Our diplomatic babus are as ham handed as ever.

They should simply clamp down on the amerkhans and tighten the screws on a tit for tat basis

Solution for SRK in well-kept Delhi secret - Give actor red passport like Tata, US diplomat suggests in private conversation
Washington, April 15:

“Why don’t you give Shah Rukh Khan a diplomatic passport?” an American diplomat who met an Indian official socially during the weekend asked as their conversation inevitably veered towards the actor’s inconvenience at White Plains airport in New York on Thursday. “That will solve the problem for us the next time he travels to the United States.”

The Indian official was a little offended because he thought the American was being his usual smart Alec, but the latter insisted he was serious. “After all, you have given Ratan Tata a diplomatic passport. He always travels with the red passport,” the American continued.

As it happened, the Indian did not know that Tata had been given a diplomatic passport by New Delhi. This official had been away continuously on foreign postings for more than a decade and had not kept close track of such developments back home.

The American told him that he had once travelled first class with the industrialist, he had seen Tata’s diplomatic passport and when they both alighted at New York, Tata went to the special immigration enclosure for diplomatic passport-holders .

When S.M. Krishna became external affairs minister in May 2009, one of his earliest discretionary decisions was to issue a diplomatic passport to Tata, recognising his emergence as a global investor and industrialist who has to travel extensively worldwide, some of those trips on behalf of the government or representing his country.

The external affairs minister’s authority to issue diplomatic passports to non-diplomats and people who are not public servants travelling on official business is one of New Delhi’s best kept secrets, known to few outside the charmed circle of power around the capital’s Raisina Hill.

I.K. Gujral issued privileged diplomatic passports to so many of his friends without rhyme or reason until K.C. Singh, who was then chief passport officer, put his foot firmly down and refused to carry out Gujral’s orders as external affairs minister and later as Prime Minister.

It is another of New Delhi’s best known secrets that although the chief passport officer is usually a mere joint secretary in the ministry of external affairs, he acquires immense powers once he takes office and is almost a semi-constitutional authority as the guardian of the Passports Act of 1967.

However, other than K.C. Singh in the case of Gujral, only one other chief passport officer in recent memory, T.C.A. Rangachari, has exercised the extraordinary powers bestowed on him under an Act of Parliament.

Americans are used to political solutions more than bureaucratic ones: in fact, the entire phalanx of their bureaucracy, made up of political appointees, changes each time a new US President is elected. So it was not surprising that a political solution to the Shah Rukh Khan controversy came to the American diplomat’s mind to avoid dragging down Indo-US relations over this trivial issue.

Meanwhile, SRK continued to shadow Indo-US relations even though the actor had left stateside after completing his schedule at Yale. When Nirupama Rao, India’s ambassador to the US, made a public appearance yesterday at Columbia University’s prestigious annual “India Business Conference,” she was peppered with questions from reporters about Khan instead of the subject of the conference: “India: Maintaining Momentum.”

Once again, Rao was restrained and at her diplomatic best when she said it was an “incident that need not have happened.” She is anxious to put the whole controversy behind as quickly as possible.

When reporters persisted with their questions, Rao referred to yesterday’s press release issued by the Indian mission here and said “We would like to leave it at that.”

South Block’s division dealing with the US is equally disinclined to make a mountain of the Khan molehill, but being too close to the public and political outcry over the actor’s inconvenience, it has less flexibility than Indian officials in far away US.

The Americas division in South Block is headed by Jawed Ashraf, whose reputation as a veteran in dealing with the US is so outstanding that his was the second appointment Rao made when she became foreign secretary in 2009 even though Ashraf had not yet become a joint secretary. She asked him to cut short his stay in Washington to take charge of relations with the US at headquarters.

Apart from the need to elevate Indo-US discourse from the 75-minute airport delay faced by a hero of the silver screen, there is another reason why neither Rao nor Ashraf can press the Americans too hard on Khan’s problems the way New Delhi’s political leadership would like them to act.

India is equally if not more unbending and inflexible on matters of visas for Americans, other immigration issues and security at its airports. If the Indians were to make too much of an issue of Khan’s problems and make other similarly unreasonable demands, the Americans could throw similar incidents in New Delhi on South Block’s face.

