negi wrote:Gagan you might know this already but fwiw following has some information of Paki missiles and their launch sites.

Looks like lot of them are launched from SUPARCO's sounding rocket launch facility in Sonmiani, Balochistan.

Actually I am looking for the site where they've tested their Babur Cruise Missiles from. With Babur they always say 'Undisclosed Location'.

The Tilla site that they have mentioned in Astronautix is wrong. Actually I had made that placemark several moons ago, and uploaded it on bbs.keyhole.
I have since found the correct location. The test site is further east close to Jhelum, on the eastern side of a hill called Tilla Jogiyan (Punjabi for Hill of the yogis) This is Pakistan Army's Mahshood test range.

This is where they test their Nodong / Ghauri missiles from, since these are made in Kahuta which is close by. The first ever test of the Nodong/Ghauri was on April 6, 1998 and the missile landed near Quetta. This was launched from the place marked Tilla Launch site in the picture below, the place is right next to the village Malote which is due east of it.

These days they launch Nodong/Ghauris from within the test range. These are North Korean origin liquid fuelled missiles that are made at Kahuta.
Note that the Chinese origin M-11, M-9 and M-18 named Shaheen series are manufactured at Fatehjung in the Kala-Chitta mountains and these are tested from Sonmiani and aimed at the sea.

We can use this as the starting point and keep on adding / deleting / updating as we dig out more current and pertinent info

F : BALOCHISTAN

9) XII Corps - Quetta - Lt. Gen. Khalid Shamim Wyane - responsibility western Sindh, the Afghan border, and reinforcement of eastern formations
This is incorrect.
This guy is now a General and is Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman. Oversees all missile tests, probably posted in Pindi.

The name may sound a bit strange but PA's "14 POK" is deployed in Kargil facing IA. 14 POK is regular PA and consists of a Mujahideen company.

Certain pickets are literally facing off within spitting distance of the IA. 14 POK's MO consists of firing a burst of small arms fire followed by taunts of "We don't need permission from command to fire at you but you do so we will wait until you get permission from Delhi which you will never get". Its all friendly. No ma-bhen abuses are being traded.

[off topic]
14 POK are re-supplied rather badly with food but goats are in good supply (this is not a joke) whereas the Indian troops are re-supplied good rations.

Every now and then, 14 POK requests some juice and other goodies from the IA picket which our chaps throw across. 14 POK returns the favour by throwing apples which they have in good supply but the IA does not.

some nuggets in this.

Muhammad Haroon Aslam, chief of logistics, is the senior-most lieutenant-general. As director-general of military operations, he had handled the fairly successful operations against the Pakistan Taliban in the Swat valley, and then commanded the Bahawalpur corps. But Sharif may not favour him because he was a member of the clique that toppled him during the Musharraf coup of 1999. Sharif could point out that Aslam is to retire in April, and he wants a chief with a longer tenure.

If Sharif wants to stick to the seniority principle, he can post Aslam as chairman JCSC and get his favourite as army chief in November end.

Next in seniority is Rashid Mahmood, former commander of the Karachi corps and currently chief of general staff (a post that does not exist in the Indian army; the vice-chief acts as CGS in India). He is due for retirement in April. But if Sharif favours him, he can always give him an extension.

Third in the list is Raheel Sharif, currently inspector-general of training and evaluation. He is said to have a godfather in the Sharif cabinet: Lt-Gen. (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch.

If Kayani is asked to nominate his successor, the odds favour Khalid Rabbani, the commander of the Peshawar-based XI corps, which is holding the Afghan frontier and bearing the brunt of the Taliban attacks and also getting the flak for the US drone attacks. It is said Kayani sent him to Peshawar, well aware of the delicate nature of the operations there.

The junior-most in the list of the probables is Zaheerul Islam, chief of the ISI. Bets are being placed on him because he is trusted by both Sharif and Kayani.
