Russian company unveils MiG-35 at Aero India
Do you think they have addressed the 'smokey engines' issue in this version?
TIA
Did anyone watch the above Mig-35 flying display at AI-07? If so, can you please file a report? The jet made awe-inspiring manoeuvres in the skies over Bangalore soon after the inauguration of the sixth edition of Aero India, South Asia's biggest aerospace show that has attracted major civil and defence aircraft makers

AERO INDIA 2007 TAKES OFF
Metal birds wow B’lore
Bangalore, DHNS & Agencies:
The Yelahanka airbase reverberated to the thundering sound of the war machines as India lined up its flying machines, both indigenously produced and those procured from other countries.
Residents of the City woke up to a cloudless day on Wednesday with clear blue skies banishing the blues that had set in with the ALH crash five days ahead of the Aero India Show.
The sixth edition of India’s premier five-day air show kicked off with great fanfare with Defence Minister A K Antony declaring the show open, after profusely thanking Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for ensuring that the proposed bundh against the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal order scheduled for February 8 was postponed to February 12.

The scene stealer was of course the trademark symbol of Cupid executed in perfect unison by the Suryakiran team. The Sarang strokes, the Dhruv dips, the Sukhoi swings were some of the other star attractions in the air.
When the air display was in full swing, UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya was seen standing as he arrived late only to find that the stands were packed to capacity. Some overseas participants were heard “oohingâ€

Source: AWST March 13th 2000.Whenever foreign aircraft appear at U.S. air shows or participate in military operations like Red Flag, the U.S. is gathering intelligence on the aircraft. When there are MiG-29s, Su-35s, Mirages, Rafales or Eurofighters flying at air shows, intelligence officers are present measuring those aircraft with radars to build a catalog of information. With a good library of aircraft radar signal characteristics, computer specialists can build the processing into modern radars that permit identification.
Question: Can they do that in India ?
Israeli defense companies show wares at Indian air show

Amid concerns that the United States will break into the Indian defense market and steal away Israeli deals, 11 local defense companies opened the doors to the Israeli Pavilion on Wednesday at the prestigious Aero India defense expo.
Held at an air force base in Bangalore, the biannual Aero India defense expo is considered one of the most important for manufacturers of aerial-based technologies. Israeli companies presenting their wares at the expo included Elbit Systems, Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), Israel Military Industries (IMI) and Rafael - Israel Armament Development Authority.
Defense officials said that the expo was of extreme importance for Israeli defense companies, in light of the fact that India was Israel's biggest defense consumer.
In 2006, India signed $1.5 billion worth of deals with Israeli defense firms. Maj.-Gen. (res.) Yossi Ben-Hanan, head of the Foreign Defense Assistance and Defense Export Department, was in charge of the Israeli pavilion.
The defense expo in India comes at a sensitive time for Israeli companies, which are concerned that the US - which is in the process of upgrading its ties with India - will steal away a large portion of their defense business in India. During the expo, IAI Chairman Yair Shamir said that his company would view favorably any effort to create new defense cooperation between Israel and India.
The Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG stole the show at the defense expo on Wednesday after it unveiled the newest MiG-35 fighter jet. India is currently in the midst of talks over the purchase of 156 multi-role combat aircraft and, in addition to the new MiG, is also considering the US-made F-16 as well as the Eurofighter.
The main Israeli-made systems on display included survivability and protection systems; self-protection suites for fighters; virtual cockpits; laser warning systems; data links for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV); and precision-guided weapons.
IAI is displaying several new systems at the expo, including the I-View Mk 50, the smallest in the company's I-View family of tactical UAVs. The system, designed for operational simplicity and low radar signature, provides real-time intelligence to commanders in the field. The UAV has an endurance of five to six hours and can be used for close-range surveillance, reconnaissance, target acquisition and artillery adjustment missions.
Elbit Systems, which has also set up a stall at the expo, announced Wednesday that its subsidiary Ortek Ltd. had been selected to supply surveillance vehicles for the Ukraine Border Security Project, in a first-phase contact valued at over $4m.
The vehicles will include a command and control station, monitoring sensors, and additional security measures, allowing operation even in severe weather conditions. The vehicles can accommodate three operators simultaneously.
4500 hotel rooms most of them below 5* quality is a pathetic number for asia's fastest growing city. places like delhi and mumbai probably have 3-4X that number of comparable rooms. bengalooru sure operates on a small town mentality in these matters - the state govt could rake in tons of $$ by selling off some its land in outskirts to developers for building up the room capacity.
cheap and good rooms is always a nice first impression alongwith airport toilets which I am sorry to say havent improved at all in HAL airport - some kinda 2nd world contractor std with cheap sunmica/wood doors is being used when dozens of MNC offices have 1st world workmanship and fittings to emulate from. the urine smell is still there. .

