Nahhhh.
Russia has got her monies. Now she is waiting for 2012 to roll. Th calamities will certainly sink all these Indian assets (watch only Indian assets will sink). India then can do nothing. After all 2012 was predicted way back by the Incas. India will then have to refinance these projects. Russia will be L1. And, then Russia will wait till the next 2012 predicted by the Incas.
BTW, if you go to the Yahoo Island, in the Hawaiian chain, you can see all this - written - on banana leaves.
These leaves also state that some guy Called Br will lead the Indian MoD after 2012.
The leaves told me to post this. Actually they said I would post this.

(to Vivek) - to what advantage? I can see the bear milking India as much as possible and "conceding" JVs and partnerships where no milking is possible but one thinks it is highly unlikely that the bear would hamstring India in favor of the Dragon.
Raosaheb, your post was a bouncer - what meaning of leaves - simple speak wonlee please.

Re: Indian Naval Discussion
We ALSO conveniently forget that the benevolent USSR - at the very same time - was supplying MiG-21, etc and taking bananas and other commodities in exchange......... we convinently forget the real life facts of sending CBG 7th fleet againt the nation ......
Russia - today - expects funds in US $$.
Just a data point.
Re: Indian Naval Discussion
Not the almighty "zero" instead?

And are we still paying for those free purchases?NRao wrote:We ALSO conveniently forget that the benevolent USSR - at the very same time - was supplying MiG-21, etc and taking bananas and other commodities in exchange......... we convinently forget the real life facts of sending CBG 7th fleet againt the nation ......

"free purchase"
how can one "purchase" without "paying"

Good question! Indian purchases from USSR were in roubles. The rupee rouble conversion rate was set by the USSR. Please read up on an Indian Company MS Shoes East and their modus operandi to exploit the difference in the government set rate and the market rate of the roubles.
So actually we paid more than bananas and are perhaps still paying (?) for those "gifts"!
Re: Indian Naval Discussion
Well I can't change people's opinion, but I do wish that poeple do some research before making an opinion.
It is "funny" the way everyone comes and "bashes" there way out on Russia for everything. They robbed us in gorky, they are deliberately delaying nepra, they don't supply IL76 spares, T90 is junk, there A2A missiles never work and what not!
Its simply funny. Not based on facts. And often made by people who don't have any hint of the kind of millitary relationship India enjoys with Russia.
(vivek not related to your post, general response to a lot of previous posts)

It is also "funny" how otherwise respectable BRF members invoke "Solar Flares" and "Mayan doomsday predictions" to explain away the endless delays in the delivery of the Gorshkov.

Only because they are more plausible than the official Russki explanations and dissembling.nachiket wrote:It is also "funny" how otherwise respectable BRF members invoke "Solar Flares" and "Mayan doomsday predictions" to explain away the endless delays in the delivery of the Gorshkov.
The next logical step is to portray the early deliveries of the C-130s and C-17s as a plot.

India deploys naval aircraft in Maldives
NEW DELHI - In its effort to bolster Maldives' anti-piracy patrols and maritime surveillance, India has deployed another naval Dornier aircraft in the Indian Ocean island nation, local media reported Wednesday.
"The Dornier will operate from Male and other places from Wednesday for at least three weeks," The Times of India newspaper quoted an official as saying.
Ever since Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony visited Maldives in August 2009, Indian warships and Dornier aircraft have been regularly assisting the 1,190-island archipelago in maritime patrolling, the newspaper said.
India is also assisting Maldives in setting up a network of ground radars in all its 26 atolls and link them with the Indian military surveillance systems, the report said.

I just have to ask - why are these images in grayscale? Any reason? The ship looks beaautiful - one of the best lookers in my vvho. If looks could kill, that baby would've sunk the Beijing & Karachi by now.

Re: Indian Naval Discussion
Kersi, keep abreast of the new developments and subs and warships emerging from the new Russia. After all, isn't B'Mos a huge success? The Talwar class ,an avatar of a venerable dsign has proved a huge success, similarly takea dekko at the equally venerable Kilo class SS.It is still in production in upgraded versions for Vietnam,Venezuela, etc.,despite its age of design.Western submariners who sneered at its apparent crudeness years ago have found their Collins class "the most expensive subs ever to have gone to sea" and the entire Canadian ex-RN Upholders of similar vintage to the Kilos inoperable too! There is a practicality about Russian weapon systems which makes them outlast more sophicsticated western systems which require more intense and expensive maintenance.
Russian missile systems across the spectrum have made huge strides and we will see our Super-Flankers armed with B'Mos and ultra LR AAMs of range of perhaps 120-200km.The next few years will see a slew of advanced Russian weaponry which will be in great demand.
Here's a good piece on the 4th-gen Severodvinsk .

Philip, not to worry, the Indian Building of the Scorpean will beat that record by a wide margin if things continue as they have been going. Unless the massive cost overruns are a nice cover for the Arihant class.
IIRC, the proposed P 75I will be budgeted at a cost of approx 1.8 Billion dollars for 6 boats. That cost is accurate will make them the most expensive SSKs ever put to sea.
PS, is it just me or ton for ton, Indian ships are actually the most expensive ships in their category.

They are greyscale because they originate from the electronic version of Sevmash's newspaper. The early delivery of C 130s is due to the El Nino current. The C 17s maybe delivered early as aircraft manufacturer has to go and feed the Loch Ness monster.Cosmo_R wrote:Only because they are more plausible than the official Russki explanations and dissembling.nachiket wrote:It is also "funny" how otherwise respectable BRF members invoke "Solar Flares" and "Mayan doomsday predictions" to explain away the endless delays in the delivery of the Gorshkov.
