IAF STATION- LOHEGAON -0005 HRS

Chief station engineer Group captain Virendra sing was fuming . A light shower in the evening made the runway slippery and the air saghara flight from delhi did what it is never supposed to do and definitely not today -over shot the runway and lodged itself in the soft ground blocking up the main runwat for goo atleast for a couple of hours . Lifting it up with hydraulic screw jacks borrowed from the Dragons have proved futile . Now squadron leader patel have hitched four tractors to the nose wheel of the mud stuck B-737 and trying to pull it out . The massive earth mover stood ready to push it out of the runway fringe if Patels effort didnot bear fruit in another 30 minutes . It would be a big loss to the airlines or the insurance companies or whatever he thought maybe it will not come to that .
Inside the massive hangers the sukhois were getting ready too for the long escort mission ahead . Uploading the R-77 s were complete and the weapon dollies carrying the R-73 s were waiting their turn . A seperate group checked the Gasha alighnment for one last time and clipped in the 150 round box magazine in its assigned slot within the airframe fed in the belt lead into gun and locked it into place . Outside the long line of fuel tankers were on hold till ammo upload is complete .
The pilots apparently were not much involved in the arming process as they had a relaxed light dinner of chapatis chicken curry dahi and alu gobi
and lots and lots of water . Extended flights are always very dehydrating from the dry pure oxygen they would be breathing to the nervous tension of combat .By the time they will comeback most of them would loose about 1-1.5 kg of body wt mostly due to loss of water . A short nap and then to final ops briefing
IAF STATION JODHPUR - 015 HRS

Senior logistics officer Wing comander Bhargava cursed the technician who brought in the cheerful news that main fuel transfer pump used for transfering jet a from bulk storage tanks to transporters is leaking hevily and need to be shut down for a few hours . The standby pump is operational but due to sand inf=gestion in the suction filter has a comparitively reduced out put .Net ressult fuelling cycle extended by roughly 25 minutes . This meant weapon uploading should start immediately thought Bhargava as he picked up the intercom to chief engineers office .
The pilots moved around thier aircraft checking for any sign of hysraulic leakage or loose undercarraige locking pins and the cleanliness of the weapon pylons for cracks or deformity . Some doubtful ones were brought to the notice of the technicians and immediately attended to . None then showed any sign of fear but they knew quite a few of them will not be able to come back from perhaps the most risky mission of this war .
In the the adjoning hanger the USAF crews joned IAF technicians load upand arm the massive bunker busters onto Jaguars centre line pylon and complete the aircraft-weapon interfacing operation. At the same time with their personal hand held weapon diagonistic tool checked the internal wiring and sensors of each and every weapon so uploaded .It was a laborious process but ther was no short cut available .

USS NIMITZ - SOUTHERN ARABIAN SEA

A strong wind from south east built up suddenly as the large turbo prop got commited to land flaps down and under carriage out .Thelanding systems officer had no clue what hit the comparitively stable aircraft as the hawk eye got violently thrown around in the ensuing wind shear .Lt comander Reynold did what he was trained to do applied full power and pushed the undercarraige level u for a take off and go around but the turbulant bow wind robbed him of the lift and the hawkeye crashed hard on the flight deck with the undercarraige collapsing under its weight because of the earlier retract command and tangled up with the 4 line of heavy duty arrestor wires in an unseemly mess . Fire tenders rushed at covered the aicraft in foam as the visibly shaken pilot and his crew came out of the emrgency exit one by one .

All flight ops were suspended for the time being .
Hornets low on fuel on were diverted to Carl vinson for recovery and refueling and will join the carrier group only after several hours .
The B-52 s were without escort whcih were supposedto join them west of srilanka which was not a serious threat area but then too much was at stake .

Almost 1/2 the sea harrier squadron took ro air on reciept of the SOS from USS Nimitz .Four of them flew south wards to intercept the projected flight path of incomming heavy bombers and would escort them all the way into indian air space and the rest took over standard combat air patrol duty over the jont carrier task force . The protective screen was may be not what the USN is used too but then at that moment it was accepted with heartfelt thanks .

