Congress Stand on Vaidik Borders on the Absurd

(Nalin S Kohli is spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Director of the party's Public Policy Research Centre. He is also a lawyer and has extensive experience in media and education.)

Veteran journalist, Ved Pratap Vaidik, during his recent visit to Pakistan, met with Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the dreadful 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai. The interaction itself and the photograph of the meeting has expectedly created an uproar. While Dr Vaidik has sought to defend his meeting on the grounds of journalistic privilege, his critics are demanding action against him.

The Congress Party has taken an extreme position of seeking to project Dr Vaidik as a member of the RSS and accuse the government of aiding this interview with a terrorist.

Essentially there are two issues that need to be segregated and examined separately. Firstly, has the BJP or the BJP-led government facilitated Dr Vaidik's interview with the terrorist? Secondly, should journalists seek to interview such terrorists and provide them a platform for publicity or public relations?

The first question is a matter of fact. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has termed this as a "diplomatic misadventure of a private individual" and also said that the government has nothing to do with it "directly, indirectly or even remotely". External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has reiterated that the "allegation that the government facilitated the journalist's meeting with Hafiz Saeed is false and baseless". (Nothing To Do With Vaidik-Saeed Meet: Government On Rahul Gandhi's Charge)

It is nothing short of preposterous to expect that the Government of India or the BJP would facilitate a journalist's interview with India's most wanted terrorist.

However, the Congress Party, yet to recover from the tectonic shock of the 2014 election results, is blindly grasping at anything and everything to level wild allegations against the new government and the BJP, even if what they say borders threateningly close to the absurd. In its urgency to garner political mileage and media space on the Vaidik issue, the Congress Party appears to be scoring self-goals by the minute.

Dr Vaidik was part of a delegation to Pakistan led by veteran Congressman Mani Shankar Aiyer. The delegation also included Salman Khurshid, the former External Affairs Minister. The otherwise vocal Congress spokespersons are yet to explain in what capacity Dr Vaidik was included in this delegation - as a journalist, distinguished Indian or "RSS man", as Rahul Gandhi chooses to portray Dr Vaidik. If Dr Vaidik is indeed an "RSS man", then, by that measure, are Mr Aiyer and Mr Khurshid, by including him with them, covert members of the RSS as well?

Even as it waxes eloquent on nationalism, the Congress Party chooses to forget that its Digvijaya Singh referred to Osama bin Laden as "Osamaji". Further, Sushil Kumar Shinde as Home Minister in 2012, referred to the same Hafiz Saeed as "Shri Hafiz Saeed" and "Mr Hafiz Saeed" while reading out a statement. Evidently, the Congress itself has accorded these terrorists unwarranted respect, even as they accuse the BJP for no reason.

The second issue involves a question of journalistic ethics - whether journalists should meet with or interview terrorists like Hafiz Saeed. The right to interview anyone or seek information from any source is a journalistic privilege. Dr Vaidik has exercised his journalistic privilege, independently, in an individual capacity. To accuse the government for his meeting is an unfounded and unfair allegation.

As a former media professional, I personally prefer the definition of news as something "new" in the "public domain for public good". Often unfortunately, "for public good" is lost in the din of breaking news and even sensationalism. Whether by meeting Saeed, Dr Vaidik has served "public good" is something he alone can explain.

In the meantime, it serves us well to recall the late Margaret Thatcher's comment. "Democratic nation," she said, "must try to find ways to starve the terrorist and the hijacker of the oxygen of publicity on which they depend."

Which is officially accepted by Pakistan and which gets religiously reflected in every Budget of ours as outstanding.

Secondly, if STFUTSP claims some outstanding amount from India, tha claim is being made straight out of the deep orifices of their stinking musharraf and as an afterthought.

Pakistan captures Taliban commander
The Pakistani military has captured a Taliban commander who once tried to blow up former president Pervez Musharraf, security officials said on Tuesday.

Adnan Rashid, who was captured on Friday in South Waziristan in northwest Pakistan near the Afghan border, is the first well-known Taliban commander taken since the military launched an offensive in neighbouring North Waziristan last month. He was injured in a shootout during his capture in a house where he was living with his family
He is the ex-PAF officer who was released by the Taliban in a jail breakout from Bannu.