A recent incident in which India took a principled, but firm stand, just like the immigration agents who handled Khan’s entry into the US, happened when Janet Napolitano, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, visited New Delhi and Mumbai last May. Incidentally, it was Napolitano’s officials who handled Khan’s arrival for his talk at Yale.

When Napolitano was leaving New Delhi for Mumbai, her entourage insisted that everyone who was part of it should be exempted from security checks at Palam airport. Indian authorities flatly refused, and following rules, they said only Napolitano would be exempt as she is a member of the US cabinet.

The Americans then arrogantly told Indian officials at the airport if everyone in Napolitano’s delegation was not exempt from security, then nobody would go to Mumbai for the second leg of the visit.

Frantic consultations went on between various agencies in New Delhi while Napolitano’s special aircraft remained parked on Palam’s bay, well behind its scheduled departure. But the Indians stood their ground and said everyone on her delegation except Napolitano would be screened or they could chose not to fly at all and stay in New Delhi. The Americans relented.

When this delegation was leaving Mumbai back to Washington, the Americans repeated the same demands. Unfortunately the Maharashtra government’s protocol department lost nerve and allowed the whole entourage to leave without being security-checked.

When some private citizen goes to US on some normal visa and gets to be checked, why is the Indian government involved in this idiotically? It make sense to protest if some diplomat or government official gets to checked against established protocols.

US diplomat right in this. What they did in airport is within established procedures. India got some Idiotic and ineffective foreign ministry people.

From the first link, the whole of yesterday the impartial media had us belive that one of the participants of beef festival was stabbed by the Evil fascist RSS only. but the truth again is different and organisers of the beef festival are not innocent.
A second-year Arts student, T Rama Rao, was stabbed on Monday for making a reportedly inflammatory speech against the ‘beef festival’ organised by students of a particular caste who are pressing for beef to be included in the university’s hostel menu.

+1. India and Indians are used to this VIP culture, and expect the world also to follow the same. Acting in movies and strutting around as a great star (in India) does not make one immune to security checks in other countries. Infact US has been pretty much consistent in showing the Indian actors that they cannot try their nautanki in USA. What is the contribution of these jokers to the nation? They hold no government positions and do not represent in GoI in any official capacity. I see that the media, the government and the same bunch of actors make no fuss when a common Indian citizen is taken in for extra security checks.

BTW, remember the old case of Kamal Hasan getting pulled in for special round of questioning in Toronto? And also see the name of the chap who was picked up for the Bengaluru stadium bomb blast.
Kamal Hassan grilled in Toronto airport
Kamal Hassan arrested in connection with KSCA bomb blast

Giving these movie fellows Red Passports is only going to open up a Pandora's box. If any one is totally worthless to carry such passports, IMHO it is the Indian movie industry gang.

Indian Mujahideen chief got passport in Shah Rukh Khan’s name

No harm in these jokers including SRK original cooling his heels at some rube airport in the US.

Are they gods or what??

Today it may be the movie wallah, tomorrow it will be some hardened criminal or don who gets the same because of some political quid pro quo.

It's madness for the GOI to get into such a scenario at all .

Instant Retaliation is the best way to keep this menace under some check

Actually< I like what the GOI is doing, Khan has been meddling and pushing certain fundoo agendas and playing hero all this while, like NM visa row etc etc. Many Indian Minorities had this very good opinion of Khan being very fair and India being ebil society. Such stories shatter these myths, I love such controversies as its puts our Media in a real mix. The more Khan's image amoungst the followers of leftist brigade in India the better.

Don't think it would matter, since people like APJ Kalam and George Fernandes were detained or frisked as well. Plus the USG is well aware that various high level GoI functionaries play politics with terrorism (revealed in Wikileaks cable). Granting them a red passport should be encouraged, so foreign governments can focus on screening these people, and ordinary citizens can be spared.

