cites and at the Pentagon's Guantanamo Bay prison facility.

...

The Hoffman report focuses on the APA's close ties with the Pentagon and can be viewed as complimentary to last December’s Senate report that exposed the brutality of post 9/11 CIA tactics towards terror detainees, the NYT said. It also gives additional details about how the intelligence agency adopted the enhanced interrogation program and solicited outside advice to stem concerns among its own medical professionals.

The report also describes several instances in which senior figures involved in the program moved into the private sector to get lucrative contracts from the CIA and the Pentagon. For instance, Joseph Matarazzo, a former president of the psychological association and a member of the CIA advisory committee, was asked by Mr Kirk Hubbard (CIA psychologist who was chairman of the agency advisory committee), to provide an opinion about whether sleep deprivation constituted torture. The conclusion was that it did not.

Later, Matarazzo became a partner in Mitchell Jessen and Associates, a contracting company created by James Mitchel and Bruce Jessen to consult with the CIA on their interrogation program. They were instructors for the Air Force’s SERE (survival, evasion, rescue and escape) program, in which US troops are subjected to simulated torture to prepare them for possible capture. They adapted the program's techniques for use against terror detainees, the report said.

After the Hoffman report was made public, the American Psychological Association issued an apology.

The homeless man who graduated Harvard Law with John Roberts
This homeless man:cry: who totes his belongings in white plastic bags, haunts the intersection of 17th and I streets NW and sometimes sleeps at a church — studied law alongside U.S. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and former Wisconsin senator Russ Feingold. All of them graduated from Harvard in 1979.
In a city with thousands of homeless people, Postell may be the District’s most academically distinguished. Diplomas, awards and certificates clutter a closet at his mother’s apartment, buried artifacts of a lost life. He holds three degrees: one in accounting, one in economics, and one in law.
That few remember what happened to Postell perhaps betrays the illness that seized him. Schizophrenia creeps. Some people, especially those as accomplished as Postell, can hide their symptoms for months. As the victim withdraws from social and work life, plunging into isolation, relatives, friends and co-workers may not notice anything amiss.

Oklahoma Republicans compare food-stamp recipients to animals

The Oklahoma Republican Party on Tuesday removed a Facebook post that compared people who receive food stamps to wild animals after it set off a social-media storm.

Titled a "lesson in irony," the post from Monday night says the U.S. government is proud that its food stamp program, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, this year reached 46 million people.

"Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us 'Please Do Not Feed the Animals.' Their stated reason for the policy is because 'The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves,'" it said.

Child poverty among African-Americans steady, falls for others: study

More than 38 percent of African-American children live in poverty and that rate has held roughly steady since 2010, while the U.S. economy has improved and the country's overall child poverty rate fallen slightly to 20 percent, a Pew study said on Tuesday.

The Pew Research Center study, which was based on U.S. Census figures until 2013, found child poverty rates have fallen among whites, Hispanics and Asian-Americans.

African-Americans have had the highest rate of child poverty among ethnic groups in the United States since 1997 when they were about even with Hispanics, according to figures from Pew.

Ex-mayor of Harrisburg charged in probe of city debt crisis

The former mayor of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who ended his 28-year tenure in 2010 with the state capital near financial ruin, was charged on 499 criminal counts on Tuesday for theft, bribery, evidence tampering and other charges.

Stephen Reed and unnamed associates issued municipal bonds for legitimate purposes but allegedly used some of the proceeds to buy a bizarre list of artifacts in which Reed was interested while creating fees payable to "a coterie of professionals," a grand jury said in its indictment.

Reed, 65, who served as mayor from 1982 to 2010, allegedly used some of the bond proceeds to travel the country and buy about 10,000 artifacts, including a sarcophagus, a suit of armor and a "vampire hunting kit," that he said were destined for museums.

tony texas 12 hours ago

I was involved in military exercises in the Army. We did them on Army Bases because they are DANGEROUS. Low flying aircraft, troop movements, heavy equipment, etc. At one exercise at Fort Ord we had an APC run over a Humvee, a tank throw a track and another tank go sideways down a ravine... all that happened within 300 yards of where I was sitting with a radio.

The U.S. has plenty of military bases to do these exercises on. They don't need to do them in civilian populations. Conspiracy? It's unnecessary. So why are they doing it? What if someone shoots at them? What if someone is shooting at a coyote within earshot of them? What if someone wrecks their car because there's a "cool helicopter" overhead? It's just stupid for them to be doing this.

And yes, if there is a revolution it will start in Texas. I've live here my whole life and we are heavily armed, crazy and fearless.

