Nice Video , Good to see IN Chakra crew on top of Sail waiving , probably he is the sub commander.

AK Antony says lease of another Akula proposal is there but no decision is taken.

Chakra has ESM and Surface radar integrated on one mast , dont recollect watching on other subs.

Just comparing the picture of Torpedo Tube from Ajai Shukla of Nerpa

We can see one dark torpedo tube which appears bigger than the one besides it , the larger looking cover of TT indicates she has 650 mm TT , atleast 1 on each side or 4 x 650 mm and 4 x 533 mm as normal Akula-2

What is distinctly missing is the 2x 3 Tubes just above the torpedo tube for bigger MG-74 countermeasures

Presence of 650 mm TT will allow it it fire stand off anti-submarine weapons like RPK-7/SS-N-16 , it can fire UMGT-1 Torpedo

By the way, is Nerpa only for the training purposes or will it be equipped with the arsenal that it is supposed to carry and go on offensive petrols?

All the halwai's of available could not manage to finish the 8,200 tons of Mithais. So Admiral Koshi has now decided to join hands with them and surface only when the mithai making task is over.

8 Nuclear subs?

Well Two Akulas ( another being negotiated) and Five more Arihant Class ( excluding One already undergoing trial). Two in construction stages and three in various drawing stages. Thats a total of eight.

Russian Submarine joins Indian navy

Russia’s ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin took part in the handover ceremony on the Visakhapatnam base. In an interview with the Voice of Russia he said that this event would be a red-letter day not only in the history of the Indian Navy but also in the history of the Russian-Indian relations.

"I would like to stress here that the handover of the Russian nuclear sub to India was held ahead of a very significant date – the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Russia ( April 13th ) and shortly before the 50th anniversary of the beginning of military-technical cooperation between the two countries. Russia is doing what no other country is doing: it displays generosity and sincerity while sharing with India the best of what it has, and the nuclear-powered sub “Chakra” is the product of our friendly relationship and at the same time, our common child. And dont forget adding the SSN group. IN is contemplating for a 6 to 9 SSN in its armada.
