Re: Military Flight Safety
Thank goodness the pilot is safe. Atleast TOI(let) managed to get it right and reported the Mig-21 Bison as a fighter.
Undie TV reported it as a Mig-21 Bison HELICOPTER has crashed!

Re: Military Flight Safety
seriously you guys have to keep up with DDM
You see it goes like this
a Mig 21 crashed. Now the retard who has to write an article would like to use the words "another", 'again" etc.
So first he lines up the words and now tries to look for something to make sense.
Aha - a helo crash two days ago
as the retard gets orgasmic at his discovery - his finger spit out the wonderful article - mig 21 crashes , another helo crash, IAF crashes again
and all of BRF goes into a tizzy!!!
to be repeated in a few months
PS: I apologise to retards in advance for comparing you to DDM. Maybe I should use the word cretins.

It's another of those MiG 21 Bison fighter helicopters. The pic is probably of the Chandigarh helo crash a few months back.saip wrote:I am confused. What exactly has crashed? They even have a helicopter picture.
DDM are sinking to greater depths by the hour.

The picture is of the HAL Chetak that pranged in Bangalore last year.
Re: Military Flight Safety
Air-crashes have this strange but sad "rule" of occurring in a group of 3.. .. this is more prevalent in case of passenger airliner crashes..
Re: Military Flight Safety
Strange you should say that. My brother - an air force officer - said that years ago.prithvi wrote:Air-crashes have this strange but sad "rule" of occurring in a group of 3.. .. this is more prevalent in case of passenger airliner crashes..
Re: Military Flight Safety
^^It's really strange, I've formed this 'superstition' quite independently... almost seems to be true, but I guess the human brain looks for patterns in everything...
Re: Military Flight Safety
Some pisko here. Once you are looking for a pattern you will always recall finding it and ignore the occasions when you do not find it. Like finding a human face in clouds or floor tile patterns. You ignore all patterns which do not look like a face. Every time you have a group of 3 accidents you will note it down as "confirmation" of your theory, an ignore the singles crashes and twos.
Re: Military Flight Safety
Absolutely. One of the many forms of bias inherent in human psychological make-up...
Re: Military Flight Safety
^ Heard the same from a pilot uncle of mine. the rule of 3

Some of you may have seen the bird spotters at Aero India. However, there were other areas of the station where the message of efficiency and safety had to be carried. Within the flying environment there was the world of air traffic control and meteorology. Further within the ATC was the task of the cleanliness of the aircraft movement areas; the runways, the taxi tracks and the parking aprons. Ingestion of debris from the ground by jet engines was a major problem. Keeping the aircraft movement areas free of pebbles and other foreign objects was a huge task. In 1966, mechanical runway sweepers did not exist. The sweeping task was manual and the workforce for this task had to come from a pool controlled by the Senior Administrative Officer. Another huge task with the ATC was bird spotting and bird control. This task was grossly manpower intensive and had many sub-facets. While flying was on, a number of bird spotters had to be employed who would look out for movement of flocks of birds around the airfield from various location on the ground. These men had to be equipped with mobile RT sets netted in with the Air Traffic Control so that the pilots on the circuit could be made aware of bird situation affecting their intended flight path. This whole system of bird watching was dependant on the alertness and perseverance of the bird watchers who battle boredom as well as physical discomfort of long hours out in the open sun. Motivation and dedication of these men was surely something that the flight safety organisation had to take a note of.

MIG-27 aircraft makes emergency landing due to technical snag
An MIG-27 aircraft made an emergency landing here barely two minutes after taking off from the airforce station due to system failure.
The aircraft landed safely back to the airbase.
According to the PRO (Defence) S D Goswami, the MIG-27 took off from the Jodhpur airforce base at 4.45 pm on a routine training sortie. Immediately after taking off, the aircraft developed some technical fault.
Goswami said the pilot turned back the aircraft towards Jodhpur and landed safely at 4.47 pm to the air base.
An internal inquiry has been ordered by the air force to look into the matter.

HAL plane, Bangalore-based pilots, flown back to Bangalore
Bangalore/Chennai, Apr 28, (PTI):
An Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) prototype aircraft crashed during routine flight test in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district today, but both test pilots ejected to safety, police said.
The IJT S-3466, which was earlier reported as an Advanced Jet Trainer, was on routine flight testing when the mishap occurred in the afternoon, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said in Bangalore.
The aircraft crashed in a sparsely populated area at Lakshmipuram, preventing any collateral casualties, police said. An IAF helicopter flew the pilots back to Bangalore, they said.
A court of enquiry has been constituted into the crash, HAL said.

Re: Military Flight Safety
The news article isn't clear on whether this was the 1st or 2nd prototype, or what type of testing was being done. I hope Tarmak007 can use his contacts at HAL and give more details into the incident.
The IJT was supposed to get IOC around June-July of this year. Wonder how much delay this crash will cost.
Thankfully, there was no fatalities, and the ejection seats worked as they were supposed to. I hope the pilots didn't suffer any major injuries.

Re: Military Flight Safety
Ankle fracture I am told.
Since the plane was approaching IOC - I guess it has been performing as per expectation. Since the plane went down over an uninhabited area perhaps it was performing some maneuvers and may have been monitored from Bangalore or another place. The fact that the pilots ejected and are safe suggests that they had both time and altitude to do that. The investigation will tell - in any case.

Re: Military Flight Safety
Unfortunate. I am not the sentimental kind, but this time my heart skipped a beat.
Wishing the test pilots a speedy recovery.
Could have been anything ... even long operational planes develop snags. Will wait for more details, but if anything I am suspecting they might have been testing the recovery from flat spins

Re: Military Flight Safety
The ejection-bailout system works, that is an outcome of this crash. I really thank god for saving these pilots. The memory of the painful Saras crash is still fresh

Another concern is that we are down to one prototype now.

Re: Military Flight Safety
IJT crashes during test flight
...
The aircraft was piloted by Group Captain Mathur of NFTC and co-piloted by Wing Commander Patra of AFTC. Naik said: “The flight had entered into an unintended manoeuvre and could not recover from it.”
The aircraft was on routine flight testing when the mishap occurred. An IAF helicopter flew the pilots back to Bangalore, they said. HAL Executive Director (HR) told Deccan Herald that the pilots were taken to the HAL hospital.
...
The first prototype of the IJT had suffered a major setback as the canopy of the aircraft flew open during take-off causing serious damage to the aircraft in the 2007 edition of Aero India. Just before the 2009 Aero India, its second prototype had landed on its belly while rehearsing for the show, causing considerable damage to the structure of the plane.
The aircraft was then piloted by Retired Squadron Leader Baldev Singh and Wing Commander C Subramaniam.
Although HAL maintains that such mishaps are part of any flight test process, the increasing number of crashes of HAL-manufactured aircraft has left India’s leading PSU with a bad reputation.

^^^ Poor prototype really had nine lives. RIP
Re: Military Flight Safety
^^ Guess the IOC is now very, very far away?
Re: Military Flight Safety
Looks like IJT was undergoing spin recovery test. Their worst fear did came true.
