Here's a link to a wonderful 13 page publication called INAS 300 is 50 which has many original photographs of Indian Navy Air Ships - Vikrant and Viraat. A keepsake.

Posting this here as its directly connected to the Topic.
One more article featuring my name in the Papers:
Why are planespotters in deep trouble? | Times Of India
http://www.facebook.com/VishalJolapara

They wait for hours near an airport and then, suddenly, they are propelled by the scruff of their collar.
Some are slapped, others beaten.
Some are branded terrorists, others hauled to the police station. And all because they love taking photos of airplanes.

Welcome to the world of planespotting - an innocent pursuit whose followers are now being forced to do it surreptitiously, thanks to the ignorance and short-sightedness of authorities.

For many of them, capturing a majestic A-380, a dreamy B787 or a noisy IL-76 on film is as heady as flying.
Mumbai-based Vishal Jolapara says, "Planespotting is an enthralling obsession world over. But what few realize is that not only are we capturing aviation history, but we can often also be the eyes and ears of the police and the airport community."
The article was supposed to be a lot bigger & elaborate however space constraints etc meant that Shobha had to snip a lot of stuff.
What's written is just the surface, most horror stories have all been left out.

Kashmiri School Girls on INS Trishul

Looks like Trishul painted on a mosque like structure with electronics forming gumbuz over it.

  That dome is the dielectric housing for the secondary radar that works with the Kashtan system. Worldwide radars use dielectric domes to protect them for elements.

Sigh.

The Tejas will have a very similar retractable probe, if not the same with some tweaking, from Cobham.

the Jaguar IFR probe, it appeared, has a swiveling motion. LCA's, last time pics appeared, OTOH appears to emerge out more linearly, like that in the MKI's

subsequent design change?

Yes. That is a fixed probe with no place to retract either horizontally or vertically. It added drag to an already draggy airframe, hence for Mk2, Cobham showed a design with a vertically retracting probe using the real estate from the extended nose plug. If that specific Cobham design is selected, then we will find that in Mk2. Mk 1 might retain the fixed probe.

can expert comment on this C-130 snap? Is this some light and shadow effect or the aircraft really looks worn out so soon..?

High dynamic range (HDR) post-processing has been used to give the image a higher contrast than would appear naturally. So while those curves at the top of the aircraft would exist in a milder form, they've been greatly exaggerated by post-processing.

thanks. wasn't aware the existing IFR probe wasn't retractable, nor the Cobham connection :p
