Signs of Maoist revival in TN - L.Srikrishna, The Hindu
The arrest of a Maoist, identified as Neelamegam alias Vinayak alias Kathir (30), near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district two days ago has put the spotlight once again on Kodaikanal hills.

For a long time, Kodaikanal has been the most preferred choice for the youth attracted by the Maoist ideology. The jungles here have not only been a good hideout, but have also enabled them to avoid the police scanner.

According to highly placed sources in the intelligence agencies, though some outfits are legally banned in the State, they continued to function underground and re-group as and when situations demanded.

The “encounter” in April 2008 in Kodaikanal hills is a case in point. When the Special Task Force (STF) was about to arrest a suspect, there was an exchange of fire. After a long battle, a well trained expert in handling arms, Naveen Prasad (27) was killed in Vadakavunji, near Kodaikanal.

At that time, a few of his accomplices escaped.

After almost seven years in June, one of them identified as Kannan alias Senthil alias Kumar (46) was held in Coimbatore. Suspected to be well trained in weaponry, Kumar's arrest was described as a “big catch”.

Close on the heels, the arrest of Neelamegam in Vadamadurai has raised eyebrows about the government’s claims that there were no Maoist activities in the State.

According to reliable sources in the State and Central intelligence agencies, the southern districts, particularly Madurai has been a preferred choice since 1980s for those who operated under the banner of the Tamil nationalist movements.

An officer, who was then closely associated with the investigation into the blast case in the TV tower in Kodaikanal which claimed one life, said a Tamil nationalist Polilan figured as A-1 along with two Sri Lankan militants.

The Dindigul District Sessions Court heard the case.

Similarly, in the robbery case involving Bank of Madura (now ICICI Bank) in Madurai in late 80s also suggested the alleged role of Tamil nationalist and some of the Sri Lankan Tamils behind the crime.

In fact, the then Madurai Mayor Muthu’s son too figured as one of the accused, police said.

While police agencies say that there was no space for extremists and the State was free from such elements, the encounter death in Kodaikanal hills in 2008 only proved that they had “regrouped” and determined to strike vital installations.

According to the intelligence officials, Neelamegam, a Dalit and a native of Madurai Viratipathu, has a number of friends living in different names in Dindigul and Theni districts.

He was married to a woman from Karnataka, also a Maoist, who was arrested a few years ago.

The number of bruises and injuries on Neelamegam suggested that he was living in the forests, sources say, adding that sustained combing operation could lead to the arrests of his accomplices.
The TN police have always been ruthless in eliminating the Maoists and I hope that this time too they would act similarly.

Individuals to come under terror ban list - Vijaita Singh, The Hindu
The government is all set to amend the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to bring in a clause that would pave the way to “designate individuals” along with terror organisations under the “banned list of entities.”

Presently, there is no provision for an individual, suspected of having terror links making it to the list of terrorist entities banned,
maintained centrally by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Under Section 35 of the UAPA, there are 38 groups in the list of banned terrorist organisations, the latest one to have been added being the Islamic State (IS).

Offences outside India

An official said the law change would cover the case of an individual not being associated with any terrorist organisation but committing an offence outside India. “An individual may be involved in terrorist activity, but he may or may not be associated with any specific terrorist organisation. This amendment would make it easier for us to identify such individuals and designate them as terrorists,” said a senior Home Ministry official.

Anti-terror list

Another official said the arrest of Mehdi Masroor Biswas, a Bangalore-based computer professional and IS recruit Areeb Majeed, sparked a debate on listing of individuals under the “anti-terror list.”

Biswas was arrested for running a pro-Islamic State Twitter handle.

When The Hindu reports some thing of this nature, we need to assume that things have got much worse. When even the common man in India believed that ISIS was getting people from India, The Hindu etc. downplayed it by saying these were not really correct or one off cases. Then finally they got a report out which stated that Home Ministry has realised the threat of ISIS. As if, Home Ministry was unaware till now; when the truth was that it was The Hindu and others who had the ostrich mentality.
Indian Mujahideen eyes Kerala youth
Local media channels had reported last week that a journalist working in Palakkad district had moved to the Middle East and then have joined the ISIS. So when the media says "eyes", most likely things would be even worse by now, with a few recruitments actually happening.

I don't think there has been any change in the traditional vote banks of the Congress in Kerala. It was a strong contender in the state politics, and I feel it would remain so. I don't think the fact that Congress is a poor-loser opposition at the Center has not dented much of their image at state politics level. For all you know state level Congress politicians would be happy to have some meaningful partnership with the BJP led Central Govt. It is the commies who kind of have the "will not touch BJP with a barge-pole" attitude. More than IM, I feel the terrorist elements may have joined other outfits.

A day before the country's 69th Independence Day, a special police task force arrested four suspected Harkat- ul- Jihadi Al-Islami (HUJI) members from Hyderabad on Friday.

Police said the nabbing of a Pakistani national, two Bangladeshis and a Mayanmarese national from the Old City area raises huge concern.