Col Tim did not react ,a vetern of many missions over Iraq and Afganistan goof ups were nothing new to him and like all seasoned pilots i strtegic air force he took the new piece of information in his stride a hemade the nessecery course changes to his second way point . Simultaneously he also pulled back o the throttle afew notches to reduce power to 80% max to conserve fuel and bleed off a little of the air speed .

The giant 24 bomber formation folowed the leader in silence and reformed at lower altitude and reformed to resume their long journey north .
Col Tm looked out atthe wings of the giant bomber at almost 160ft they were impresive but not very good looking as was his aircraft . Affectinately called by those who fly her as Buff or bad ugly fat fellow she had seen service for more than 50yrs from vietnam to afganistan with a very few lost in combat . A total of 744 were built out of which a total of 94 are now in service .The thin aluminium skin looks wrinkled when unpressurised and only when presurised and at altitude look like a normal aircraft surface .
The B-52 H was essentially designed for strategic missions which in plain terms means drop nuclear bombs and later on air launched cruise missiles when it was considered not safe for the large bomber to penetrate the heavily defended soviet air space . The forward looking infrared sensitive camera and ultra low light tv camera makes it an accurate all weather weapo delivery platform and the 25000 kgs weapon load makes it very effective at that. With a fuel capacity approximately 180000 ltrs allows it an unparalled unrefuelled range and its eight Pratt and whitney engines providing 17000 lb thrust each gives it an agility not normally seen in heavy bombers of this class .

The lightly damaged B-737 was at last extricated from soft mud after air bags borrowed from air force stores were inflated up and four tractors pulled togetther to get her onto the tarmac . She once again taxied under her own power to the civilian parking apron and went into extensive check . The mess on runway was being quickly hosed out as the Su -30 pilots started thier preflight check and then strapping the sleek but large interceptor to thier back .
Some distance away the radar intercept officer could now locate the large green blips indicating the approaching B-52 s .He noted they have already split up into four seperate smaller but more managable strike groups and he designated them condor alpha -condor beta-condor charlie-condor delta and passed on the new desination to the senior air trafic controller on duty at the control tower .
The flankers looked awe some with 14 air to air missiles each 6 R-77 extended version and 8 `R73 s in double launchers it looked they can take on the entire pakistani air force if need be (which to some extent was true ) . The sixteen Su-30 mki s were indeed a formidable air dominance capability about to be launched into combat to protect the unprotected B-52 s from whatever remained of pakistani airforce if they should so decide the chalenge them .
PHALCON FLIGHT -100 KMS EAST OF UDAIPUR-0205 hrs

Air commodore T bhasin looke on the radar scope . Even though outside his "official " detection and control range he could clearly make out the american bombers in four seperate flight groups flying 110 kms west of Dabolim navy base at flt level 400 .Brig Steve USAF was also watching the formation intently . The ATC communication from lohegaon was put on the speaker phone . Since the flankers would launch in east west direction towards Mumbai ther was no danger of foul up with the Buffs during initial climb out but still he felt it will be better if the horizanral seperation is increased some what .Brig Steve concurred .
- Condor flight-phalcon 1 turn right 060 maintain flight level 400 -acknowledge

- Roger that Phalocon 1 -turning right 060-flt level 400 .
Col tim selected the intra plane frequency and passed on the instruction to his team . All the 24 B-52 s diped thier wings in unison and started the slow turn to starboard all controlled by onboard navigational computers and watched carefully by the navigator bombardiers . At leat for this part of the flight the pilots didnot have much to do except stre at the bank of instruments and ofcourse the dark sky outward

The tedious process of fuelling up the large formation was atlast over and the weapon technicians strarted loading up the floggeres with air to ground ammo mainly 500 kg iron bombs , 57 mm rockets, a few of them with LGB s and 300 round box magazine for the six barreled Gasha .About a quarter of them also carried standard russian anti-radar missiles and cluster bombs to take out the manpads and trpple a batteries .It was hectic like always .

)Things you should consider about making a comment like that-:
1)The impact time after launch could be as less as 4 minutes.Reaction time..during the Cold War between US and USSR the impact time was around 28 mins.
2)What about the radiation leak even if we intercept it
3)ARROW II deployment and efficiency.
4)What if they are able to sneak even one missile...if they launch ,I am sure they won't just launch one,giving us a second strike opportunity.
Arrow or the Akash may be PAC-3 should be there as a back up if they are able to sneak one missile through.
Only thing ,I would probably like be added in this is the Israeli contribution or atleat a briefing from a Israeli's on the mission,since they have been planning such a raid for ages.
Also my friend if you have been following Shanker's plot, we are not relying on the US ,we are teaming up with them for a common cause.