..insecurity
a majority of people in Pakistan do not look upon the Taliban favourably. According to Pew’s finding, 59pc of those questioned felt negatively vis-à-vis the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)
Last year, when a similar survey was held this number was slightly lower, with 56pc expressing disapproval of the militants
other Muslim countries have as many as 80pc of their population, as in Tunisia, and 75pc (Egypt) showing concern at religious extremism
What about the 8pc who explicitly declared themselves to be sympathetic to the Taliban?
They may not be card-holding members of the TTP who roam around wearing suicide vests but they are conditioned since childhood to internalise violence and would support and shelter the Taliban if the occasion arose
In fact, the social environment is so deeply saturated with religiosity that it is difficult for many people to escape its impact and think in a secular manner.
Yep! Think in a secular way, just like their founder;

Here's the caveat:
A margin of error has to be provided for. The reality is that it is not easy to get people to extend their cooperation willingly and honestly in such surveys and opinion polls.
The moot question here is why does this large body of opinion in Pakistan — 33 pc — tacitly accept violence and militancy without strongly reacting to it?
AoA.

What do you know .. someone has already tried a paan chewing fellow at the Wagah tamasha!
Source
I’m reminded about an incident narrated to me by my Quarter Master. My QM “X” who was posted in Attari – Wagah post as Coy Commander and his men (All qualified Drill Instructors) were detailed to perform the retreat ceremony. There is usually an unwritten competition between India and Pakistan in terms of the volume of the sound produced by their feet.

One fine day, X noticed that the noise which his jawans were producing by banging their feet on the roads was subsidized by the noise produced by the Pakistani Jawan from his mouth. The noise (Huhhhhh) was heard well near the Indian VIP stands. Next day “X” ordered his jawan to produce the same noise of higher decibel and make sure that his noise overshadowed Pakistani’s. His jawan tried hard to produce the sound while banging his feet at the same time but he was not able to match his counterpart. The Pakistani’s were smart enough to make sure that they don’t press their knee into service while compensating the sound from their vocal cord.

After the ceremony “X” called his jawan for boosting their morale. One of his Jawan said “ Sahab, Give me a chance, Kal ke bad se wo bhi aawaz nahi nikalega “ X thought about it and detailed him for the next day ceremony. Now, when the ceremony started the next evening (Now, for people who have not watched the ceremony, Jawans of both the country march towards each other and then after banging their feet for some time they stand very close until the gates are closed) jawans marched towards each other and as soon as the gates opened both of them banged their feet and produced the sound. Now, X noticed that his jawan had sprayed pan masala on the Pakistani  while producing the “huhhhhh” sound. Surprisingly, the Pakistani’s didn’t react then but they quickly learned a lesson and got back to the usual rehearsed drill (Of course, Not using their vocal cord)

Petition filed against Ved Pratap Vaidik in Indore’s court for sedition

INDORE: Under attack from all corners for his meeting with the most wanted terrorist and his controversial statement over status of Kashmir in Pakistani media, senior journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik got into legal trouble on Wednesday when a Congress leader from Indore filed a petition in Indore local court under charge of sedition and abetment to mutiny.

Congress leader Vivek Khandelwal filed a petition against Vaidik for his controversial statement over Kashmir and meeting with most wanted terrorist in the court of first class judicial magistrate VP Sharma under section 124 A (sedition) and 132 (abetment to mutiny) of IPC. Court admitted the petition and set date of August 5 for hearing in the case wherein petitioner will record their statements.

Counsellor of petitioner Ashish Shrivastav said charges are very serious and Vaidik will be in serious legal trouble. "So many people have been sentenced under sedition for giving objectionable statement. The section is very strong and statement of Vaidik is highly objectionable," said Shrivastav.

Petitioner Vivek Khandelwal said union government should arrest Vaidik without any delay. "Even for organizing small political protest administration and intelligence official asks us several question, here some one go to Pakistan and meet India's most wanted terrorist Hafiz Saeed and still he is roaming free," said Khandelwal adding that intelligence official should interrogate Vaidik to know what discussion he has with Saeed.

On top of this Vaidik give an interview of Pakistan's new channel and say objectionable things about Kashmir. "This is insult to hundreds of soldiers who had sacrificed their live while fighting in Kashmir," said Khandelwal adding that his statement can cause mutiny in armed forces. His act is threat to national security and integrity.

ramana Ji :

Aman Ki Asha will always be an albatross around India’s neck. Here is a prime example :

Strengthening ties: India considering access to Pakistani SIM cards
KARACHI: Indian Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher has written to the home ministry asking that mobile phone SIM cards issued in Pakistan be allowed access in India, Economic Times reported.
Kher wrote that this unilateral move will enhance business and trade ties between the two neighbouring countries. He further added that Pakistanis travelling to India on visas are not terrorists, according to the Indian business newspaper.
I, for one, cannot understand the Indian “High” Officials wanting to enhance trade ties with the Land of the Pure and the Home of the Terrorists.