Guys,
I need a ticket now. I was supposed to be travelling outside Bangalore this and next week. Somehow managed to delay my flight till Sunday Morning.
just checked Canara bank, Forum, Garuda. No luck. All sold out!
Any one having any source of any ticket (just 1)? I can get it picked up within half an hour. In addition to the ticket price, I promise a bottle of Napa Valley produce on my return in 2 weeks or Mcdowell No.1, if you like something more eclectic.

http://sify.com/news/fullstory.php?id=14384990According to CNN-IBN Aviation Correspondent Karma Paljor, who was just 50 metres away from the scene of the accident, one tyre of the IJT aircraft burst, throwing it off balance.

News is that the canopy opened prematurely because of this the aircraft skidded of the runway. The aircraft is believed to be a write-off.

1.The Fuselage looks in good shape.
2.We can retrieve the Engine (I presume).
3.The Right wing is in tatters.
Just plain bad luck. But how did the canopy open pre-maturely.I assume the canopy locking mechanism should be fool-proof.Not something that flips open on a bumpy landing.IJT is meant for intermediate stage training and is meant to be fool proof in this regard.
I assume we can attribute this to a technical-fault because the pilot would only open throttle after all pre-flight checks are green. This includes the canopy lock indicator.Few chances that the pilot messed up.
Singha' burst tyre theory sums it up

Any aviation power worth it's name would be doing that, including us.Acharya wrote:It is always done and they would have already done in other shows.Sumeet wrote:well nothing prevents us but the question is what about US ? After soaring to great heights in his business ventures, Tata took to the skies like a pro on Thursday and flew an F-16 jet at the Aero India show in Bangalore.
And that 30-minute sortie seemed to have only whetted his appetite for more. Tata will now fly a Boeing F-18 Super Hornet fighter on Friday. "He will fly at around 2 pm tomorrow," a Boeing spokesperson said.

RT may be looking towards becoming the Indian partner for the assembly of whichever MRCA is chosen. Tata's defense portfolio is growing, and getting the MRCA production partnership will be a big boost to their business.Singha wrote:IBN: I wonder what is his and usaf's particular interest...unless TATA is considering a pvt squadron or two TAF to protect their greenfield projects in east india from dem naxals

I wish Tata would join with DRDO as the production partner for Arjun. I will distribute sweets the day it happens.
The consecutive ALH and IJT crashes occuring during highly publicised Aero India seem to be more than coincidental. ALH has been inducted into the armed forces of two countries after rigourous trials and the IJT has many successful test flights to its name. The Russians and Americans especially should be suspect since they have strong interests in marketing their defense wares to India.
omar you are reading too much into a freak accident (ijt). there are much more subtle and effective ways of sabotaging a project than puncturing a tyre or something of that order.
for one thing , if caught, NO company from that country is ever going to get a contract from GoI.
for god's sake the sarang crash killed the co-pilot, who knows, even the IJT mishap could have turned fatal if it happened during landing.
you think they (yankees/ruskies) are ready to have blood on their hands for this contract ??
singha ji, I do seem to remember that 2 prototypes were flying. (wait, was it one static display and one flying @ farnborough ??)
CNN-IBN report was quiet good actually, they were the first to report it and their correspondent eye-witness (whatshis name) helped put things in perspective for the general public. mentioned that such things happen and so on.

thanks a lot, A Sharma, for a moment I thought they had lost the only flying prototype.
btw, Ai-07 is going on, can anyone find out the latest on the al-55??
also, nobody seems to share my interrest in the Modern SubMachine Carbine.
how can so-called defence enthusiasts ignore such a beautiful li'l baby??
