India-US Relations : News and Discussion
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
Where does the US stand with India?
By Nicholas Burns
Here are just a few, key questions Americans should want to hear Modi answer in the months ahead. Is he willing to retire India’s antique allegiance to nonalignment and reorient its future to a closer relationship with Washington on homeland security, counter terrorism, and military cooperation? Will he work more closely with the United States than the previous Congress-led government on some of the tough problems of the Middle East — Iran and the struggle against ISIS and a recalcitrant Syrian government? Will New Delhi continue to be a spoiler on global trade?

Just to clarify, the violence against Skihs was a reprehensible act.RajeshA wrote:"Khoon ke badle Khoon" simply means that for all those hurt in 1984 pogrom, any blood donation from one side would be met by a blood donation from the other side as well!vivek.rao wrote:Even if AB said "Khoon ka badle, Khoon se karenge" twice, what's is problem with that? Isn't this dumb moron and dumb moronic courts in US are aware of something called Freedom of Speech? I have seen most courts not allowing prohibition of KKK marches and ACLU actually fighting on behalf of hate mongers since speech is fundamental.
I don't understand, what's wrong with blood donations?
If Amitabh had any hand direct or indirect funding or conspiracy, he has to punished.
But a freaking moron called Human Rights activist filing a case on him on the pretext of he said something objectionable on TV is a joke. I don't think this guy is put up by Obama or PB. This idiot wittingly or unwittingly has showed how idiotic courts are here.
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
Here? In US or India guruji? How US got jurisdiction over India ?
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
This is an old 19th century law which gave US courts jurisdiction over the whole universe. Still the summons have to be served. There is a Hague convention for serving summons (if service is not waived) in a foreign country. But I think the Indian Govt has to be requested to do the service. Good luck with that.

I meant US.Yagnasri wrote:Here? In US or India guruji? How US got jurisdiction over India ?

Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
May be we also need such a law to issue warrant on obomber then.
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
The S-REP for Af-Pak Dan F. has made a remark that "he is convinced" that India's rise is linked to normalization of ties with pakistan.
I'm convinced that Mr Dan F. is wrong and India's rise is dependent upon ABSOLUTELY ignoring Pak.
India should think that on the west it borders LeT, AQ, JuD and Jihadi terrorist army of Pakistan (Pakistan is not a country, see the name of our thread on Pakistan ).
Why do these "experts" believe that Pakistan is a normal country and when the Paki ambassador or Sartaz Aziz tells them that Pakistan wants to normalize relations with India, the Paki decision makers (read army) really want that?

Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
Quite frankly India division is based on stable non existence of Pakistan in its current state, I think Baluchistan needs its freedom and POk part of India. Sindh and Kyber Paktunwala also need to be separate countries
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
If I remember correctly, Indian Penal Code has extraterritorial applicability. Some one has to do some research and file some cases against some of these bozos, especially Indian citizens.Yagnasri wrote:May be we also need such a law to issue warrant on obomber then.
The summons by US courts have to be served I think within 120 days. Otherwise they expire.
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
In a US court anybody can file a Civil case against anybody in the world for any issues., This is also one of the reasons that US courts are fast. In n number of days this case will be over when summons are not served. So! This is a quick way to gain publicity by paying some fees at a local court i.e. "Judicial fees" and some dollars to some attorney who writes up the case.
For a US court this is nothing but a money making endeavor.
People file cases at the drop of the hat i.e.
1. Somebody was pissing on my property.
2. Somebody abused my right of speech.
3. Somebody threw something at me.
4. blah blah blah
These types of cases should be ignored!! otherwise you are serving the original purpose of the plaintiff (of gaining publicity)