Islamic Gift to Bengali Hindus in Bengali New Year: Chopped Cow-head in Shiva Temple.
18/04/2012 12:43:13 http://hinduexistence.wordpress.com/201 ... in-bengal/

The Bengali Hindus could never think that such a unique and unexpected gift is waiting for them, on their very auspicious ceremony, the Bengali New Year 1419. Bengalis are habituated to have unexpected gifts, be it in 1946, 1947 or 1948 or in 1971 and even today; they can see it in the constant attacks on them. Now the muslims have prepared themselves to give them hateful gifts.

While Bengali women were preparing to worship their mud-made traditional stoves as par the rituals, the communal to the core Muslims threw before their chaste temple the thing that they can’t even watch: chopped cow-head.

Last night at Budha locality of Asansol, West Bengal, some communal to the core muslim boys plotted a chopped cow-head at around 3pm last night in the coward way that suits them perfectly. This is the traditional way of the muslim run atrocities on Hindus: abduct Hindu women and plunder their chastity, behead Hindu men, unchaste and vandalize their temples by prohibited stuffs like Beef. This time history took a repeat performance.

While the local women of the Budha locality were going early morning to worship the deity of Lord Shiva inside the temple, they found that a chopped cow-head has been plotted at the entrance. Some of them fell sick at the mere visuals of the thing, they vomited. The outraged women then called the males and urged to take the matter seriously.

Some muslims were standing there in a casual motive apparently, to do a Reece of the situation. As soon as they realized the magnitude of the outrage in the Hindu community, they alerted the already prepared muslims who were in battle-ready mode.

They have already informed the police of Asansol, who have historically been active to serve the communal to the core Muslims. Also the local ward councilor of ward no 8 of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mr. Gurudas Chatterjee (Rocket-da); both the councilor and the corporation politically affiliated to TMC which considers its political color to be jihadist green; have been informed by the communal to the core muslims themselves to create a shield around them. As obvious they un-listened the complaints of the Hindus and threatened to remove the head so that the news doesn’t spread. Rocket wanted to camouflage the musilm communalism. The angry Hindu youth then protested and encircled the head with bricks. At this the police was called in and a Lathicharge was launched to dismantle the Hindu protesters. The Hindus have seen in recent past how easily they have been subjected to police bullets. So the Hindus afraid, fled for a moment and the Muslim youth laughed at their backs with a taunt how you Hindus fall prey before our nasty will.

Image

Then in a helpless situation in a loss what to do, how to obtain justice they contacted the Bengali news channels like Kolkata TV, Star Anando, News Time etc but strangely none even took any interest to cover the story, probably not to make their Islamic masters angry.

When a VHP operative called the local correspondent of Kolkata TV, Mr. Venkateshwar Lahidi at his phone numbers 9674#665#7 and 9832#144#5. He took the calls, prepared to note down the news but then his pen halted as he realized he was being requested to cover the Muslim communalism; he disconnected the call. Similar treatments were received in all the cases with all the Bengali media houses.

Except Asansol TV not even a single news channel telecasted this news, because this might cause decrements in their petro-dollars.

The local Hindus consulted the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and lodged an FIR against the already pointed communal to the core Muslim youths.

When Asansol News correspondents interviewed the local Hindu boys, they were looking not afraid but outraged. “If those bloody cowards do really have the guts, then they should sometime attempt to hit me with their crowded mass, when I am alone. Why they pursue their frustration on poor cows? We never do that against their divine pigs! But yes, after looking at their history and culture it probably suits them I feel,” said a Hindu youngster Aniruddha Konar.

Another local girl Moumita Dawn reacted, “We are taught communal harmony, but how far can we maintain this? Are only the Hindus responsible to maintain harmony? Won’t they take any effort to maintain harmony? This is not any one way traffic.”

Though the police were discouraging the public to shoot any videos and no journalist from the Bengali TV channels were present over there, a team under the guidance of Asansol News operatives Gautam pandit and Abhed Acharya got themselves at the rooftops of the local houses and shot from there the happenings. As the police realized there is no option open, they threatened to lathicharge and they did it finally to dismantle the Hindu protesters, so that they could easily take away the evidence of the Islamic communalism.

Everything is on record by Asansol News and it forwarded a copy of the clippings to Asansol TV to telecast. The other Bengali channels have passed a message to the public of Asansol that they will no way expose the real face of communal muslims in India.

