a) Five Stars to Rajeev Ranjan (again!!). Hope someone in the desi media world recognizes his contribution to strategic affairs journalism in Hindi!!

b) Brings back memories of Belgaum and Cdo wing from the 80's and 90's when we were stationed there. Lido tank was a playground of sorts!

^^^ Good documentary..

These soldiers go into Ghatak platoons, right?
This course is mandatory for all infantry officers. I don't know if they take NCOs here and if Ghatak platoons are trained here too

Well, the good Major is a Para SF officer...you can also make out the prominent Combat Divers Badge on top of left chest pocket. As to what he is doing in an Infantry Battalion (Bihar Regiment) is anyone's guess. And it seems he was part of RR Battalion when this operation happened.

Beating the Retreat goes back to 17th century England, where nearby units would "retreat" back to the castle to take up defensive positions. Modern day ceremonies are a homage to that across the commonwealth of nations.

By the way, Pakistan doesn't retreat, Pakistan routs.

The fate of the others is likely to have been happier because they would have died instantly. By now this man will be dead. His torso was black because it was burnt skin. He would have died of burns since the video was shot.

Was that just an RPG? Looks too long for a man portable thing
From Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG-29
In January 25, 2013 an RPG-29 round - used by the FSA - was allegedly reported to have destroyed a SAA T-72 tank during an engagement in Darayya, Syria. A video uploaded to various web sites shows a man firing an RPG-29, then cuts to show a projectile striking the rear of the tank, penetrating its armor and causing the tank's ammunition to cook off.[11] However, still images taken from the video seems to indicate that whatever projectile hit the tank is not, in fact, a PG-29V rocket as is fired from the RPG-29. It remains unclear what destroyed the tank.

That is a Mi-17 for sure.

The front cockpit section has been ripped off. The doorway that you see in the front (with a fold-able seat in between) connect passenger cabin with cockpit. The fold-able seat is used by the flight engineer.

This is a beautiful 3D animated reconstruction of one of the Indian Air Force's most unforgettable dogfights -- in which Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon valiantly defended the Srinagar air force base win a Folland Gnat against marauding Pakistani F-86 Sabres on December 14, 1971, exactly 41 years ago.
