Capt Maolankar also mentions that NP2 will have redesigned intakes to correct the starvation problem...

Question: Is Su30MKI going to carry only one Brahmos between the engines or there is some talk of a special batch of Su30MKI's being configured for 2misssiles.. is it true?

Pillai: The airlaunched version will be fitted on Su30MKI's manufactured in India.. they will be produced at HAL, Nasik.. a batch of Su30MKI's that will be produced in a special configuration... this batch will be able to carry one Brahmos..

Any guesses.. what that means? There is a lot of depth in that statement...

What I can gather is this:

The 'special configuration' for brahmos will be produced at Nashik, and in limited numbers. Limited numbers, because, the 'special configuration' will have strengthened structure, thus adding weight and hence payload. Rest of which produced in India will be of standard design for general purpose.

The new series of 40 ordered (at a much higher unit cost) will be produced in Russia and will be the 'gold standard'. They will be the standby weapon platforms to carryout 'very very special' combat missions.

Didn't the strategic forces command require tested platforms for their use sometime back? Do these two requirements overlap or are they mutually exclusive?

Integrating Western weapons & systems on Russian aircraft - IAF experience [Aero India 2011]

Notes:
Autopilot on Russian Ac - use not for to reduce pilot stress, but for unusual attitude recover, avoiding ground collisiosn, and auto mission execution
Many Western ac of same vintage did not have a basic autopilot

Weapon Employment
Lesser Weapons with greater accuracy (West), or larger weapons with lesser accuracy (East)

su 30 more receptable for western avoinics

Legacy russian fighters not suitable for upgrades

Physical space
scheduling of data

Mil Std vs GOSt (standards and specifications)

------------------------------------------
Axis convention
X to Front, Y to right wingtip, Z to bottom (West)
Russian - Y and Z are interchanged. Y is bottom, and Z is right wingtip

A flight test program to assess european equipt, during flight test, unexpected MAC warnings in networked environment
Russian Video is vertical scanning. Western video is horizonal scanning

Russian LRUS are custom built to fit in airframe - cannot be easily replaced by new common components.
Uncontrolled power spikes in russian aircraft causes equipment to reboot
LRU failures connected in series to russian equipment fail due to robust russian LRUs.

Weapon integration:

4.5 percent variance in Western weapons vs 14 percent for russians weapon mass
14 inch spaced lugs for west, and 10 inch spaced lugs for east. Bombs welded with both sets opposite to ech other.

Russian large area weapons. videos of weapon delivery showing dumb bomb accuracy.

Russian Equipment showed Resilence to EMI

----------------------------

Podded system better/ easier for Su-30s