After the crowd was vandalized, the police hurriedly took the head away. Within hours, the VHP and Hindu Jagran Manch Asansol lodged an FIR against unknown perpretators in Asansol South police station. Though locals have pointed out fingers to some muslim youngsters who were frustrated enough at the last world cup victory of India against Pakistan, to make an attempt to vandalize the celebration of the young Hindu boys and girls in Budha Aagori pada. That time they were beaten back and since then are always planning to retaliate in some conventional coward manner.

However the police made every possible attempt to discourage the Hindu leaders to take the issue further, they didn’t permit to do a rally protesting the communalism. On 15thof April a crucial meet has been called by Hindu Jagran Manch and VHP to discuss the future course of action.

When Asansol News visited the HJM operatives, they were angry and stable both simultaneously. “I know we are living in a camouflaged democracy, camouflaged secularism in India, but that does not mean we wont expect our basic freedom of worship. Every time they vandalize our temples (last week they vandalized a temple in Sripur area) and then their leaders pass unity-messages. This cunning game wont make any long run. This dualism will not be tolerated,” said Sanjay Paswan, the gen secy of HJM Asansol.

By now they are planning to march a silent rally with the theme “NO FREEDOM TO PROTEST”.

Bangladeshi call girls or undercover agents?
The official said that the Bangladeshi girls who look like Indians, may be ‘informers’ in the guise of prostitutes. “They could be used to get close to people to fulfil their hidden agenda, which is expanding the fake currency racket in different parts of the country,” sources said.

However, the cops are not optimistic about exposing the real truth. According to sources, the law does not support the arrest of the prostitutes as they are considered victims and the police have no proof to claim that the girls are from Banglasdesh, as they have documents to prove that they are Indians.

Maoists kill two security guards, kidnap Collector in Chattisgarh

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/a ... epage=true
Cadres of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) abducted Alex Paul Menon, the Collector of Chhattisgarh’s troubled Sukma District at about 4:30 Pm on Saturday evening. Mr. Menon was returning from a village meeting when a group of between 15 and 20 Maoists stopped his entourage at Manjipara village, about 8 km from Kerlapal, a village on National Highway 221.

Sukma’s Superintendent of Police, Abhishek Shandilya said the Maoists also killed two personal security officers who accompanied the Collector.

Mr. Menon’s abduction comes at a time when, just across the state border, the Odisha government is involved in protracted negotiations to free Jhina Hikaka, an MLA who was kidnapped by the Maoists on March 24. Earlier this month, the guerillas released two Italians who had also been kidnapped in Odisha. Last year, the party abducted the R. Vineel Krishna, the Collector of Malkangiri, an Odisha district bordering Sukma. Mr. Krishna was released after the state government agreed to a list of demands.

“We are organizing a search party to look for the Collector. We have not received any demands from the Maoists as yet,” Mr. Shandilya said.

“We were conducting a Gram Swaraj Abhiyaan across the district and so we had been traveling with the Collector since the morning,” said Surendra Prasad Vaid, Sukma’s Sub Divisional Magistrate, in an interview over the telephone, “In the morning, the Collector visited the interior villages near Badde Setti and Sam Setti on a motorcycle and returned to Kerlapal for lunch.”

After lunch, Mr. Vaid said, a team of about 25 to 30 civil administration officials accompanied Mr. Menon to a farmers meeting in Manjipara. “Ten minutes after we arrived, the shooting started,” said Mr. Vaid, “As the crowd dispersed, a group of Maoists came and first shot the Collector’s guard. The other guard tried to run, but the Maoists killed him as well.”

Mr. Vaid said the Collector quickly got into his Tata Safari vehicle and started to leave when three Maoists stopped his vehicle. “There were three of us in the car when they stopped us and started shouting ‘Who is the Collector? Who is the Collector’. The Collector identified himself, and they took him away,” said Mr. Vaid.
Maoists holding Jhina Hikaka hostage make fresh demand

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi ... 812086.cms
Maoist rebels holding Odisha legislator Jhina Hikaka hostage for more than three weeks on Saturday demanded the release of all members of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) in exchange for his release.