Squadron leader Imtiaz khan looked at the monitors showing usal war time activity ,nothing unusal as yet .The skies over pakistan were unusally quite for the last few days barring few probing strikes by IAF mig 21 near kahuta and chakla and a single strike by by a four aircraft mirage 2000 formation to Peshwar which caused limited damage to the airfield .Something just didnot seem right thought he as he pushed up the power setting to max for an extended search .
PHALCON 1 50 KM NORTH OF UDAIPUR -0230 HRS

Squadron leader Dinesh scrolled down the platform status monitor as the two generals discussed the comming mission including a basic change in attack philosophy . The list on his screen and their status looked impressive by and standard and he would not have traded placeswith those poor pakistanis at this moment even if he is offered the 2 crores by Amitabh himself.
As he confirmed the establishment of secured encrypted data link between the Phalcon and the individual ATC as well as the aircrafts on ground in multiple bases a massive force came under the direct command of the two generals aboard . Never seen since gulf war 2 it was a formidable force indeed.

USS CARL VINSON -0300 HRS - 13O KMS FROM KARACHI

It was still dark but the darkness seems to have brightened up somewhat on eastern horizon thoght Lt commander Jack as he strpped himself on to the super hornet arguable the best carrier borne aircraft in the world in terms of payload and avionics but in a dogfight may be the Mig 29k s will have the advantage
Just infront the dirty green jacketed catapult technicians were busy hooking up the nose wheel tie bar to the catapult hook as the jet blast deflector came up on triple hydraulic arms at 70 degree to flight deck so that the hot exhuast from the twin engines is led away and up from the restrained jet . The cat officer signalled engine start and Jack pushed on the ignition buttons first left and then right and then slowly pushed up the throttle to full and then into reheat zone . Engine tachmeter rapidly climbed to near red and exhaust temperature at 92% max . The cathooked took the thrust and bent a little .The slight deflection measured by the computer and it released the wheel restraint . The air speed indicator jumped to 100-150 175 knots and tthe de ck vibrations suddenly died off . As he got squeezed into the ejection seat at almost 4g force of the catpult launch Jack stred straight ahead unblinking for the moment of lift off -took control and allowed the heavy aircraft to fly for a few second level as the air speed indicator crossed 230 knots he slapped the undercarriage up and gently rolled the hornet in a shallow climbing turn at 500 ft he retracted the flaps and his wing man formed up on him as they both dove for the deck ,barely 50 ft over the wave tops they raced for the coastline at 600 knots . There was no time to talk
PN SHAJAHAN -KARACHI NAVAL DOCK YARD

LT Kader was bored as he fiddled with the contrls of his radar scope aboard PN Shajahan on patrol duty outside karachi harbour He decided to have a smoke -nothing much was happening anyway .
He was dead wrong ,as he stepped out the jet blast of Jacks hornet shook the ship as he tore northwards to his designated strike grid unmindful of the lone pakmistani destroyer which some what came into his ingress path and not detected . Jack reported to comander air group and also strike comand aboard Phalcon 1 .
Kader rushed in to his UHF tranciever and screamed out the warning -but is was too little and too late . For all his bravery he will get shann e pakistan award (posthumously) . Asingle Mig 29K on CAP recieved its target co-ordinates and launched 2 sea eagle anti ship missiles within 5 minutes . This was folowed by 4 more of the same type launched by the 2 seakings immdiately . The striken aged pakistani destroyer went down slowly with all hands aboard most of them sleeping without knowing what hit them .

.How come anyone make the two entirely different systems to met with each other?CVNs have four catapults two waist and two bow. in a rush they can launch one a/c every 20 secs, then a few mins to attach four more waiting a/c and send them out. F18 launch has always been fully automatic and hands-off, pilot just sits tight until a.c climbs to a certain state...the F14 had stick takeoff and was much more scary per pilots.