Indian Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher stating Pakistanis travelling to India on visas are not terrorists, takes the cake!

With Chah Bahar coming up India does not need a transit via Pakistan for access to the Central Asian Republics.

The CAR International Trade is mainly with Russia, Western Europe, FSR, the CARs, and China – all transported by Rail. In 2012 - from the CIA's WorldFact Book - of all the CAR trade UAE receives 6.3% of Kyrgyzstan Total Exports, Turkmenistan receives 6.9% of its Imports from UAE and Exports 9.6% of its Exports to Bangladesh. BASTA.

One, thus, cannot understand the salvating and wide eyed eager Indians falling over themselves in pushing for India-Pak Trade. In my opinion the Security of India will suffer – in US$ Terms - many times the benefits of Trading to, with and through Pakistan.

I hope wiser sense prevails in the Indian Establishment in General and the Indian Government in Particular.

Someone posted the Bakara videos discussing the Vaidik pig meeting. One thing that struck me about that meeting is how she and her ilk portray themselves as "nationalists" by asking how Vaidik could do such a thing as meet the pig and she wouldn't do so. Forgetting completely that attending an ISI sponsored event is as much sedition in the first place.

To SSJi and other gurus. In the videos, I find K.C.Singh who is normally right on the money a bit dis-ingenuous. Aside from all the good things he said, he said Vaidik meeting the pig gives the pig legitimacy from India, especially so given Vaidik's proximity to BJP. He then goes on to add that India looses credibility with the "international community" including US which is trying to isolate the pig and he also cited the bounty. I find this disingenuous because while the US is making some public show of going after the pig, they have absolutely no intention of doing anything of the sort in material terms. Furthermore, they know how crucial the pig is to TSPA/ISI, and knocking him out would demoralize the pigLeTs and would destabilize TSPA.

Thus, if India were to kiss and make up the pig, TSPA, ISI, US will only nod in approval so both India and TSP can be its loyal munnas. I wonder if K.C.Singh understands this.

CRamS wrote:dishaJi,

Point taken. But my point is the damage this is doing to the country at large and NDA govt. Look, many BJP stalwarts did take umbrage and rightfully denounced Adhothi for her seditious remarks. By the same token, should they not denounce this 2-bit SOB? Maybe I have not read or heard the details, but it seems that official BJP position is that this punk acted as a "journalist" in his own capacity. Thats fine, but there should have been a more forceful condemnation of his remarks as sedition, just as they did to Adhothi. Especially so since this punk is closely associated with Baba Ramdev who is definitely a BJP/Modi supporter. I think thats what has given ammunition to the Modi haters. Lost in all this is that majority of those punks who went to TSP in the first place are all Sonia stooges.
CRamS'ji., there are several issues that are damaging the country. One of them was having a puppet at the helm and the country took its time but removed him legally and appreciably.

You yourself has pointed out that Vaidik is a 2-bit SOB. Why take notice of him and make him a 8-bit SOB. All the MSM wants is a nautanki to sell their wares. In the parliament, the government declared that it was not connected directly, indirectly or even remotely to vaidik. That is it.

And any further discussion on vaidik IMO is playing into the hands of the suars and CONgoons who would want a spurious debate instead of talking about real achievements.

This is now getting out of hand. Pakistan to play football series against India after nine years
Like the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is making all-out efforts for the revival of cricketing ties with India, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has succeeded in finalising a two-match bilateral series scheduled to be held in August after a gap of nine years.
visit India from August 16 to 21 and play matches on August 17 and 20.
Lodhi said,” We are still using equipment and other stuff that was used 100 years ago.
IT was more fun watching the world kick paki balls in Brazil.

Just wonder if BJP need a lesson in how to sit in opposition from Khangress. The vicious atacks on Vaidik's idiocy and blaming the government for that stands in stark contrast to BJPs quiet acceptance of the invitation to Musharraf when he came and was given Indian hospitality.

Musharraf was at least partly responsible for ensuring that the BJP stayed out of power for a decade and Hafiz Saeed could be used to do much the same thing to the BJP.

It is another matter that the Congres were themselves soft on Pakistan - but that was a runaway success because the BJP were unable to get their act together and be effective in opposition to stop that.