CHATTANOOGA (Tennessee): Four US marines were killed on Thursday by a suspected gunman who opened fire at two military offices in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before being fatally shot in an attack officials called a brazen, brutal act of domestic terrorism.

The FBI named the suspect as Muhammod Youssuf Abdulazeez and said he was 24 years old. NBC reported he was a naturalized American born in Kuwait.

US officials said law enforcement authorities are investigating whether he was inspired by Islamic State or a similar militant group. No official motive has yet been given.

12 signs America is on the decline
When it comes to a few key indicators, Ireland, the UK, Canada and even Albania and Greece are surpassing America.

America is declining, in large and important measures, yet policymakers aren’t paying attention. So argues a new academic paper, pulling together previously published data.

Consider this:

America’s child poverty levels are worse than in any developed country anywhere, including Greece, devastated by a euro crisis, and eastern European nations such as Poland, Lithuania and Estonia.
Median adult wealth in the US ($39,000) is 27th globally, putting it behind Cyprus, Taiwan, and Ireland.
Even when “life satisfaction” is measured, America ranks #12, behind Israel, Sweden and Australia.
Overall, America’s per capita wealth, health and education measures are mediocre for a highly industrialized nation. Well-being metrics, perceptions of corruption, quality and cost of basic services, are sliding, too. Healthcare and education spending are funding bloated administrations even while human outcomes sink, the authors say.

Police probing death in LA find 1,200 guns, 2 tons ammo

Police investigating the death of a Los Angeles man uncovered an arsenal inside his home and garage — more than 1,200 guns and about two tons of ammunition, authorities said Monday.

Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andrew Smith called the number of rifles, pistols and shotguns staggering. Many had never been fired and some were still wrapped in boxes, with price tags still attached.

"Our truck couldn't carry it all," Smith told the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1HFAKVn). "We had to go back and make another trip."

Detroit police seek men who robbed couples, raped the women

Police in Detroit are searching for men who allegedly robbed two young couples at gunpoint in separate attacks two hours apart and gang-raped the women while forcing the male victims to watch.

The attacks happened Thursday night along a major street on Detroit's northwest side, police said. In each case, the couples were out walking when their attackers, armed with handguns, approached them.

Six men took part in the first attack and all six of them raped the woman, Fitzgerald said. There had been no arrests as of Sunday afternoon, police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis told The Associated Press.

"One of the suspects produced a gun, pointed it at both victims and advised them to go to an alley," Fitzgerald said. "Both victims complied. They were forced to the ground. The male victim was forced to watch the female victim get sexually assaulted. Their clothing was taken."

The second attack happened about two hours later and was almost identical to the first, except this time there were only four men who took part, the deputy chief said. Like in the first attack, they walked up to a young couple and one of them showed his handgun and ordered the couple into an alley. The suspects took the couple's clothes and raped the woman, he said.

Ex-lottery worker convicted of rigging system to win $14M

A former lottery security official was found guilty Monday of rigging a computerized Hot Lotto game so he could win a $14 million jackpot then trying to get acquaintances to cash the prize for him without revealing his identity.

Prosecutors said Eddie Tipton inserted a stealth program into the computer that randomly picked the numbers then deleted it so it could not be detected. Although Tipton, 52, never got his hands on the winning total, he was charged with two counts of fraud.

Three U.S. Navy admirals censured in bribery scandal

The U.S. Navy censured three admirals in connection with a bribery scandal involving a Singapore company that held more than $200 million in contracts to clean and supply ships from the Seventh Fleet, Navy officials confirmed on Monday.

...

Francis is now cooperating with federal investigators, according to court documents.

He has admitted to providing envelopes of cash, high-end electronics, lavish travel and accommodations, and prostitutes for U.S. Navy personnel in exchange for sending him business, information on ship movements, and investigations into his company, as well as other classified materials.

Pimpo was demoted to captain, according to the Navy documents. In 2007, he was the supply officer for the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan. Pimpo admitted to investigators that in 2007 he solicited luxury travel from Francis, and that he paid $50 each for two dinners at Singapore restaurants that should have cost almost $24,000, or about $770 per person.

According to the censure letter, Pimpo also secured free luxury hotel rooms for two weeks in 2007 for "senior carrier Strike Group Seven leadership."

Miller, then the commander of the Ronald Reagan, attended some of the 2007 dinner parties and then recommended GDMA as a "superior contractor to its competitors" just days later.

Video shows that traffic stop of woman who died in Texas jail escalated quickly
Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old black woman from the Chicago area, was pulled over on July 10 in Prairie View, Texas, northwest of Houston, for failing to signal a lane change.

