Good stuff... So does that mean everything is fixed and they have fixed everything with it?
Was watching a documentary on the sea harrier. Looks like the harrier had the same negative opinions about its capabilities like LCA. It wasn't until Falklands where it proved itself that opinions changed.

Re: LCA News and Discussions
The Mirage 2000TH crashes are going to have a major impact on the LCA test programme and the N-LCA first flight could be delayed further. The fleet will be grounded till they pin down the problem and a fix is applied. Two crashes in 10 days is too much coincidence.
The 2000TH has been the mainstay as chase aircraft of the test program due to its reliability and low cost of operation.
Will have to wait and see if they depute a Su-30MKI to fill the gap. That is going to cost quite a lot per hour operation!

Re: LCA News and Discussions
There could be longer knock on effect.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dassault_M ... 28India.29
The wiki says we had ten trainers in total. Since the aircraft are spread over 2 squadrons and TACDE (please correct me if I am wrong), I would assume the split would be three trainers each for each of the 2 squadrons, two for TACDE and two spare to share around (one used for LCA programme).
The two squadrons might need three trainers each because, one would be used for pilot conversion, one for ground attack, since the two seater is used for laser designation and one spare. TACDE will need the two seaters for their courses and exercises.
Now with two aircraft gone, what was a happy scenario now looks dire.

Re: LCA News and Discussions
TACDE had mig-21 and mig-27 originally. other types might be rotated in (not sure) but m2k wasn't a permanent fixture there AFAIK.
Re: LCA News and Discussions
Sorry i dont understand how the m2k crashes will slow down the tejas program

Apologies for the posting in wrong thread, - 2 crashes of Mirages in last 10 days. I am sure our blokes are not finding this as an economical way to reduce the mirage upgrade bills ..

Plenty of Migs have crashed in the past with loss of pilots
and now Mirages!
OK granted that some may be due to pilot errors or mechanical faults but my heart says that Pakis are behind some crashes!
We need to tighten up our security as well quality controls.

well something happens to amrika, then LCA program will get into a cruise speed [dunno on what speed though]

There were a couple of floods and droughts around the country... Me thinks it has definitely a Paki hand
Shakaraa... We surely need to tighten security and quality, but lets not get unnecessarily paranoid.

You have your opinion, I have mine.
Don't try to trivialise it by bringing irrelevant stuff like floods or CT!
This is a very serious issue.
I am not paranoid.
I am realistic.
Let me point out the number of crashes as highlighted in Wiki:
'The safety record of the IAF's MiG-21s has raised concern in the media.[7][8] One source estimates that in the nine years from 1993 to 2002, the IAF lost over 100 pilots in 283 accidents.[8] During its service life, the IAF has lost at least 116 aircraft to crashes (not including those lost in combat), with 81 of those occurring since 1990.'
This kind of loss is unacceptable by any standard.
Shouldn't we care about our pilots' lives?
Both men and machines are important but remember machines can always be replaced, men cannot.
Why our air force was not alarmed after so many crashes?
What was the outcome of any investigation?
What remedial actions were taken?
The crashes continued and are still continuing.
It used to be mainly Mig-21. Now we hear about Mirages and even Sukhoi crashes.
Accidents are bound to happen but we must try to minimise them.

Re: LCA News and Discussions
Hmm, I am actually far more eager to see the LSP 7, the Navy variant can come later. Ideally, in a dreamworld, I'd like to see:
Snecma-Kaveri powered Tejas (<6500kg empty; 90kN thrust) start FSP around 2016-17. In the meanwhile get 2 sqds of Tejas mk1 running on GE-F404IN20. At least 200 units.
Use the 100 GE-F414s to get the Naval version going - (7000kg empty, 100kN thrust), 100 units.

Greed has never been my way of thinking, but, ...........................
I say increase that to 200 and get at least 2 floating decks with 4 cats each.100 units
Re: LCA News and Discussions
can anyone confirm if the French CVF carrier will power the cats using EMALS system or steam? how will the conventional powerplant generate the steam needed?
to answer my own question, seems the french PA2 carrier was designed for 73,000t but dropped back to 60,000t for cost reasons. and it will use the american steam catapults and additional boilers for that. power plant will all electric driven by RR gas turbines and a diesel engine.

its time to bite the bullet and open talks for the catapult system. must be designed into ADS2 from day1 to permit either F-18I or Rafale-M ops and E2-DI. it will also mandate a size of around 65,000t and 300+m..... should put in 4 cats to maintain sortie rates

Re: LCA News and Discussions
If I remember correctly, there are only two countries in the world that know how to build steam catapult or EMALS catapult systems, the UK (who invented the steam catapult) and the US. And I'm not sure if the UK remembers how to build steam catapults any more. Everyone simply imports them from the US and I don't think the design know-how is for sale.Singha wrote:can anyone confirm if the French CVF carrier will power the cats using EMALS system or steam? how will the conventional powerplant generate the steam needed?

Yes, Only the uncle can provide us with such technology.
And again Uncle may insist the F-35 + E2D buy in return for selling the catapult tech for ADS2.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the production of nine units for the navy, roughly half a squadron, that will ostensibly operate off India's first indigenous aircraft carrier currently under construction at Kochi.