The modifications of Mig 29k for launching sea eagles were done by the same engineering group who did the modification work in Mirage 2000s pylons to enable it launch R-73 . When the mig 29 k s were ordered indian navy still had a sizable inventory of sea eagles and comparitively derby stock was somewhat low .The work entailed essentially replacing the center line pylon designed for launcing R-77 extended version with an existing pylons from sea harriers and then rewiring the data feed and ignition cicuitry interface including incorporation of certain power transformers in the Migs circuitry to enable it launch sea eagles . The detonation was not very spectacular since there was nothing to explode exceot the bombs itself which made an impressive crater on the tower base as the whole column toppled into dust disintegrating in the process . That was a big mistake as the snap rolled out of engagement zone crossed the mirage with a horizantal seperation less than 500ft and then lit the afterburner in a classic tail chase scenario . The climbing mirage soon ran out of air speed and as hamid tried to recover from a near stall and reduced his angle of attack to almost level flight flying squarely into the gunsight of flanker . A very short less than one second burst
and the 30 mm shells at nearly 2000 rounds per inute firing rate ripped open the filmsy mirage airframe and the fuel drenched aircraft floated down in a firey ball ending in a muted explossion as the fuel tak

2000 lb bombs are cheap in fact cheaper than hamburger and USAF had no shortage as they rained down over the uranium milling complex flawless directed at their individual target by the refelected laser beam and moved by the short fins attached to thier backside - begining of thew end of pakistani nuclear ambition started in a spectacular way . The capacity of enriched uranium or more specificaly U-235 95%+ purity is entirely dependent on no of centrifuges operating at any specific period of time and reports say about 1000 centrifuges are added every 5 yrs or so .Translated to real terms and assuming about 18 kg of enriched uranium is required for a 20kt fission weapon pakistan started with a production capacity of 2 weapns per year and later on increased it in stages to 6-8 weapons per year by late 2005 with about 5000 ultra centrifuges operating.
Uranium as mined from earth contains essentially two isotopes U-235 and U-238 in the rough ratio of 99.3 to0.7 varying from source to source marginally. U-235 need to be enriched or cencentrated to 95% +level before it can be of any use in any fission weapon. The physical difference in atomic mass between U-235 and U-238 is the basic property on which any uranium enrichment process operates . From the mines uranium is usally available in form of uranium oxide wich is then converted to uranium hexa fluride prior to enrichment process. This is a long process where uranium oxide is reduced by hydrogen to form uranium di oxide which then made to react with hydrogen fluride to form uranium tetrafluride and then into a fludised bed reactor and made to react with flurine gas to produce uranium hexafluride .Uranium hexa fluride is highly corrosive when moist that is containg water vapour as contaminant and as such maximum care is taken to keep it dry its dew point usally below minus60 deg c .The dry uranium hexafluride gas is coled under pressure to liquid form and filled into heavy duty stainless steel cylinders where it solidifies into white crystaline solid
The enrichment process used in kahuta is a second generation seperation process by which the lighter U-235 is seperated from heavier U-238 and compared to alternate gas diffusion enrichment process more power economic though some what capital and maintainance intensive. The capacity of enrichment plants of this type is usally measured in seperative work units and is a function of amount of raw uranium processed and degree to which it is enriched. For example a gaseous diffussion unit consumes about 2500 kwh of energy per per seperative work unit while a modern gas centrifuge system will consume only 50kwh of power for the same level of production .
The uranium hexa fluride gas is fed into a series of vacuum tubes each containg a rotor about 1.5/1.7 mtr long and just over 15cm in dia . The rotors operate at very high speed of nearly 75000 revolutions per minute much higher than a conventional centrifuge (30000) rpm) the heavier U-238 isotopes drift towards outer edge by centrifugal force and consequently the lighter U-235 isotopes gets concentrated near the centre or in other words ge enriched . The concentration change by application of such large centrifugal force is further enhanced by axial injection of fresh feed gas near centre. The enriched gas from stage one goes to next centrifuge for further enrichment while the gas from outer periphery containing more of the heavier isotope goes back to previous stage.The centrifuges are arranged in cascade and approximately 20 stages are required minimum as in Kahuta.