I wonder why they are keen to expand. Can gurus shed some light on what they do? I am concerned about their potential for mischief.Brookings India keen on presence in Chennai - K. Venkataramanan, The Hindu
Strobe Talbott, former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, and president of Brookings Institution, is of the view that governments are now quite open to independent inputs on policy matters, providing a platform for think tanks to make a difference in a democracy.
“The rationale for a think tank for a great democracy is the same in India as it is in the U.S.,” Mr. Talbott said in a conversation with The Hindu on Wednesday. The best ideas, he said, came from those who were objective and free to voice their views.
“Think tanks provide an environment in which high quality independent thinking can be turned into pragmatic recommendations for those in government and leadership in society,” he said. They could provide a forum for a constructive debate on public policy.
Mr. Talbott, who served in the Clinton Administration, visited the office of The Hindu, along with his colleagues from Brookings India, for an interaction with journalists and researchers in The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy.
Brookings wants to evolve from a national to a global institution. And within a year and a half of its presence in New Delhi, Brookings India is keen on a presence in Chennai.
Mr. Talbott explained that one would not get the full picture about a diverse country like India if one looked at it from only one location. Besides the importance of the Chennai perspective, the vibrancy of the private sector was also a factor in the institution’s keenness to have a presence here.
Vikram Mehta, chairman of Brookings India, said research at the institution was aimed at making a positive impact on policy-making.
Earlier, former National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan, and Director (Research) of Brookings India, Subir Gokarn, joined Mr. Talbott and Mr. Mehta in an interaction on Indo-U.S. relations and trade.

Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
We have to understand that Tamilnadu was always a place to launch a serious anti Indian drive. Brits did before 1947 with justice party. Now Khan is looking for a 21st century Justice party. After Khajri failure at Delhi they are now going south where in Indics are politically weak as of now.Sridhar K wrote:On Brookings in Chennai, also take into account hillary clinton was cosying up to Amma
Just add up - 1. Nizamic Telangana, 2. EJ AP, 3. EJ plus peaceful Kerala, 4. Peaceful plus EJ plus Dravidian TN, 4. Nobel to Indian, Gora head of Mafia. 5. Khejri. 6. Peacefuls in WB doing peaceful things 7. Cow belt plus east under Jayachadri rulers.
Positive side - new Peshwa in MH, Indics West, North and at Delhi. National consulidation of Indics. Greater understanding of the peaceful threat. ( EJ also to some extant) Karnataka remaining great remaining hope in the south. CBN doing his bit in AP. Hindi belt soon fall to Indic forces. WB is ripe for
It also shows that there is the third independence straggle now on in India gurus. It is now against scums who are on the gora pay role, against the poverty and leftist forces stopping the wealth creation.
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
Chennai is a curious place, but what is significant is that both opposition and ruling parties which rule the state by turn are hopelessly proven corrupt. And thus there will be strong undercurrent of civil dissatisfaction.arshyam wrote:Meanwhile, back at the ranch...I wonder why they are keen to expand. Can gurus shed some light on what they do? One only has to look at its output, and the list of its members to realise that the Brookings is an organisation that has a history of contempt and hostility towards India and should only be allowed to operate in India under the strictest of oversight and after paying a stiff fee. Recent revelations have highlighted that many of these groups are funded by middle eastern groups and the PRC to peddle disinformation and lies. The Brookings like the Ford Foundation, whose personnel still have diplomatic immunity does not serve India's interests and therefore is not accountable to the people of india. It should also be apparent that Strobe Talbott seems keen on creating a Madras Presidency, that will be influenced and controlled by the Brookings set.

OT but relevant to discussions above.
The eastern coast in fact has seen unprecedented EJ activity in the last years. Kundankulam was just testing their ability it appears.
TN coast , Andhra Coast, Orissa Coast ...stretching all the way to Mizoram/Tripura.
Is this the famed Chankian strategy of taking down a large country by first weakening those farthest from the centre of power? Looks like.

Related news: Amit Shah made is clear that TN is his next target.
Here is an opportunity: "Sooth TN" people who are against BJP have a good chance now to declare their exodus from "Sooth TN" should BJP win X number of seats.

I too think so, given the enormous cultural moorings people have to their customs here. And tell them that they can't go to a Shiva or Murugan temple - the evangelicals will hit a wall. Sooner or later. ^^ Does East Timor ring a bell?
Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
East Timor is a wrong example. It was a country that was granted independence by the colonial power. Was later annexed by Indonesia and was later granted independence after a long struggle for independence. Which lasted the entire duration Indonesian occupation. Under a UN supervised referendum. In the year 1997.
Incidentally, both the US & UK supported the Indonesian govt during the takeover of East Timor by Indonesia. As Indonesia was a MUNNA during that time against communists.
The fact the East Timor is 80% + christian since colonial days is not really relevant.