One more video -- perhaps a bit dated, but treasure trove of info about Pakistan.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryASDrHsfUI -Part -II

A few comments:

1. I am seeing a lot of BR views being articulated everywhere.
2. Listen to Stephen Tankel the first speaker, He talks about Pakistan's non-state actors and "Pakistan's Security Policy" very, very bluntly.
3. Gretchen Peters talks about Pakistan economy and funding of terror. Great insight as to how to track it by interpreting the patterns of foreign remittances. Some of the conclusions she draws are very insightful.

I will go out on a limb and state that the US knows *exactly* what is going on in Pakistan. US and Indian interests are converging very rapidly here. India should approach this situation with wide open eyes but with an open mind to see how we can exploit this situation.

Added Later: I posted this as I was watching this. In the Q&A, section I see some crazy questions about "Hindu Extremists" :-) They differentiate between "Hindu Nationalism" (Good) and Hindu Extremists (Bad) :-)

A detailed discussion on Indian Mujahaddin follows.

Here is part -I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9Sw0LC_N2c

Unlike me, please do watch in sequence.

Ramana,

Actually in this whole tamasha one point is getting buried. I personally think this point is even more appalling and has the potential of being harmful for India's interests. This is the fact that Salman Khurshid, who till some months ago was India's Foreign Minister, was part of the motley group led by MSA.

Vaidik is a loose cannon; MSA despite his despicable views is a known quantity and at least has been consistent in his bile. But here we have India's Foreign Minister at the start of this year and privy to confidential information - most of which should still be current - taking part in this track 2 tamasha only a few months after he resigned due to change in government.

Does it mean that he was all along, on the side, encouraging all this track 2 nonsense while in his official capacity? Does he realise that would make track 2 or 3, whatever you want to call it India's official strategy - track 1 if you want to call it that - during the time he was in charge of India's External Affairs Ministry? What guarantee is there that he didn't let slip - OK, maybe inadvertently - some aspects of India's official strategic thinking and objectives vis a vis Pakistan during all the bhaicharia expressed during the trip? These objectives don't change - at least not immediately - the moment the government changes, that's why they are strategic.

Do these folks even think of these things before jumping on an opportunity to get a free trip? It's little wonder that Paki leaders hold such dim views about India's political leadership.

Pakistan's ongoing military operation may be making headway in clearing militant hideouts, but it has shattered the dream of one father of 36 children -- to take a fourth wife.
The 54-year-old grumbled that paying to transport his brood used up the cash he had set aside for his fourth marriage.
But after giving birth to a dozen children each, Khan said, his wives had told him enough was enough. "I was planning to have a fourth marriage because now my wives have boycotted me and told me 'no more children'," Khan said. "They do not allow me to go near them, but I have desires I want to fulfil.
Khan was 17 years old when he married his 14-year-old cousin in Shawa. They had eight daughters and four sons, but after eight years, the amorous tribesman got married again, to a 17-year-old.
Khan's third wedding came when he married his brother's widow when he was killed in a dispute just a month after tying the knot himself.
he admitted he struggled to remember who was who's mother. "I can tell you that he or she is my child, but I cannot tell with all of them who is his or her mother," Khan said.
But Khan's 14-year-old son Ghufran has no such fears. "God willing I will also have several marriages and produce even more kids than my father," he told AFP.
Phew !!

Jo Bakistan mein ****u, who Inglishtan mein bhi...Two Pakistani diplomats in UK accused of abduction, rape
representatives from Pakistan accused of child abduction and rape
entitled to diplomatic immunity and thus protected from British law
Earlier last year, the FCO had made that request for five of the most serious crimes, including those committed by the Pakistani diplomats
Despite the fact that the Pakistani government had partially lifted immunity in one case so that police could interview the diplomat, there were no legal compulsions for complying with the British request
One of the comments for a momeen who knows...
white supremacy conspiracy

Finally, some good news from Quitter.

22,000 tons of garbage piled up in Quetta in 10 years cleared
About 22,000 tons of garbage piled during the past 10 years in the provincial capital has been lifted under the ‘one-time cleaning activity project’ under way for a few days.
The corporation has a capacity to lift 400 tons of garbage, while the city generates 1,000 tons daily
So, the paki trash problem is cyclical and will recur. But, that is not the main point. The next fact will confirm why the paki momeens still allow non-malsis to live in bakistan, land of, for and by the pure.
Meanwhile, official sources told Dawn that of the 1,000 sanitary workers of the corporation about 400 were Muslim who usually refused to lift the garbage on the plea that it made their clothes ‘impure’.
The Muslim sanitary workers had been recruited by religious and nationalist political parties during the previous regimes.
So, until the last recruitment drive, majority of the "sanitary" workers were Hindus and Christians. That's why all the non-malsis were not "purged" in 1947.