Wing comander srinath strapped himself into the ejection seat with some discomfort as his tall frame found it a little difficult to get in but once seated and strapped it was ok of sorts .Cold desert air blew in thru the open canopy and the ground crew started plugging in the starter cart .The order to initiate engine start came within a few minutes and as pressed slightly on the ignition switch and the ground cart roared the powerful engine started with a rumble and groan and the standard spurt of unburnt jet fuel . As he closed the canopy and powered up the avionics circuit breakers the screens and guages came alive . All along the line 5 other Mig 27s did the same and first strike mission to Kahuta got ready to fly.

As he steered the aerdynamic striker on the runway the ground speed had a tendency to jump over 40 km/hr the max permitted with ful weapon load and he had to step on the brakes hard on few occassions . On the first taxi way intersection he could see the 6 jaguars lined up and waiting for runway clearence as he passed by and reached the main runway 14

Srinath stepped on the brakes and for one last time checked on the guages ,wings set at 16 deg for take off, exhaust temperature normal,all weapon stations ok , fuel load max allowed and head wind 20 km/hr not unusal for a desert air base as his practised hand smoothly moved the power lever from idle to max military power setting .The flogger dipped acknowledgement and then released of the brake pressure started accelerating down the runway fast even with the full weapon load and against a strong head wind -as the air speed built up the controls started comming alive in his hand and he had to really concentrate to keep the bird along the centre line -pulled back at 185 knots and pulled up the undercarriage lever the moment the altimter started scrolling down confirming a positive rate of climb. The vibration died down but the noise remained somewhat .Srinath loved his aircraft and the engineers who made it but why the hell didnot use better accoustic insulation thought he as the throbbing noise of single turbfan in full reheat penetrated even thru his earplugs -altitude 500-1000-1500-1550-1600 mtrs
as he leveled out at 5000ft the voice of phalcon commander came on the tac net

Srinaths target was the long range radar warning station Chaklala -the heart of pakistani air defense command ,which had to be neutralised at leat for a few hours if the mission to kahuta is to succeed.

The five others followed in a single line with a horizantal seperation of 500 ft and vertical seperation less than 25 ft . They were practically invisible from all pakistani long range radars and till they come within the range of some of the fly catchers their only treat would be from air from the mirages and falcons and to some extent even form f-7 s but that was some one elses problem thought Srinath as he pushed the sleek machine along the ground .
Up above the 12 mig 29s from pathan kot took up a text book top cover mision getting live data feed from phalcon controller and ready to intercept anything that may threaten the floggers flying so periliously close to ground and perhaps the riskiest mission of the war so far .

Teaming up with US is remote possibility, best to our imagination. If we r incapable to stop their ballistic missiles from frying us. Then we shouldn't think of attacking their nuclear facilities. They sure must hv hidden some nuclear missiles and after the destruction of their nuclear facilities. They are going for nuclear strike, and only and I repeate only if we hv system to stop their missiles, that we will survive. Otherwise we shud wait till we hv such system, then think of their nuclear facility destruction. Don't rely on US for support.

And you think the GOI and Indian Military does not know that?? The only real threat would be their mobile Missiles. Yes hard to locate but not Impossible. We already have S-300 system for ABM system (if I am not mistaken). Even if they still manage to laungh a nuclear strike then pakistan will be a big nuclear wasteland. I do not think they will risk it. Also we do have remote sensing capabilities and preparing for nuclear strike is not that easy to conceal.