The 52-minute video, released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, shows the trooper, Brian Encinia, approaching the car and asking if Bland is irritated. Bland replies that she is upset about being stopped for such a minor issue.

After running a check of Bland's driving history, the trooper returns and asks her to put out her cigarette, which she refuses to do, saying she has the right to smoke in her own vehicle.

At that point, the video shows Encinia demanding she leave the vehicle and then trying to pull her out. He then points a Taser and shouts: "I will light you up."

Bland asks at least 10 times about why she is being arrested and for what offense before Encinia replies she is resisting arrest.

She is heard telling the trooper: "I can't wait until we go to court."

Bland, who was taken into custody and later charged with assaulting an officer, was found hanging in her jail cell with a plastic trash bag around her neck three days later.

Her death was originally ruled a suicide. But her family, while acknowledging that Bland previously posted a video blog saying she was struggling with depression, has dismissed the idea she was suicidal. Family members said she was excited about starting a new job at her alma mater, Prairie View A&M University.

Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis said on Monday he would investigate her death as a homicide. The state trooper, Encinia, has been has been put on desk duty for violating protocol in the arrest, officials have said.

Demonstrators have protested outside the jail where Bland died and her case has been taken up by activists who say it is the latest example of racial bias and excessive force by U.S. law enforcement. The trooper involved in the incident is white.

Election 2016: Jeb Bush Speech Denouncing Lobbyists Was Organized By Corporate Lobbying Group
In his speech in Tallahassee, Florida, on Monday denouncing the influence of lobbyists, Jeb Bush neglected to mention one critical detail: The event was organized by a powerful corporate lobbying group that has helped financially support his White House bid.

Speaking at Florida State University, the former Florida governor derided what he called the capital city’s “comfortable establishment” that leverages lobbying power to unduly shape public policy. “I was a governor who refused to go along with that establishment,” Bush said.
While Bush explicitly slammed legislators who become lobbyists, his speech was hosted at a public university whose president is John Thrasher, a former state Republican Party chairman who became a lobbyist at the Southern Strategy Group after serving as Florida House speaker. Thrasher later left Southern Strategy and went back through the revolving door, first to the state legislature and then to the $430,000-a-year public-sector job at FSU. Thrasher was given the job in 2014 by appointees of Republican Gov. Rick Scott, whose election campaign Thrasher chaired.[/quote
According to campaign finance records, Bush has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars from lobbyists for his campaign -- and that does not count yet-to-be-disclosed contributions to the super PAC backing his White House bid. Southern Strategy Group lobbyists are together the thimird-largest source of Bush campaign cash from employees at a single company.

In his speech bashing lobbyists, Bush did not mention his relationship with the Southern Strategy Group, nor did he detail his own past work as a registered lobbyist for his Miami real estate firm. A representative of Bush’s campaign told the Wall Street Journal that though Bush was indeed a registered lobbyist, he “was not working as a lobbyist” and instead was a partner on the underlying real estate project.

A presidential nominee and a veteran like Jeb Bush should surely know that in politics it is 99% perception that counts

Public urination is such a problem in San Francisco that the city's Public Works Department is hoping to curb the issue by introducing a special paint with a repellent surface that makes urine splash right back onto the offending reliever.

After an announcement in March asking residents to weigh in on where to test it, the pee-reflecting paint has now been introduced at nine city walls in locations deemed popular amongst public urinators.

Public urination has been a long-standing issue in the city — a 2002 law meant to ban it has seen little success, despite the $50-$200 fee.

I was shocked by a light skinned, good looking black female urinating on the sidewalk in California. It influenced my web surfing habits for years. :rotfl:

The NRA is keeping insanity well and truly alive and kicking in the US.As the shooting incidents increase and racism against the Afro-Americans and non-white minorities rise, and if not resolved by whichever admin is in power, the US is heading for social catastrophe and continuous civil unrest, fuelled by the ease with which one can obtain weapons .US made Kalashnikovs after sanctions on Russia,is only adding more fuel to the fire.

since the abrahamic religions practice a zero sum game they take their god to be pure white and satan as the repository of all evil.

eastern and old norse religions have a more nuanced pov in that even the "bad" may have been good once and retained some of their goodness. there is no all-inclusive Satan in hinduism or buddhism to scare peple and keep them in line. hinduism has no such "dark gods"

duryodhana, karna and ravana come to mind.

satan could well be a god who lost a power struggle and was cast out into the void....

There is the concept of a fallen angel in the Bible. Beelzebub or some other demon is a fallen angel.
