Operation All Clear in Bhutan (Dec 03)
Also refered to as Operation Flush Out
http://www.frontlineonnet.com/fl2101/st ... 400400.htm
January 03 - 16, 2004 CRACKDOWN IN BHUTAN
http://dailymailnews.com/200406/27/news/107.html (Paki source )
Operation 'All Clear' launched on 15 December 2003 was carried out by troops ex 21 Mountain Division belonging to 4 Corps, say the sources.
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1031218/a ... 692116.asp
Day-long sorties by Indian Army choppers between its 20 Mountain Division headquarters at Binaguri, around 65 km from Jalpaiguri, and places inside Bhutan suggested that casualties are heavy.
http://dailymailnews.com/200407/07/column.html Paki source again..
It has now been learnt through reliable sources that this operation was not conducted by Bhutan Army but some troops ex 4 corps (21 Mountain Division) of Indian army crossed the international border and conducted operation against the insurgent camps inside Bhutan. It has also been mentioned that Indian army personnel deputed to undertake operation inside Bhutan wore Bhutani Army uniform just to disguise their real identity and deceive the militants. In this operation Indian troops from 1, 2, 3 & 4 Naga Regiments and Assam Rifles were recognized as the participants of the operation conducted against the militants.
(There is no 3 & 4 Naga?)
http://orbat.com/site/agtwopen/newsarch ... y2004.html
Orbat.com sources confirm Indian troops participated directly in Bhutan's Operation All Clear, as opposed to simply catching insurgents as they fled into India to escape the Bhutan Army's advance. We have unit and formation details, but are withholding them till we get a few things clear for ourselves.

Operation Rhino II
Since March 15, 1992
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1041008/a ... 856954.asp
08 October Army build-up in Assam
Army sources confirmed today that a brigade that was held in reserve in Shillong had been moved to positions in Lower Assam. The brigade of about 3,000 jawans is in addition to the three divisions (about 45,000 troops) in the army’s 4 Corps deployed in Assam. Troops from the Shillong brigade would fan out in Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Goalpara districts.
http://www.indiadaily.com/editorial/10-07f-04.asp
As a first step, an entire Army brigade and 4,500 paramilitary personnel are being moved to beef the security apparatus. Use of helicopter gunships against insurgents has also been cleared.
http://www.rediff.com//news/2004/oct/08assam1.htm
Under Operation Rhino II, two full divisions of the army - 21 and 2 based at Rangiya and Dinjan respectively - are perpetually engaged in counter-insurgency operations in the last decade. The 24 Brigade, part of the 21 Division, is based in Meghalaya and is normally held in reserve. It will now be deployed in the western districts.

Yes.. 2004 only, or Ops relevant to events that happened last year.shishir wrote:Rishi,
Are you looking for information on ops conducted in 2004 only ?
And ,most of the IA ops have been going on for decades, as you can see. I am interested in the developments wrt these Ops in 2004. (Bhutan was Dec 2003, so including that)
Hi Rishi,
A request: Keep orbat portions directly sourced.
Ex. when writing
"In May 44 Bn RR conducted highly successful area dominance operations south of Kishtwar"
use the MS Word endnote feature to put a reference in right there. People in India get very upset when they see information without direct sources.
Putting in a direct source also benifits the people in India as they can see the source of something they don't like and directly go after the guy who put that information out there. The document you write on BR helps identify sources of information that might otherwise pass under the radar.
So the line should read:
"44 Bn RR conducted area dominance operations south of Kishtwar [4]"
[4] http://armyinkashmir/dailyreports/page5 ... 11203.html
The endnotes usually pool at the bottom of the word document. This part can then be marked "References" in the html conversion.

Hi,
Another explanatory note is needed on the naming issue.
Usually when the Army starts doing something the initial deployment phase has to be planned and executed. This is given a name - eg. Operation Rakshak. The name is usually chosen from a list of names of previous operations that were atleast conceptually simlar. For example Op Rakshak was the name given to a deployment in Punjab in the dark days. The name was recycled for use in J&K. This is done so that the planning people have a sense of what lies ahead.
Then depending on the response of the ground situation to the deployment i.e. whether it improves, stays the same, or degrades and depending on political perceptions of the conflict situation, the deployment pattern is changed by the very same machinery that set the initial deployment in the region. This is basically an extension of the same activity so the operational name is recycled and tagged with a number. Eg. Operation Rakshak III.
However every now and then - there is a completely new activity that emerges even in an existing operational area. This requires a reallocation of resources at the Army HQ level. This is then given a separate name. Example Operation Sarp Vinash. If this kind of operation is repeated several times - then the code name is also recycled. Example Operation All Clear, which is a code name used to take out terrorist bases on foreign soil with the cooperation of foreign forces (Bhutan, Burma)
There are also a number of defensive operations like Operation Falcon on the Arunachal LAC. These in turn are permanent operations - as long as the border crisis remains - the names are preserved.
I personally feel that the only time an operation name is not recycled - is when the first operation fails. Eg. Operation Pawan - I really doubt we will ever have another Operation Pawan. The name is simply bad luck. Operation names like Vijay, Cactus Lily, Night Dominance etc... are all associated with good luck and positive results and these names are frequently recycled. This is not a establishment view - this is just my opinion.
It is very important that this article is written because most people don't know what the sheer size of the Army's operational canvas. This article will pull it all together into one place and the awesome spread of everything the Army does will be visible. Actually from that perspective the details are somewhat irrelevant but since it is impossible to draw a sketch without the understanding of the details, it is best that they be included also. Rishi doesn't have to get everything - he just has to get the main ones and from that alone - people will see the stunning amount of work the Army people do in a single day.