Group captain Ayub looked down from his elevated platform at the mass of radar monitors scanning the sky for any hostile air intrussion . The mig 29s from pathankot was spotted without much difficulty and he picked up his intercom to 4 falcons on operation ready platform . As the falcons thundered into sky to intercept the intruders 4 more of the few remaining falcons strted their preflight and were expected to join the earlier four in 5 minutes time .
The indian tactics of of drawing out the ready interceptors by going overtly visual on long range radar was working really well .meanwhile Ayub was not at all aware at the 6 floggers streaking inlow and very fast towards his mobile command centre unerringly directed by the all watching eyes of phalcon 1
The pakistans integrated air defense comand was formed in 75 and has the primary responsibility of monitoring ,control and co ordination of all aerial activities withing its air space. All the elements of air defense from manned interceptors to surface to air missile units and the numerous anti aircraft guns which dot the coutry side around kahuata nuclear centre included. While the main command centre is underground right under the hard shelters of falcons at a depth of nearly 7 mtrs a few more satelite command centres also operate taking its cue from the same battery of long range search radars and a couple of low altitude radars having some what smaller range of detection .
The long range radar system which was at the very moment giving its feed to the command centre consisted essentially of
-FPS 89/100 located 10 km south and 15 km east of chaklala
- Type 514 chinese system located 5 kms east of kahuta
- Condor a high end british system located 7 km south Rawalpindi
- TPS 43G US radar system with a range of approx 350 kms 12 kms east of kahuta
- Thomson CSF air trafic control radar located at islamabad international airport and acts mainly as an early wrning radar .
Grid coordinates of all thes installations werealready entered in the floggers attack computer and a single 2000 kg laser guided bombs were earmarked for each of them . Even if all were not destryed considerable gap will definitely be created for the subsequent flogger strike to exploit and widen . That was the broad game plan for the first strike mission .
The second wave of floggeres were scheduled to take off the low level radars consisting of
AR-1 155 range 150 km
MPDR 45/60/90 km range arayed in rough pentagon formation 5 kms radius around rawalpindi /kahuta .
The kahuta nuclear complex is also densely covered by a dense network of surface to air missiles mainly Croatle 2000/and 3000 with a few launchers of croatle 4000. These are perhaps the most deadly threat to any strike force and have a very low reaction time .It was earmarked for the flogger flight 4 and 5
The last flogger flight was earmarked for runway attack for the three main air bases that protect kahuta namely -chkalala ,sargodha and masrror (karachi )
All to be done in the space of 30 minutes and then the infantry already on air can get down and do the needful .It was an ambitious plan but then that what indian airforce always was.

-grizzly 3.5 6 climb to 15000 mtrs -close up on me ,spoke suri onthe interpalne frequency ah he put the fulcrum on a sharp climb and closed in for the kill
The falcon flight fell for the bait and started climbing in the process loosing valuable air speed and increasing the time to intercept giving the flankers all the time position and launch the first attack. 4 R 77 dropped from inside wing pylons and raced on towrds the target in a lazy arc
-missile inbound -beak break -comanded squadron leader Hasan put his F-16 in a banking dive away from the tragetory of incomming missles ,the automated chaff flare dispensers releasedfew packets of aluminised mylar in the slipstream .
Two of the 4 falcons were not so lucky as the r-77s tracked on them mercilessly and converted the two shiny jets into smoky fireballs high up in the sky without remorse .
The fulcrums were now at a disadvantage as the falcons tuned into their tails and released 2 aim 9x each at the four fulcrums .The focal plane array controlled imaging infrared seeker missiles took off the port wing of the suris wing man boring straightthru the cloud of flares and he cartwheeled all the way to ground trailing unburnt fuel and hydraulic fluid . In the distance another fire ball signified death of another mig 29 who tried toget away fromthe deadly 9x by going vertical on after burners .
Suri dived rolled out of dive at 500 ft and looped up at the first falcon launched a straight shot of r-73 up its tail pipe continued his loop and launched at the second falcon at his 4 oclock in a classic off bore sight shot thru his helmet mounted sight. Afew seconds later the sky was clear -at least for the time being

These are perhaps the most deadly threat to any strike force and have a very low reaction time .It was earmarked for the flogger flight 4 and 5
The last flogger flight was earmarked for runway attack for the three main air bases that protect kahuta namely -chkalala ,sargodha and masrror (karachi )
All to be done in the space of 30 minutes and then the infantry already on air can get down and do the needful .It was an ambitious plan but then that what indian airforce always was.