Re: India-US Relations : News and Discussion
Massa meeting JJ and Mamta has to do with getting leverage over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as these border states have a big say in people to people relations and exert influence in foreign policy by influencing media discourse. Besides, as long as SL Tamil issue remains unsolved, there will be disappointment and mass resentment amongst a large section of TN populace that can be fanned with exaggerated propaganda. Given the history of Dravidian movement which in its infancy was seditious but later moved to mainstream, lot of people will want to fish in troubled waters. Equating grandiose dreams of some EJ fanatics with official US policy without any proof is just a wild CT. That is not to say US would not want to muddle the pond in TN and fish in troubled waters. Any fault line they could exploit gives them larger leverage in dealing with India. On the other hand, with pivot to Asia and looming CN threat, there is nothing to suggest that US would not want to see a united stronger India that would be a counter weight to CN. The ideal India from US perspective would be financially strong and united but be a US munna. Divided India would probably be Plan B or C.
On a similar note, even CN has had lot of focus on TN- they have been training several dozens of Chinese - Tamil translators and run a relatively good Tamil radio channel for a long time. One of these "forced to study Tamil by Govt" translators who was of Tibetan ethnicity eventually ended up moving to Massaland and married a Tamil guy! She talked about scale of that effort several years ago but I dont remember the details.

Use of such unnecessary demeaning terms to describe a section of Indian population based on ethnic reasons reduces the credibility of the commentor. You can argue and indulge in semantic hair splitting that it is not all TN people that you are insulting but only the section that fit certain critiera, etc. But to an observer of your posts it seems you are insulting all Tamils.

Kerry Cites Modi Visit To Show New Diplomatic Challenges
http://www.siliconindia.com/news/genera ... cid-1.html
http://www.siliconindia.com/news/genera ... cid-1.html
Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's U.S. visit, Secretary of State John Kerry says U.S. diplomacy faces new challenges in a globalised world with countries flexing their muscles and standing up for their own interests.""
A lot of countries have economic power today that they didn't have in the last century... and they're feeling their oats," "he said in an interview Thursday with The Atlantic at the Sixth Annual Washington Ideas Forum.
With more and more nations unwilling to accept "the behemoth United States, superpower of the world, telling us all the time what we have to do" Kerry said the "American power needs to be projected thoughtfully and appropriately."
"It requires more dialogue. It requires more respect for people, more mutual interest finding," he said suggesting the situation was more like "back towards the latter part of the 19th century or even 18th century in dealing with countries."
Countries are flexing their muscles and standing up for their own interests and they have some greater economic independence and ability to do it.""
"And then you see the BRICS - Brazil, Russia China, India - standing up and saying -- we want something - a different access, in a sense," he said.
"So we have to work harder at it. And my warning to the Congress and to the country is, really, this doesn't come for free," Kerry said.
He then cited the visit of Modi, who came to the US after going to China and Japan getting billions of dollars for infrastructure development, but didn't get much from US.
Prime Minister Modi from India came here the other day. He came after going to China and going to Japan, both of whom gave him double-digit numbers of billions of dollars for infrastructure development," Kerry said.
China, I think, did 30 billion; Japan did somewhere similar," he said lamenting, "We couldn't even do a USD 1 billion loan guarantee, the United States of America."
"Now everybody here ought to be shocked by that. We are behaving like we're the richest country on the face of the planet," he said."
"We're still critical to everything that happens in the world. And we are not sufficiently committing the resources necessary to do what we need to do in this world," Kerry said.
"So we've got to get our act together," Kerry said explaining the US rebalance with Asia with 40 percent of the global economy, "we're focused strategically on how do you play the long game here?"
"And the long game is raising the standards of trade, opening up more trade," he said.

From some mailing list,
some musicians hoping to sing in the US.Unfortunately, even though the Bihar Brothers' visa application was approved in a timely fashion by USCIS in the US, the interviewing officer in India declined to approve the visa application.
We very much regret having to cancel this very promising tour, but this decision by the U.S. Consular Office in India leaves us no choice. We hope to schedule another tour next fall.
