France's Dassault has placed the lowest bid to supply India with 126 fighter jets in a closely watched multi-billion dollar deal.
<snip>
However, government sources told Reuters about the $15 billion deal that France's Rafale jet was the likely winner, adding that the defence ministry was now considering buying another 80 or so jets and could invite bidders excluded from the current process to take part.

:rotfl: kolaveri fever

"bidders excluded from the current process" in all probability doesn't refer to the 4 rejected contenders or Eurofighter. So unless the F22 is for sale, it should be the F35

Katrina won! YAAY!!!! Barfis are coming!!!!

Good job! An excellent choice considering this is going to be quite expensive for us and has offset the exorbitant cost of the Mirage 2000 upgrade.

MarcH was right after all!

Rafale with the ASMP-A nuclear missile...a dangerous toy that we will likely never get our hands on...as I said, she is called Katrina because she has just the right amount of potency! :)

The Price Negotiation Committee better squeeze Dassault real good, because it is the first export order for Dassault.

Raffy is the lowest bidder, doesn't mean a deal is through, it really isn't over till the deal is inked, I wonder if that will ever happen since what Swami seems to have said has come true, there will be a lot of corruption noise coming up soon.

An old article and until there is concrete evidence, he can spew verbal diarrhea all he wants. Let us enjoy the moment Septimus. The Typhoon is an excellent and was chosen in the technical shortlist by the IAF. It only lost on the price.

Woah... didn't see that coming. Here I was thinking this thing would push past February, but its good to finally get a result.

A hearty congratulations to the French.

Kudos Arthuro. We had a long and at times acrimonious run but it was fun nonetheless.

I'm not really sure what to do on BRF now that this is over. Maybe I should join a car forum and get into Mercedes vs Audi debates now. :D

As well intentioned as the man is in his fight against corruption , I hope he realizes that THIS is not an issue he should sink his teeth into as it's a matter of national importance and much delayed already.

French Rafale jet beats Eurofighter in $10bn India deal

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-16809532

French firm Dassault has emerged as the lowest bidder in a $10bn contract to supply India with fighter jets.

Dassault Aviation will now enter final negotiations before any deal is signed for supplying India with 126 Rafale aircraft.

Correspondents say this is one of the world's biggest defence deals and is a major setback for rival bidder, the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Eurofighter lost out in December on an $8bn deal to supply jets to Japan.

Officials at the British High Commission in Delhi said they were disappointed with the decision and would now study the details.

A statement read: "It was expressly said this was about the cost of the contract, not a reflection on the health of bilateral relations between India and the countries."

The officials said they "genuinely believed the [Eurofighter] Typhoon offered the best capability now and in the future".

They also said it was "not beyond imagination" that India might decide the Rafale was not the right option as it continued the process.

Four other bidders had dropped out in the lengthy selection process BS.
The colonial mindset still persists, eh?

Times Now is stating that "significantly" lower price means that there's atleast 10,000 crore price difference.

Congrats to Rafale - how can we figure out if the contract will ensure that Dassault does not hold us to ransom in future like the M2K deal?

Well for IAF's sake I hope Swami doesn't pull out some piece of paper that looks like evidence, all it takes to get kill the raffy deal is a piece of such evidence. It is an old article indeed, how the heck did Swami know so long ago that Raffy will win? Not soo easy to discount this as co-incidence.

That said, cheers Arthuro, our battle between EF and Raffy was far tougher than the real battle. It seems for now Raffy has emerged cheaper.

Good running Viv. :)

I am keen to know abou the config and weapons pack. I think an all US weapons pack.

54 months from when the deal is signed, the 18th should be in India.

The Gandhi family's corrupt defence deals have a way of coming back to save our b***s when needed the most. Case in point -- the Bofors Gun during Kargil. So that way, if indeed Sonia Gandhi & Family have profited from this deal, I take it as a good omen! Amen.

Nice pic! Brought back memories of the time in the late 80s when I had first seen a Mirage 2000 coming to land at the Ambala AFB in almost a similar angle. Used to love ogling at them while on my way to tuitions near the airbase. I also remember being crestfallen when one of them crashed soon after.

Areee this is not confirmed news. Just the same thing all over again from reuters that was out during the day. If the news is true than it would be great. :D If they want to go for an additional 80 aircraft they might as well go for the EF. That way you get both an excellent strike aircraft in the Rafale as well as an excellent air superiority fighter in the EF. But its probably just to bring the "stone in the neck" JSF into the picture again