-grizzly 3.5 6 climb to 15000 mtrs -close up on me ,spoke suri onthe interpalne frequency ah he put the fulcrum on a sharp climb and closed in for the kill
The falcon flight fell for the bait and started climbing in the process loosing valuable air speed and increasing the time to intercept giving the flankers all the time position and launch the first attack. 4 R 77 dropped from inside wing pylons and raced on towrds the target in a lazy arc
-missile inbound -beak break -comanded squadron leader Hasan put his F-16 in a banking dive away from the tragetory of incomming missles ,the automated chaff flare dispensers releasedfew packets of aluminised mylar in the slipstream .
Two of the 4 falcons were not so lucky as the r-77s tracked on them mercilessly and converted the two shiny jets into smoky fireballs high up in the sky without remorse .
The fulcrums were now at a disadvantage as the falcons tuned into their tails and released 2 aim 9x each at the four fulcrums .The focal plane array controlled imaging infrared seeker missiles took off the port wing of the suris wing man boring straightthru the cloud of flares and he cartwheeled all the way to ground trailing unburnt fuel and hydraulic fluid . In the distance another fire ball signified death of another mig 29 who tried toget away fromthe deadly 9x by going vertical on after burners .
Suri dived rolled out of dive at 500 ft and looped up at the first falcon launched a straight shot of r-73 up its tail pipe continued his loop and launched at the second falcon at his 4 oclock in a classic off bore sight shot thru his helmet mounted sight. Afew seconds later the sky was clear -at least for the time being
In the days to come indian airforce will go over this particular engagement very closely to identify the lapses and to ensure this is not repeated again . But all said and done their enquiry will not yield any conclussive reason behind thes losses since most of the evidence will never be recorded including gun camera video tapes of the lost Mig 29s . In short following conclussions will be arrived at

To summarise just like all odern air combats this was also played out on the thin boundary of that lies between within and beyond visual range .The first strike by migs were text book perfect so was the evasive moves by the falcons which helped preserve some of their strength .The counterstrike bt falcons was again the way it should have been since the migs in their adsk to finish of the combat in the same forward closure rate flew into a situation loaded in favour of falcons . The outcome could not have been anything else
It would also be analysed why the senior controller on board Phalcon 1 did not intervene to break of the engaement after after launch of first salvo by migs and re position them for a second strike from bvr range since all them were still carring one more r-77 and other 3 flights were near by . No satisfactory answer will come out of this querry except the controller thought that withdrawing the mig 29s from engagement at that stage of battle would have exposed the vulnerable MIG 27 strike packages to F-16 s which would have been very very expensive
But all these would be a game of future -now the battle was far from over -the mistakes made and lessons learnt by all concered in
a matter of few very long seconds .

Wing commander srinath once again tightened his straps and then aimed at the target somewhere ove rthe horizon as he pushed the wing sweep lever to its max sweep position and the wings moved back to max sweep angle of 72 degree for mas speed strike run and exit from target zone .Srinaths left hand nudged the the throttlr lever all the way forward and rest of the mig 27 formation took up thier staggered strike position at pre selected targets as srinaths aircraft zoomed up to 5000 ft and strreaked like an arrow to its target -the air defense command centre of pakistan .
- the radar screens inthe undergorond command centree lit up as the all the six mig 27s were spotted almost at the same time about 10 seconds out and launch command to croatle batteries issued - 4 seconds lost-the croatles swung on thier motorised mountls and target aquistion- 4 more seconds -missile launch -2 seconds as the mig 27s flashed overhead dropping thier deadly cargo of 2000 kg bombs on the command centre ,on the six launchers arranged ina semi circular pattern in groups of two ,the battery of anti aircraft guns interspaced between the sam launchers and exited before even the bombs have started exploding on the groud below . Two mig 27s would not make it back both shot during egress fro target area one by a croatle sam and the other by zsu 23 2 rapid fire anti aircraft gun as they flew directly over it.

The second flight of mig 27s came in low and fast .With pakistani defenders still dazed by the first strike and radars down they had no warning as the floggers dropped thir load of parachute retarded500 kgcluster bombs on whatever reamined in the airfield complex but savingthemain 10000 ft runway (it will be required later) and that included the secondary mobile radars which have just started unfurling thier dishes out of camaflage nets and their crews getting the generators started up to make up for the loss of survilanc capability in the first strike.
The third flight of the floggers took the hard shelters with 1000 kgs laser guided bombs they methodically hit the aircraft shelters lining the main runway one at time . Secondary explossion was seen in most of them confiring presence of armed and fuelled aircraft inside . The last two aircraft of this package finally unloaded their napalm canisters and nearly 6 tons of thick petroleum jelly covered the likely hide out for stinger teams and then ignited in aloud whoosh incinerating any unlucky soul still inside the coverings .
A hole has been ounched in the pakistani air defense network. A window of opperunity for a few hours have been created by the brave pilots of indian airforce some whom have given thier lives to achieve the objective . And finally the real mission was a go

F-16A firing aim-9x surelly means they must have been upgraded.Also 4 to 2 loss is not that bad as PAF f-16's numbers are far below that of the mig-29's.

