It is isn't it? You are a discerning viewer.

The MKI is as good, if not better - it is the lack of commentary that probably stops people from realizing that on a video.

I have dozens of videos of the MKI lazily flying in, lazily pointing its nose up and lazily doing something outrageous and lazily disappearing and nobody notices it because nobody realises that it requires tremendous surplus power, great engines and super aerodynamics to do that. I had uploaded and linked a video of the Su 30 doing pretty much that - but nobody seemed to find that exciting.

Here is the Aero India 96 video in which a Russian test pilot did magic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPQXN55T6LM

OTOH I find some absolutely bland and boring videos of cockpit shots and rolls with nothing more exciting than a rock music background being referred to as "fantastic video". Just not my cup of tea I guess.

Infact iirc had read on www (BR itself) when western Aviation enthusiasts questioned Flankers ability to perform the aerobatics with weapons loadout, the Russians obliged and Flanker did pull em off effortlessly.

The beautiful power and agility of a modern fighter aircraft becomes apparent in a display if you watch carefully, and if you get a chance to compare it with less powerful/agile aircraft.

Before doing a loop, less powerful aircraft go into a shallow dive to build up kinetic energy for the loop, and as they climb into the loop they slow down as the kinetic energy is bled away in exchange for altitude.

For example watch this video clip of the Suryakirans that I had put on BR a long time ago

http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/CLIPS/vs-brvs04.rm

If you watch from 2 minutes onwards you see the Suryakirans going up into a loop after coming in from a shallow dive (as seen from the smoke trail) that builds up kinetic energy for the loop. This is even more pronounced in aircraft like the HPT 32 or Hansa.

On the other hand, watch this Mirage 2000 from Aero India 1996.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTzhAwci_hY

Watch how this agile and powerful fighter is flying horizontally doing an "outside turn" at 1 min 23 sec - supposedly "bleeding energy" as all aircraft do in a turn. He completes the turn and does a couple of rolls to boot at 1 min 37 sec. Then, at 1 min 40, he just turns his nose up and goes into a comfortable loop, losing no speed in the process. The aircraft is seen doing that time and time again - often going to the top of a loop and having enough spare power to perform other maneuvers.

The greatness of some of these aircraft is in their ability to generate the power to climb at will without stalling, but yet, if they lose the speed (kinetic energy) with their nose pointed up, they don't stall and go into a spin. They recover and keep flying. Even the engines don't choke just because their forward speed comes down to zero or less than zero (negative in a tail slide)

Watch the "hammer stall" ("almost tail slide") and the "rock'n'roll" maneuver (5 min 22 sec) that I have never seen any aircraft other than the Mirage 2000 performing.

In this clip about development of cruise missile a pilot is shown to chase the missile. Is it not possible to train our pilots to shoot paki babur? may be ...
the question is what replaces the missile in training or is it purely a simulator?

Stunning footage of the Chinese Long March satellite launch vehicle failure in 1996. The rocket crashed into the crowds, killing estimated 500 people. Chinese blamed it on a gust of wind :-?

Two comments about this:

1) One of the four strap on boosters has a much longer plume than the others and I wounder if the imbalance at launch was excess or lowere thrust in one or strap-ons

2) Listen to the language on this Discovery channel clip. It shows how clever rhetoric is used as propaganda. The Chinee killed by the rocket are "innocent" viilagers (as opposed to "guilty" someone else) This is the very language used to describe events in India, China and other countries who attempt things that they should not be attempting. The lady being interviewed as some sort of expert witness claims that they were not allowed out for five hours to give Chinese a chance to make everything look almost normal. That is another little confabulation. It often takes several hours to put out a fire, and more time for the area to cool before debris can be removed - so this is clearly a "You farted" allegation to smear the Chinese.

I write this with a purpose. The rhetoric that comes out of Discovery channel - with flowery descriptions of marginal programs that are yet to take off has a profound effect on desis who watch and increase their contempt for anything that happens in India - will post examples elsewhere.

The US has inherited the British sense of manifest destiny- ie we rule because we must- and everyone else is second. So Russian weapons are copies of US ones, Indian Agnis are derived from the scout because Kalam visited the US for a month or whatever, Chinese make low grade junk and dont value life, and if all that doesnt work, the US won WWII and brought freedom to the world.

I wish more Indians were sensitive to this kind of 'subtle' propaganda. Yes, the ínnocent' does imply that the Chinese Government doesn't care about the lives of it's own citizens ( and that the humane and civilized West cares more for the Chinese ). This kind of condescending attitude and propaganda is quite common in the West.

Take a look at this video folks: This is the best Su 30 video I have seen in my life. The pilot is throwing that plane around with carefree abandon and it is doing some unbelievable stuff that now makes me wonder if the Su 30 is in any way less than the MiG 29 OVT

Fabulous stuff - and the video is not mine. Where is the icon for "jealous"?
