I was wondering about this damage, it should have been significant as they sent out PNS Zhulfikar to ferry the crew back to Pakiland. SDRE sailors seeing this damage and reporting on it would have significantly dented their cruised Ehhendee

They must be making a show of it.

IN has sent the images of the incident and Int's Task Force has seen what the roudy Pakistani Ship PNS babur had done.

I am cofused regarding this as well. How could the Helinets cause extensive damage to the hull of a ship?
Wouldn't the damage be proportional to the strength of the structure, and I assume that Strength(hull) > Strength(Helinet) ?

Did our ship suffer damage elsewhere, which actually led to damage to PNS Blah-burr?

chackojoseph saar,

These are safety nets for personnel only and have very little to do with the helo operations per se.

They are lowered only to prevent (tail) rotor damage ( and all that a damaged rotor implies especially at sea )

The nets are very flimsy at best and WILL in no way prevent any ship from
" brushing " the hull, as you call it.

[or even stop a helo from sliding off, not that such a thing can or will ever happen.] :)

Even a minor "brush" could have totalled both ships. Remember how we lost a warship in Bombay harbor recently when she was hit by a merchantman??

The sheer momentum of a 3-4000 ton ship underway is tremendous and the paki captain has surely crapped his pants at the near miss. The luckily minor collision was a very bad case of professional misjudgement and no body including an insane paki will endanger his ship on the high seas.

It was just some very lame idiot on the paki bridge who seriously miscalculated and has surely paid the price for it by now, despite whatever public statement the chest thumping pakis are making.

Maybe the strong wake of the Godavari herself also affected the steering of the Babur as Babur's bow would have completely been in very turbulent waters.

All in all, a very unpleasant but providential escape for all concerned caused solely by idiots on the paki bridge.

You are right. I amend what I said. Look here
The safety nets on the flight deck are lowered during helicopter operations and trained members of the crew act as flight deck personnel.
There are pics too.

Actually, I have stood on so many ships, the landing deck and even leaned on the deck nets. It looked like your average white painted fence. I think I got INS Beas picture. I will post it later. I never imagined that these were nets and it can be lowered.

Does he mean Pakis?
Shimla, June 26 (ANI): Prashant Chauhan, who was among the abducted Indian onboard the MV Suez, which was hijacked by Somali pirates, has said that militant outfits might be funding piracy on the high seas.

Talking to reporters after reaching his hometown, Chauhan said that a country''s involvement in nurturing piracy cannot be ruled out.

"There are some militant organisations which are funding and providing weapons to them (Somali pirates). They might even be having some share in the hijacking of ships, as they must be charging them money and using them to supply arms. I am sure some country might also be involved in this," he added.

he certainly cannot be referring to respectable nations japan or kenya!

the presence of the tabliqi jamaat in somalia is a guarantee they will turn a section of pirates into jihadi pirates from secular pirates they are now.

we need to find links with "secular good pirates" and have them at war with the "jihadi bad pirates" onshore to contain this at the root. this is Pak attempting to start a fire and then be a "broker" to manage and modulate the piracy threat in exchange for payoffs...in short a naval version of the scam on land  a literal blue ocean strategy in mbaspeak and diversification into new revenue streams using existing core competencies and deep domain skills

their probable vision is tie down the IN with these low intensity threats in our shipping lanes, maybe even score a goal or two like hijacking a oil laden 10,000t small tanker and driving it at 15 knots directly into mumbai docks before setting it ablaze....

Certainly the pakis, janab!

He must have caught a whiff or whisper in the long months of captivity.

It is so blindingly obvious that only those buggers will fish in troubled waters.

The same idea is being corroborated by bits and pieces of news and reports trickling in for some time now.

Mozambique, India to work together on maritime security
India and Mozambique have agreed to work together on maritime security to make the Indian Ocean a safe region for trade. An agreement to this effect was reached during delegation-level talks between the visiting Mozambique Minister of National Defence, Filipe Jacinto Nyussi, and Defence Minister A.K Antony here on Tuesday.

Mr. Nyussi thanked India for the help rendered by the Indian Navy in the rescue of a Mozambican shipping vessel from pirates off the Mozambican coast last year.

The issue of piracy off the East Coast of Africa prominently figured during talks between the two leaders, a Defence Ministry release said.

Five stranded fishermen arrive from India after Somali pirates ordeal
Tuesday June 28, 2011 (1212 PST)

http://www.paktribune.com/news/index.shtml?240851

A slap on the pig's bacon. Finally, our news channels did some PR for us!
A delighted Sajjad Hussain speaking to our sources had all praise for the Indian government. “It was the Indian Navy which rescued us, the Indian government gave us food and shelter, and the Indian media highlighted our issue.”
The young sailor, however, feels a bit let down by his countrymen in India. “The reason why our return was delayed was because of our government. They did not speed up the release process.”

What is wrong with us???

Who exactly is making the policies? Do we not know what is good for us? If Mozambique, why not so many others?

It would make more sense for us to work with the navies of the following on maritime security. :P

Vatican City
Monaco
Nauru
Tuvalu
San Marino
Liechtenstein
Marshall Islands
Saint Kitts and Nevis
Seychelles
Maldives
Malta
Grenada
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

i dont understand the comment about mozambique
this is a large, oil and mineral rich country, quickly recovering from decades of war and becoming an important part of the southern african economy with an increasingly active chinese presence. it also sits on the IOR rim and adjacent to the piracy infested areas and is an important 'base area' for the islands of the Indian ocean. we absolutely should be talking to Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya about an IOR policing alliance
what am i missing?

Infact working with the smaller nations can give us more leverage for acquiring basing rights etc. This means that we can have our smaller force contingent in those countries, and work without much interference from anyone, maybe even the host country as long as we do not overtly break their laws.

Madagascar too.

I thought Tanzania would be better than Somalia for IOR because it has good links with inland Africa. Mozambique is next best IMO

i think we need to make an agreement with South Africa around 'who polices what' around the IOR/African sector - not forgetting that Unkil has a military command that looks after the region too (though more focused on horn of africa)

besides mozambique has excellent beaches and some of the best prawns and lobsters ever!

We already have anti-Piracy relationships with Tanzania and Kenya... ditto for Madagasgar and Seychelles... Mozambique is next... Even Zanzibar is critical... all these countries are near Somalia...

The description in in Russian, but looks like what transpires is Russians catch a bunch of pirates. They confiscate and document the weapons and other incriminating evidence and then blow up the pirate boat with the pirates still on it.

Actually, they showed the pirates in the RuN ship before showing the pirate boat being blown up. If you look at the background of the pirates in the night shot, you will see they are on the RuN ship.

Soem of the people shown on the boat are definitely pakis. The sailors are asking nationality of the pirates and when they say Pakistan quite a few pirates raise their hands. It can be heard clearly in the video. Also the guy who was shot in the leg looks like a paki too.

Exactly my point, also the way he talks in English. He seems to be in a "leadership" position and is the only guy shown to be shot/injured. In the whole video, they we hear grunts / actions / gestures in communication with others, except this guy on the floor. BTB, when are they asking "Nationality of Pirates", time please