Sq leader Abhijeet walked on to the aluminium ladder and into the cramped cockpit of his much flow speecat jaguar. Apart from the short range heat seking matra magic on typical overwing pylons the only weapon it carried in the centre line pylon was single GBU 28 specifically designed for pentrating the hardened bunkers in this case they were to be used as "can openers" to create an opening in the fissile material storage area of kahuta underground complex so that the joint special forces team can get the stuff out quickly and with minimum resistance from inside .Since the warheads and fissile material drums rae reinforced and kept in a seperate stainless steel vault the chances of acciedental detonation was very remote even insignificant as per nuclear experts in the loop.
As he strapped him self in the familiar cockpit gave him confidence to carry out this very very difficult and risky mission ,getting into well defended airspace at less than 50 ft and at nearly supersonic speed ,delivering the ordanance with pinpoint accurace at target well concealed and finally trying to get out alive if possible. He knew fulcrums are already in postion and Mirages from gwalior will come in back up if the situation turns really hairy but still it was total dependence on other pilots in their so called air defense aircraft or air dominance aircraft as the sukhoi boys like to consider theirs and this feeling of dependence gave his a sinking feeling in the gut .
The starter cart plugged in ,liquid oxygen guage showed full as he powered up the avionics and the guages came alive . On his rotaing hand signal the starter cart whine increase and his compressor strarted rotating at about 5% normal speed ,his left hand checked the small delicate anodised black throttle lever idle as his right hand checked the flap and tail movement one last time and then a small squeeze on the ignition button and the rolls royce engines came to life with a throaty cough and then settled onto a steady roar as his right hand sqeezed on the ignition switch for the second engine ,the air shimmered behind and the dark night behind was covered in an orange glow ,steped on the brake -checked safety pin off the martin baker ejection seat ,one quick look at the neat row weapon station selectors on his right all safely covered by individual yeallow black hard plastic protectors -engine rpm 10% ,he stepped on the brake and his left hand slid the power lever forward by a few cms into active thrust zone and the twin engines roared in unison confirming their readiness to fly and to fight ,slid back the throttle once again to idle zone and time to take clearence

yes its known as the EXecutive Bilateral Organisational Xfer system and is available to all key decision makers at their fingertips, and for some in a portable variant, usually carried in the briefcase of their ADC. The 2 F-16 and 4 mirage 5 were waiting for just such a situation -totally radio silent they listened to this increased emmision in uhf frequency band and knew a raid is in the offing .Group captain Imtiaz moved the power lever all the way forward and started a max rate climb and at the same time switched on his air search radar to aquire the B-52 s .The radar echo at 35000 ft was to prominent many time bigger than c-130s he was used to and he quickly energised the outer most pylon aim 9ls for a snap shot -but he was still far out of range about 80 kms from the closets buff and heclosed in at an intercept angle of 45 degree in a classic side flank attack in an almost vertical climb at a climb rate indiactor touching almost 30000 ft/min .His taem mates followed at discreet distance each selecting thier own um missable target . Time to launch missile 4 minutes for a sure kill .
They did not see the su-30 s at leat not on radar since they have shanged their altitude and gone to deck at 500 ft with no after burner and their powerful Bars 9kw air search and tarck radars all in standby mode relying totally on the phalcon for their intercept and targetiing solution .
The message from phalcon 1 flashed on the extreme left of three 6 inch multicolour LCD screen

Each of the unmanned aircraft is equipped with a high defination low light capable colour nose camera ,a variable aperture tv camera,a variable aperture infra red camera and also a synthetic aperture radar for a clear visibility thru fog and battle field smoke .All the cameras produce real time videp images except the synthetic aperture radar which generates high resolution digital still images . The multi spectrum targeting system comes integrated with AGM 114 hellfire missiles and integrates the sensor pakage based on electrooptical-infrared and laser illuminator in form of a sensor pakage .The predators power plant Rotax 914 is a modified snowmobile engine producing about 100 horse power from its four cylinders.