The rebels had earlier sought the release of 29 prisoners, mostly members of the CMAS, which works mainly in the southern parts of the state, including Malkangiri and Koraput districts, on tribal-related issues

Things are really going bad in Odisha and Chattisgarh states. I don't know if this is part of some sinister bigger agenda. But as I see it, I see that the state government is pretty useless. I don't see any enthusiasm from their side, in resolving or even addressing any problem in their territory. No wonder Naxalites are having a field day here. Honestly I feel the resoluteness shown by governments (and police) of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra is way better than these two cases.

Sachin- Naxal problem in Bastar has been there since 1980's, give it time along with a friendly Central Governments and if Friendly State Govt emerge in MH and AP, then naxals operations will wind down pretty quickly. I think the Naxals who abducted the deputy collector are demanding charges be dropped against Media favorite Binayak Sen.

PATNA: Nine French tourists were detained in Bihar's Nawada district for violating visa conditions and later sent out of the state on Sunday, police said.

Bihar police chief Abhyanand told IANS over telephone that the French tourists were detained for violating visa rules as they participated in a meeting organised by an NGO.

"We got information Saturday that some French tourists were moving in the interior part of Nawada. We alerted district police that located them as they were moving with members of the NGO in its padyatra and participated in a meeting," he said.

Abhyanand said that it amounted to violation of visa rules as they had tourist visas but took part in the activities of the NGO.

"It was an open violation of tourist visas," he said.

According to officials in Nawada, the French tourists were sent outside the state following an order from the state administration.

Police also informed the French embassy about the incident.

I think this holding strategy that we have irrespective of UPA or NDA govts is not working. You have to really go after them using counter-insurgency operations and liquidate them. Otherwise security forces will continue to die in dozens as they are sitting ducks. The GOI has a "soft" policy towards Naxals as compared to say J&K, Punjab or NE.

No the soft policy is a UPA policy. There was almost no naxal movement when NDA was in power. Shivraj "where is my suite" Patel of "these are our misguided young men" fame, let the naxals move in without lifting a finger, even as state govts were begging for center to act.

There are many reasons which are speculated for sudden spurt in naxal activity in non UPA ruled states after UPA came to power (combined with a sudden and mysterious decline in UPA ruled states within six months, without any action)

Army is now guiding the operations in naxal states (not directly involved but only playing an advisory/planning role), Mi17's were bought to give more air support to CRPF ops because IAF said they are overstretched, NTRO will now be using UAVs for intel gathering.

But a big problem is now corruption by INC - most development funds allocated to the districts are being pocketed by the officials and hardly anything is trickling down.

Govt’s cyber security plan ready for activation

For the first time since the advent of dedicated computer networks in the Indian government, the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) has come up with a comprehensive cyber security policy for upgrading the security of systems and preventing them from being hacked, attacked with malware,
or intruded upon by hostile entities.

The policy will designate and authorise agencies to firewall the Indian system against intrusions, certified for security level for link-ups, with the capability of launching counter-attacks. The NSCS is all set to take the first three-pronged Indian cyber security plan to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for approval.

The overall cyber plan has been worked out by Lt Gen (Retd) Prakash Menon, military advisor, NSCS, under the guidance of national security advisor (NSA) Shiv Shankar Menon.

Headed by a national cyber security coordinator, who reports to the NSA, the plan has three components that demarcate task and authority. The existing Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) will be tasked to handle the commercial aspects of cyber security, including 24x7 proactive responses to hackers, cyber-attacks, intrusions and restoration of affected systems.

The second aspect of the cyber plan is the creation of a technical-professional body that certifies the security of a network to ensure the overall health of government systems. While NSCS is advocating that initially the certification of networks could be done by private agencies, the long term plan is to create a technical body of professionals, all under 40, who will form the backbone of Indian cyber security.

The third aspect of the plan is cyber defence of critical infrastructure networks that are vulnerable to hostile foreign governments or proxy entities

bumped into this article by tehelka about christian conversions and foreign funds, but not sure of the date it was published on. Please delete if already posted.

http://www.tehelka.com/story_main.asp?f ... a.asp&id=1

Its a 5 page long story, so am unable to post all the main points discussed. However, the report itself is alarming, mainly becuase of its references to US based organizations that fund these conversions and also the tactics adopted by the missionaries to convert people in north india in particular and india in general. Truly shocking!