It learnt that the Pakistani national Mohammed Nazi and four others have been taking shelter in a house in Chanchalguda area for the last two months. City police said that Nazir has been in India from last five years and officials are investigating about their activities and affiliation with HUJI and possible terror links.

All four have been staying using fake passports and some incriminating material was seized from them, police said. "We are still verifying about their intentions of illegal stay in city. They are already in possession of several fake ID proofs in their names. These four members have been in touch with two locals who were facilitating their stay," a senior police official said.

For the last couple of days city police have been conducting extensive search operation across the city after Hyderabad figured among the few cities to get specific alert to be on the toes on eve of Independence Day. City police are expected to divulge more details in couple of hours during a media conference.

In the past, Hyderabad had the history of having HUJI sympathisers and some people are still in jail for their links with the outfit.

In fact, after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) nabbed Khalid Mohammed, a Rohingya, from Balapur last November in connection with the Burdwan blast case, the city police perception had changed. Caught off foot by the presence of the Jamat-Ul Mujahideen Bangladesh, an off-shoot of Rohingya Solidarity Organisation, in their backyard, they have taken a host of measures including fingerprinting, employment status, demographic details and photographs while vigil has been stepped up.

The city police, though, is tight-lipped about any recent intelligence inputs about members of the community being in touch with radical groups abroad. Police officials do not deny the vulnerability factor of Rohingyas, who, they believe could be easily exploited by extremists to take up radical paths.

As many as 1679 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar live in parts of Hyderabad and Cyberabad according to police records. After their exodus in June 2012 in the aftermath of ethnic violence between Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar to various parts of India, including Hyderabad, and considering their susceptibility towards extremists outfits, the city police have been keeping a strict surveillance on the community.

The Kolkata Police believes that a pan-India gang has been helping the extremists, along with JMB cadre, obtain fake documents and visas to escape to other countries.
....
....
The police have found out that the two gangs would get hold of expired or rejected Indian passports from across India and then the group heads would send the documents to their Kolkata counterparts. The Kolkata gang members would use a special Chinese ink to erase the 'rejected' stamp of the Regional Passport Office and then change the photo and signature to come up with a forged passport, the police said. The quality of a forged passport was so good that neither the Customs nor the immigration officials could detect the changes, said the police, adding that the gang charged around Rs 2 lakh for a fake Indian passport. The "vanishing ink" is reportedly smuggled from China to Ha in Bhutan, from where it is brought here through Paro. One of the main gang agents was a Chittagong resident, Ashraful, who was close to the JMB terrorist module, the police said.

India asked UAE to extradite IM man - Vijaita Singh, The Hindu
The agenda of the UAE visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi included extradition of 10 persons, several of them wanted in terror cases.

Though officials did not divulge the names on the extradition list, one of the most prominent wanted man is Abdul Wahid Siddibapa, an Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative and cousin of Yasin Bhatkal, who was arrested from Nepal in 2012. Siddibapa was detained in Abu Dhabi on the basis of a red-corner notice issued by India for his alleged role in the serial blasts in various parts of the country from 2006 to 2010. He is said to be the financial brain of the IM.

Another person on the extradition list is Sahul Hameed of Chennai, who is wanted in several cases of red-sanders smuggling in Telangana.

India reminded the UAE of at least 39 letters rogatory (letter of request for legal assistance issued by a court to a foreign court) pending with the Gulf nation. A follow-up was sought on the status of 192 suspects against whom red-corner notices have been issued at India’s behest.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, who accompanied Mr. Modi on the trip, is learnt to have raised the pending extradition requests. The UAE showed its willingness to cooperate in these cases, it is learnt.

The extradition treaty signed between India and the UAE in 1999 came into force in 2000. A Central Bureau of Investigation official confirmed that India had pursued the extradition requests.

Looks like another incident has been reported from Mangalore. A Muslim man was stripped to his undies, tied to an electric pole and beaten up. He is said to be accompanying/talking to/found in a car with a Hindu woman. May be some one from that area would be able to throw more light onto this. In Mangalore, such cases seems to be a regular occurrence, and perhaps there could be other factors which the media do not highlight.

Hindus have officially dipped below 80%. BRF called it. Interesting how Christians and Muslims are building up a huge reservoir of manpower. We are already seeing a migration of the Muslim vote to Islamist Parties. Christians are too small right now to follow the trend. If the current trends hold, I'll be alive to see hindus dip close to 60%.

The community will have to decide whether they want to integrate and throw out most of the Korans teachings or draw the battle lines w/ Hindus. If the latter, they'll regret it.

Mangalore area (including the tip of Kerala) has been 'volatile' for as far as I remember. It is not uncommon for Musl miscreants to throw severed cow heads into temples, or even demolish under construction tem places of religious worship. [I have family ties to that place, so this is what I hear from relatives in the area. I can't cite sources]. When such incidents happen, there is usually a bundh and some protests.

