The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha has commissioned INS Makar into the Indian Navy. Makar is a Catamaran Hydrographic Survey Vessel and is the first of its kind to be inducted in the Indian Navy. The Vessel is indigenously built by Alcock Ashdown Gujarat Ltd. INS Makar is another statement of the potential of India's indigenous Warship Building Industry.
INS Makar also marks a new chapter in the annals of Hydrography in our country. The primary role of the ship is to undertake Hydrographic surveys, required for production of nautical charts and publications aimed at improving navigational safety at sea. She is equipped with an array of modern surveying equipment and has the capability to undertake limited oceanographic surveys towards providing marine environmental data.
The ship is propelled by four engines as well as two bow thrusters. The ship is also equipped with two Survey Motor Boats. The entire propulsion, navigational and power management packages of the vessel are integrated in a single state-of-art system called Integrated Platform Management System.
Her impressive equipment outfit for hydrographic survey includes Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Remotely Operated Vehicles for closer investigations. Other equipment are advanced Electronic Positioning System, Multibeam Swath Sounding Systems and Sub Bottom Profiler. She also has a full range of latest oceanographic and land survey equipment.
The accommodation for six officers and 44 sailors incorporates advanced ergonomic design and ensures crew comfort and space management. The ship has enhanced Indian Navy's already existing world class sea/ocean survey capability.

Probably this Sukhoi was playing along with other Leh based birds like Mig-29 and assorted MKIs, this bird could have been the controller collecting combat Maeuvering information. my 0.00002 paisa onlee.Sid wrote:landing at Leh?
Looks like this Su-30 is carrying an ACMI pod under its left wing. If true, why ACMI in Leh.

does the Prez style of salute have something to with the fact that he suffers from some sort of age-related limb condition? Arthritis?

Times of India Mumbai Edition main paper on 1st Feb 2013 had a coast guard full page advt. You may go to epaper for that day's mumbai edition, click on advt, click on India Coast Guard.
The advt had a photo of OFB Prahari / NSV HMG firing. Check the size of the flash caused by superhot gasses and you'll understand why flash gear is an indispensible part of the equipment.
That photo should end all questions on monkey caps.

Saw IAF C-130J at Mumbai Airport at Air India hanger.

It'll be better if the pictures from FB fan pages are posted without comments. Most of these groups are managed by mostly ignorant fan boys with an eye on female audience. If they have provided the source which is quite rare, then please quote from the original source. Half of the stuff posted there is captioned wrong.

Respected Pranab da is supreme commander of all three forces so he can salute in a way he likes
you can easily examine the salute when all three chiefs visit the memorial before 26 jan parade ............

Is that a real IAF sign? If yes, they need to keep the warning as is, but run it through a spell check

"Respected Pranab da is supreme commander of all three forces so he can salute in a way he likes"
With respect, the country needs to have a serious debate on the entire issue of civilian netas, whether it is the President of the Republic, or some provincial satrap, being allowed to salute the armed forces at an official parade. Or being allowed to salute when the national anthem is being played.
These neta types just do not know the significance of a military salute. Their fingers, hands and tummies are all over the place when they attempt this most important gesture.
What Pranab babu is doing at the Beating the Retreat ceremony is most undignified and improper. Admittedly, he is not as bad as the Patil woman. Nevertheless, we should follow the worldwide pattern of heads of state just standing to atterntion and not saluting the armed forces personnel who are marching past. Ditto when the national anthem is bering played or the national flag being unfurled.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
No Jaybhattji. I disagree. The act of saluting is not an armed forces prerogative and netas must not get the impression that the forces salute them and they need not salute anyone else. that latter paradigm is more for feudal lord and his vassal chowkidar.
The act of saluting is older than any armed forces and occurs outside the forces too. it is a gesture of respect. It is the armed forces who demand that their members have a particular style for their own reasons of uniformity and discipline. Otherwise no particular style is required by anyone else. Let no neta think he need not salute.

Haha.... Iranian commandos on our own SDRE Pulsar .
Or it could be that chinese copy version of our Pulsar, ie Gulsar... that'd be consistent with the way Iran is creating its technology these days

http://www.autoblogs.in/2009/06/bajaj-p ... andia.htmlWhen a Columbian biker began what he thought was just a fun ride across South America and Africa, but this experiment transformed into a journey of self expression and freedom for Daniel Velandia. Though cross country and international bike rides have become more common these days, Daniel chose India's very own Bajaj Pulsar 180cc DTSi for this purpose.

Hey what is this crazy missile in pics missile serpent or an out of control missile or deliberate maneuvering of brahmos. Great pics btw. Any report on LCA hitting bullseye ? Heliina blowing couple of armored target ? Sudarshan making to targets ?

What on earth is the missile/rocket trying to do?

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
energy bleed?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
I thought so. But only AAD is capable(needs) of doing that.
I am not able to see any control fins on the body, so i thought it might be a rocket as well.
