Vishal Sir,
Navy has been giving new ads of this kind for the last few months.. I guess they caught on to the fact that you need to make you ads flashy to catch the interest of the casual readers..

Some excellent photos by Wg Cdr R S Chauhan (Retd) from the recent IFR 2011 @ Mumbai;

Sea Harrier Frs Mk.51s --> Notice the colour scheme of the drop tanks in the bottom two SHARs...they still have their original two tone (blue and white) colour pattern as the aircraft themselves once had. Click on the second link to see what I am referring to.

http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/NAVY/Images/Harrier8.jpg

Never seen MiG-29Ks with drop tanks along with the standard centre line APU. Beautiful birds...the Navy needs to complete its own MMRCA program (not sure what the progress on that program is) and transfer all these MiG-29s to the IAF. Not sure on how they plan to maintain three different set of combat aircraft (MiG-29K, Naval LCA and Naval MMRCA).

Naval HAL Dhruvs....never seen one with its wheels retracted.

Seems to be from the recent ceremony involving reigments from 1st Armored Division in Patiala. Similar (massed tanks taking part in parade) to the ceremony with 31st Armored Division.

What is the text in red on left launcher ? 0-07 ? Will missiles in service have this text or two flags ?

They seem to be stationary. A moving column of tanks with wind blowing should create a hell of a dust cloud.

Crafty Navy has painted over the numbers on the nose to prevent identification of individual airframes.. :D

Jagman, I just realised (yes I know...sacrilege!) that all four birds are the KUB variant. BTW, if I am not mistaken....the serial numbers are painted on the fuselage and you can barely see their outline right under the drop tanks. See this image;

I won't read too much into the navy's MRCA, it was an RFI and probably for picking up trends for AMCA. they are well covered with mig-29k and NLCA.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out.. I was thinking that some numbers were missing.. the drop tank config is a new one.. (Underwing Drop tanks are very rarely seen on IAF MiG-29s - infact saw them only once..)

True. With 45 MiG-29K and ? NLCA Mk.2, IN will be set till 2030 for its 3 to 4 aircraft carriers. However, if the IN considers NLCA to be more of a LIFT type of aircraft with secondary combat role due to its smaller size/range, then there is a possibility for a new Naval MRCA.

If above is the scenario, then most likely IN will go for 45 JSF-B V/STOL (or the C) variant sometime around 2020. That will equip around 3 squadrons.

Looking into far future (2030+), AMCA would replace the 45 MiG-29Ks.

Just wanted to ask why is our military obsessed with a soldier coming down from a helo with a rope or being hung by a rope? This kinda pic always ends up in every celebration or documentary.....does anyone has any insight?

It looks very dramatic to anyone who hasn't already seen it a dozen times on Discovery and Natgeo. Have you ever been in an Indian crowd witnessing such an event? The crowds are enthralled by that and by the Parachutes. They don't give a damn for static tanks that give jingos orgasms.

In every Aero-India, whenever we have the helo based commando display with the soldiers finally hanging onto a rope from the Helo and saluting to the crowd before flying away, the reaction of the crowd has to be seen to be believed. Its almost orgasmic for the aam-junta.

You are right, I have never been in an Indian crowd witnessing such an event, so I can't tell. Although I have been to a few air shows in USA and I never have seen such a thing being shown here. Although that is not something this population have not seen at least a million times in hollywood movies.

IMHO this helo hanging thing is kinda sleazy and our military have been over doing it.

mittal, single person hoisted up is a mock rescue, one of IN's very important contribution in case of shipwrecks, floods etc. nothing sleazy about it.

that said, I am disappointed by the video, till date only WingCo Chauhan of torqueaviation produces really professional quality photography. shots could have been taken from more dramatic angles, editing could have been a zillion times better. there was far too much going on in the intro with no single string binding the whole idea together.
lastly the music, I am really tired of el cheapo 80's style music in official videos.

:rotfl: Classic! It doesn't happen in the USA so it's sleazy. On the contrary what happens in the USA is not sleazy This is ripe for another thread!!

But Indians are a sleazy people in case you didn't know brother. Sorry if that disappoints you. May be you only ever saw Indians in the USA who must be oh so smart. :D

The blog where this pics are taken says that the "Frogman" is the MARCOS mascot?
Also known as the Frogmen(no doubt because of their mascot) in the Indian Navy, these very, very, very young officers and sailors were tasked with the tough job of clearing out the lake and the surrounding mountains of terrorists.