Some of the content quoted here:
Taking a leaf out of what Tiplady calls "Al Qaeda's operational mobility", American missionary organisations are, methodically and very scientifically, planting the Church and recruiting disciples, pincer-style. With George W Bush, a "born again" Christian as the President of United States, the missionary enterprise is in full gear, trying to "save (Indian) souls" and "reach the unreached".
The modus operandi for evangelical activities is simple, even if scary: Channel exorbitant funds through the eager Bush administration; circumvent the Indian law banning registration of new missionaries by sending "men of God" on tourist visas; use Indians already converted to convert fresh faithfuls. And yes, the underlying message: work relentlessly and patiently.
Simply put, the strategy is to plant a church in every village and urban colony and notch up a figure of 100,000 churches in the state by 2010. "We cannot say we have any challenge here because Punjab is open. All religions are respected and we can go freely to everybody. The most difficult states to evangalise are Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh because extremist Hindus are there," says Simon P George, manager, Punjab Bible College, Hiran (near Ludhiana).
According to Christian Aid, a foreign missionary costs at least $66,000 or Rs 30.4 lakh a year to support. Native missionaries cost approximately $600 or Rs 27,600 a year. The running expenses for Believers Church Bible college in Solan is Rs 2 lakh a month. The Believers Church pays Rs 5,000 a month to an Indian missionary with a family in Himachal Pradesh. The North Indian Christian Mission-which carries out conversions in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and J&K-pays its missionaries Rs 10,000 a month.
What should have by now been picked up by the government is the fact that only a fraction of the total money flowing into the country is reported. (see http://www.tehelka.com for a detailed funding list). "They (funds) do not come here directly. There are many different offices in South India. The funds come directly to those offices and from there it is distributed. For example, funds meant for Himachal Pradesh pastors are forwarded from offices in AP, Tamil Nadu and Kerala," Rao told Tehelka. Apart from TMOs, Christian NGOs are also part of this network. For instance, World Vision, the world's largest Christian NGO ministry, fuses evangelical activities with development work. "World Vision is mainly focusing on social work. Through social work, they are doing an excellent job. Through social work they are able to share the Gospel," says Rao.
His special focus is Uttar Pradesh. The goal of the Agape movement in UP is the same as in Punjab: one million house-churches and 100,000 church leaders by 2010. With a population of over 174 million people, UP has a miniscule population of Christians: 0.1 percent. "I look at the UP mission simply as a model for what can be done… together we can start such a powerful movement inspired by the Holy Spirit to take this nation within our generation," says brother Mohan Phillip of AGAPE UP mission.
Tehelka's undercover operation resulted in the unearthing of many church planters. Rev Don Scribner of the US-based Joshua Project revealed that Dr Raju Abraham coordinates the North India Harvest Network from Delhi and is also in charge of Operation Agape's Uttar Pradesh mission. He strategised the evangelical operations in UP by dividing the whole state into 83 districts, 1,000 administrative blocks each with 100,000 to 150,000 people and 100 to 150 villages. "A team of two persons adopt each block. The state is witnessing an unprecedented woo of God and thousands of churches are being planted." The goal, of course, is the same as has been outlined for all the North Indian states.
Not too worried about meeting the same fate, he was candid, saying: "We need to usher Jesus into the scene. We know this country … it is oppressed by Satanic powers and spirits. Demonincally… people are being bound. Many are demonically possessed. It is so hard to penetrate to the Gospel. Our plan is to teach and build every believer to be an intercessor."
Abraham told Tehelka categorically and it's on tape: "In Andhra Pradesh, hundreds of Muslims are coming to the Lord. Islam does not appeal to their mind, especially after September 11." Operation Agape's estimate is that across India, "150 million Dalits and around 150 million from the other backward castes (OBC) are coming to the Lord."
Yet, Tehelka came across an excessive use of warfare terminologies during its undercover field investigations and in the documents in its possession. Words such as 'soldier', 'advance', 'mobilise', 'campaign', 'conquer' and so on are commonly used. In fact, the literature of the American TMOs use descriptions that could be considered incendiary by people of other faiths. For instance, Bush's closest ally, Pat Robertson, has described Hinduism and Islam as Satanic religions and the worship of these religions is akin to 'devil worship'. Others have described Varanasi as the "seat of Satan." In fact, Varanasi is considered an important 'beachhead' by US evangelical organisations because it is "India's holiest cities".
The reality is that India's marginalised communities are indeed powerless. Independent India has failed to empower Dalits and tribals. The church has stepped in to provide them development services, which really fall within the government of India's ambit.
But conversions in India, as they are happening today, are not merely about empowering the poor. It is about a sinister and subversive strategy, hatched in the US, backed by the Bush administration over the years.