Bakistan is on its way to break last year's records. With two more cases, this year’s polio tally surpasses last year’s
The country has surpassed last year’s polio count of 93 cases as it has recorded three new cases, taking the nationwide tally to 94 so far this year.
“In Afghanistan only seven polio cases have been recorded this year and, according to DNA reports, the viruses have been transferred there from Pakistan”

Pure bakistanis use laser technology to cleanse the nation of the impure. Laser beam focusing pilgrims’ plane creates scare
unknown people created scare by throwing laser light on an aeroplane carrying Shia pilgrims from the Iranian city of Mashhad the previous night.
it might be the handiwork of sectarian terrorists hiding in settlements around the airport
Most of them are Afghan refugees and people associated with religious organisations
But, dear lesser mortals and children of the lesser gods, don't fear because...
security at the airport had been strengthened

Conjugally happy: Husband of 3 and father of 36 says he still has 'desires to fulfill'
AFP
Bannu, July 17, 2014

Pakistan's ongoing military operation may be making headway in clearing militant hideouts, but it has shattered the dream of one father of 36 children -- to take a fourth wife.

Gulzar Khan is one of hundreds of thousands of people who have fled the North Waziristan tribal area since the army moved in to clear longstanding bases of Taliban and other militants.

Escaping the military advance meant leaving the 35-room house he shares in the North Waziristan village of Shawa with around 100 family members, including wives, children and grandchildren.

The 54-year-old grumbled that paying to transport his brood used up the cash he had set aside for his fourth marriage.

"The money I had saved was consumed in relocating my family from Shawa to Bannu and now I have again started saving and waiting for the operation to conclude," he told AFP.

Islamic law permits men to take up to four wives and in Pakistan's deeply conservative northwest, large families are the norm.

But after giving birth to a dozen children each, Khan said, his wives had told him enough was enough.

"I was planning to have a fourth marriage because now my wives have boycotted me and told me 'no more children'," Khan said.

Khan was 17 years old when he married his 14-year-old cousin in Shawa. They had eight daughters and four sons, but after eight years, the amorous tribesman got married again, to a 17-year-old.

"I was not satisfied and needed more of it -- I mean the love-making," Khan told AFP at his 17-room house in the northwestern town of Bannu, where the bulk of people displaced by the military operation have taken refuge.

"I do not indulge in adultery and sinful acts so I satisfy my natural desires lawfully by marriage," said Khan, who worked as a taxi driver in Dubai from 1976 to 1992.

Khan's third wedding came when he married his brother's widow when he was killed in a dispute just a month after tying the knot himself.

Two of his sons now work as drivers in Dubai and the money they send home helps support the extended family, along with income from Khan's farmland in Bannu and Shawa.Hosted by imgur.com

"My sons send up to 50,000 rupees ($500) every month from Dubai and we make ends meet with this money," Khan added.

He said there were no disputes between his three wives, all living under the same roof, but he admitted he struggled to remember who was who's mother.

"I can tell you that he or she is my child, but I cannot tell with all of them who is his or her mother," Khan said.

As tribal custom forbids women from speaking to men outside their family, AFP's reporter was unable to seek the views of Khan's wives on the matter.

Conjugally happy

Khan said he had no problem feeding and clothing his family, but with so many people around, there was little privacy.

"Often there are two to three kids lying around me when I go to sleep, so it's difficult to have a private moment with my wives," Khan said.

Asked if he used any drugs like **** to perform, Khan said that he never felt the need.

"I had a heart attack 12 years ago and also have an ulcer, and my doctor had advised me to stay happy," Khan told AFP.

"I am happy only when I perform my conjugal rights."

Pakistan's 180 million-strong population is growing by more than two percent a year, according to the United Nations Population Fund, which said in late 2012 that a third of Pakistanis have no access to birth control.

Some observers have warned that unless more is done to slow the growth, the country's natural resources -- particularly water -- will not be enough to support the population.

But Khan's 14-year-old son Ghufran has no such fears.

"God willing I will also have several marriages and produce even more kids than my father," he told AFP.

As DocJi predicted, Vaidik seems pretty much gone from the news, at least from my random sampling of DDM, not withstanding some mocking chatter from pseudo sickulars that BJP is pseudo nationalist, talking tough but kissing up to hafeez pig. Boy Indian politics is vile.