This is precisely the sort of fan-boi spin that has caused Shree Modi to spend nearly a decade, trying to fight being labeled as "a scheming villain out to get Indian muslims" by his detractors around the world.

There was no "spring cleaning" (implying a planned move) in Godhra, just law and order issues stemming from civic unrest. And there will be no such thing in Mangalore. Please dont manufacture rubbish that will later back-flush up the toilet and splash our collective backsides!

SC stays criminal proceeding against Italian marines

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday stopped criminal proceeding against two Italian marines till January 13.

The SC stopped proceedings after the Centre said that the government will have to abide by International tribunal's decision to suspend all proceedings in the case.

The court passed the order after the centre contended that an International tribunal has ordered India and Italy not to proceed in the case till it adjudicates the controversy on jurisdiction.

Additional Solicitor General P S Narasimha told a bench headed by Justice A R Dave that govt is bound by the order passed by the tribunal and court should also honour the court.

The court then passed the oder suspending all proceedings againt Marines till January 13 when it would take up the case.

The court however refused to adjourned the matter sine die as pleaded by Marines' counsel.
Italian marines, Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, are accused of killing two Kerala fishermen in 2012 after they apparently mistook them for pirates.

In a mixed ruling in the Italian marines' case, a UN tribunal on Monday asked India to stop all legal proceedings against the marines.

READ ALSO: UN tribunal asks India to stop court proceedings in Italian marines case

The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) also rejected Italy's demand for provisional release of the two marines. The tribunal asked both countries to submit their initial reports in the case on September 24.

"Italy and India shall both suspend all court proceedings and shall refrain from initiating new ones which might aggravate or extend the dispute submitted to the... arbitral tribunal or might jeopardize or prejudice the carrying out of any decision which the arbitral tribunal may render," the tribunal said.

India said it would abide by the tribunal's decision as a responsible member of the international community and as a party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

India, though, said the tribunal rejected both the measures sought by Italy - that India should refrain from taking or enforcing any judicial or administrative measures against the marines and from exercising any form of jurisdiction over the incident; and also for the return of Girone to Italy and continued stay of Latorre in Italy throughout the proceedings of the tribunal.

"While we are studying the judgment in detail, it is clear that the tribunal did not consider the two provisional measures sought by Italy to be appropriate as that would have pre-judged the merits of the case and would not have equally preserved the rights of both parties until the constitution of the Annex VII Tribunal under UNCLOS, which will decide the issue of jurisdiction," India said in a statement.

"The tribunal has instead prescribed a provisional measure in which both Italy and India should suspend all court proceedings and shall refrain from initiating new ones which might aggravate or extend the dispute submitted to Annex VII Tribunal or prejudice its decision on jurisdiction," it added.

The 21-member UN-mandated court located in Hamburg issued the order with 15 in favour and six against.

The 100% literate intellectuals (?) of the commie heaven, would now have to cook up new excuses to show how their brethren decided to join ISIS. All the while when Kerala did not have a fascist Modi led state government, or witnessed any major communal riots in which "seculars" got beaten up.
UAE-India diplomacy- ISIS sympathisers of Kerala origin deported

PS: A local daily had a small report which mentioned that RAW folks had made some enquiries about one man with his family and immediate neighbourhood. Perhaps, the RAW folks came visiting after these two chaps were deported, and taken in for questioning by RAW and other agencies. The deportation may have happened some time back.

These media morons seem to be gleeful that Gujarat unrest is going on -- much schadenfreude here, as if these MSM tools live in another country outside India.

Given woeful law enforcement and reaction time of the govt., and lack of resources etc, it makes sense for governments to cut off avenue for troublemakers like Harddick Patel to organize flash mobs and commit violence, as they did a few days ago and got 16 people killed.

The citizens of countries with more than 50% nuclear energy coming to India and protesting against nuclear. Why cant they protest in their own country if they have good intentions. Greenpeace foundation is not fighting for hydro energy but they are for Wind energy and Solar funded by these technology patented companies.

A TMC leader has been arrested by Malda police under Arms Act for alleged links with inter-state and inter-country weapons smuggling racket, apart from kidnapping, murder, rape and other offences. The West Bengal Police on Monday night arrested Sarjen Sheikh on allegations of committing several murders and committing anti-social activities. Superintendent of Malda Prasun Banerjee said, "We have arrested for his multiple criminal activities including murder, theft, snatching. We have found his links with inter-state and inter-country weapons smuggling racket, which is a very serious offence. This is why he has been sent to police remand."

Sarjen is a close aide and right-hand man of one Bakul Sheikh, who runs a gang in Malda. Bakul was the area president of Trinamool Congress. He has been associated with anti-social activities. Bakul operated a gang in which Sarjen was an active member. On Sunday, Bakul Sheikh was suspended for 10 years by Malda party president Moazem Hossain. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MLA from Raniganj in Burdwan district Sohrab Ali was today sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment by a court in Asansol on the charge of theft of railway iron scraps.

Two more persons were given identical punishment on the same charge by the Seventh Judicial Magistate's Court in Asansol.
