Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister during his stopover in Chennai on route to Sriharikota for the launch of the rocket. On his arrival at Sriharikota, he was greeted by Shri Chandrababu Naidu and Dr K Radhakrishnan, ISRO Chairman.

congrats ISRO. Interesting to see the Gas exhaust containment chamber. I am guessing that ISRO is experimenting with the optimum containment chamber to channel the exhaust gas energy for liftoff.
^^Nice. Good job done. But PSLV is a battle tested warhorse, so didn't have too many worries on that score.
I however, do await the GSLV Mk III's liftoff with mucho trepidation, must admit. What are the latest supposed launch dates for the next GSLV, anybody?
LVM3-X1 mission is scheduled for August. Congratulations, ISRO.
PSLV missions have become boring (in a nice way). This is the 24th successive 100% successful mission of the vehicle and the 26th successful mission overall.
Now, on to the same target for the larger launchers.

NaMo is speaking and Hindi and English and his English/message in that language is really good(not reading from paper) except for a fake accent(that is not needed) he is really lucid and easily comprehensible w.r.t his message.
I would have loved it if Modi had committed Rs 1000 crores for development of an LCH4 & LOX stage for the GSLV MKIII replacing the twin Vikas engines that are past their retirement date, giving us truly globally competitive launch vehicle. Next step, maybe a fly back booster lower stage for the GSLV MKIII (okay call that MKV) , that will enable true re-useability and crash the space launch costs.

The live telecast on DD National has just started. There is a new commentator this time, Dr. Ms. Lalithambika.
She was good. Knowledgable, technical, to the point and knew when to speak and what to speak. Cant say that about that guy rambling on and on in Hindi though. Exactly like the Mars mission launch. I just wish, DD gets in experts Dr. Lalithambika and others and leave out the Hindi cricket match commenatary jokers out.
Other channels like NDTV and others were unwatchable with "generic" anchors trying to do "science" and putting out clever by half questions that sounded asinine.
Modi asked ISRO to extend the range of IRNSS to all of South Asia. But my understanding was that it already covers it - its stated objective being coverage of the Indian landmass and a range of at least 1000kms, and typically 1500+ kms around it. Or is that understanding incorrect?
What NaMo might have meant is access to location signals from IRNSS sats to SAARC countries.. IRNSS as far as I remember sufficiently covers SAARC countries .. and more..

I had a discussion recently with people from IRNSS team. They said that the first phase will have 7 satellites with an option of 4 more. China and Pakistan will be covered sufficiently with these 11 satellites. By December 2015, the entire constellation should be up and running. However, the users, mainly Air force and Navy are asking for coverage of the entire world in later phases.