NSCN-Assam Rifles stand-off continues
Newmai News
DIMAPUR/IMPHAL, April 22 – The stand off between the Assam Rifles and the NSCN-IM completed four days today with no sign of easing and has spread to Manipur.

The current quagmire was triggered by the Thursday incident where the NSCN-IM had detained five Assam Rifles jawans after snatching their weapons. The Assam Rifles personnel traveling in a truck allegedly ‘trespassed’ into Hebron Camp area violating the ceasefire ground rules which prompted the Naga militants to act, a source said.

On Friday, about 200 jawans of Assam Rifles placed themselves in all the approach roads to Hebron Camp, off Dimapur and conducted intense frisking. Four senior NSCN-IM leaders were detained for the whole day and released in the evening by the Assam Rifles. They were heading for Hebron Camp for a meeting, according to the source.

In Manipur, security forces personnel in large numbers have been rushed to the vicinity of NSCN-IM designated camps as a pre-emptive move. Sources said that personnel of 10th Dogra Regiment are carrying out intense patrolling near the NP Battalion of the NSCN-IM designated camp at Piulong (Buning) near Tamei in Tamenglong district while personnel of Assam Rifles are doing the same at Hothrong Brigade of the Naga outfit near Oklong in Senapati district and in Chandel district.

A source said that Kishumung Battalion of the NSCN-IM in Ukhrul district is also facing similar ‘provocation’ from the Assam Rifles.

A separate source said that chairman of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG), government of India Maj Gen (retired) N George is camping in Dimapur to diffuse the highly charged situation.

Meanwhile, weapons of the Assam Rifles personnel confiscated by the NSCN-IM are yet to be returned, according to sources.

What does "intense" frisking and intense patrolling mean? :-?

Rs 2cr pardon for Marines
A lawyer for the families said they also passed on a signed note, the crux of which said they had forgiven the two Marines in the name of Jesus Christ.
Obviously, church is involved in this settlement.

Yes. Surprisingly it took Rs. 1 crore for these folks to understand Jesus Christ, so that they can use HIS name to pardon the two marines ;). No Rs. 1 crore = No pardon in the name of Christ as well.. simple.

But looks like the criminal case against the Marines would go on. And yes the Church did play a role here. Infact Malayalam TV channels showed a few speeches by padres from the fisherfolk community pontificating about the whole thing.

Kerala High Court shows its displeasure to the relatives
The court used an old saying "സായിപ്പിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ കവാത്ത് മറന്നു", which means the native soldier forgot his drill (in awe or in fright) when he saw the Saheb.

At least unlike the Pakis, the courts have not pardoned the murderers so the case should go on.

If I am not mistaken, certain cases such as some criminal type cases, can not be withdrawn even when the people who have complained are not needed. The Police has to carry out investigation, even if people who complained do not ever have to appear in court.

Pardon my lack of legal acumen but unsure of how accurate this is. Indeed by 'pardoning', foreigners should not subvert process of law in India.

What would Europeans say if Indians shoot sleeping Italians and try running away etc. and then pay 2 crores to close complaints after some sadhus intervene? Definitely not perfectly secular.

Actually, GoI attorney general (?) said in the court that Kerala Police has no right to arrest or charge the marines. The incident took place outside of Kerala state. Their goes the legal nature of criminal case.
