Hungary to sell 24 of its MiG-29s. These may be available dirt cheap..perhaps the IAF could purchase them and put them through the UPG upgrade and get itself another squadron of MiG-29s to tide over the numbers crisis?

Israeli F-35s to carry indigenous missiles
"At least one main weapon system" for the nation's conventional take-off and landing F-35As will be of Israeli origin, sources related to the issue said on 17 April. The Israeli air force has previously expressed its wish to equip the type with a nationally-developed new-generation air-to-air missile.

One potential candidate is Rafael. The company is already working on a new "Stunner" missile as part of the "David's Sling" rocket interceptor, being developed in cooperation with Raytheon. The same type could also be adapted for use as an air-to-air weapon.

The delivery of a first batch of around 20 F-35s to the Israeli air force is expected in early 2017. Negotiations on a further contract for 20-25 additional aircraft is expected to begin next year.

While the first batch of aircraft will carry the integral electronic warfare system being supplied under the Lockheed-led Joint Strike Fighter programme, it is expected that this will later be "enhanced" by additional units developed in Israel.

YF-23 failed to cut in due to production related issue , they could not deliver the aircraft in the numbers that USAF wanted in the desired time , plus USAF was not entirely convinced that only stealth would do the trick , they chose YF-22 because it was more manouverable and has good stealth though not as good at the black widow.

South Korea Unveils New Missiles
South Korea on Thursday unveiled two new missiles capable of hitting targets anywhere in North Korea. The Hyunmu-3 cruise missile has a range of 1,500 km and is capable of precision attacks on key North Korean facilities, including nuclear and missile installations, while the Hyunmu-2 ballistic missile has a 300 km range and can destroy a target the size of scores of a soccer field.
The Hyunmu-3 is said to be more accurate than the U.S.-made Tomahawk cruise missile with a range of between 1,300 km to 2,500 km. It can be launched from both ground-based mobile platforms and Aegis-class destroyers and submarines.
The Hyunmu-2 ballistic missile's range is restricted to 300 km due to a treaty with the U.S. that limits the reach of South Korea's missiles, but could apparently travel up to 500 km. It can hit targets with 30 m accuracy.

The one hour video was really good and professionally made. Didnt know Mig-23 was one of the first aircrafts to get a experimental lift jet in the body to reduce take-off length.

Embraer hopes to fly first modernised AMX before July

Embraer hopes to have its first modernized Brazilian air force AMX jet flying before July, the company says in its first quarter earnings report.

Two flight test aircraft and eight production jets are already at the airframer's facilities awaiting their upgrades. Embraer says a total of 43 aircraft will be modernised under the programme. The AMX jets were originally co-produced with Italy.

The modernisation adds glass cockpit displays, new electronic countermeasures, and other items.[/url]

US deploys F-22 fighter jets to UAE: officials
The United States has deployed sophisticated F-22 fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates amid deepening tensions between Iran and its pro-US neighbors, officials said Monday.
The US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, would not say how many F-22s would be sent to the Al-Dhafra air base in the United Arab Emirates. Military officers tend to avoid publicly discussing details of operations at the US air base.
An Air Force spokeswoman confirmed that a number of F-22 Raptors, the most advanced fighter in the US fleet, would be deployed to the region without mentioning the base or Iran.
The United States Air Force has deployed F-22s to Southwest Asia. Such deployments strengthen military-to-military relationships, promote sovereign and regional security, improve combined tactical air operations, and enhance interoperability of forces, equipment and procedures,” said Major Mary Danner-Jones.
Pentagon spokesman Captain John Kirby told reporters the move “was a very normal deployment” in keeping with an adjustment of US forces in the region following the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.
Territorial disputes between Iran and the United Arab Emirates over three islands in the Gulf have flared recently, with Washington voicing support for Abu Dhabi’s stance.
The argument over the Gulf islands comes against the backdrop of tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, with the US, European and Israeli governments fearing Tehran is pursuing a clandestine nuclear weapons project.Iran’s atomic ambitions and growing missile arsenal have raised concerns in Gulf Arab states, which have negotiated arms deals with Washington to build up missile defenses as a counter to Iran.
In December, the United States announced a $3.48 billion arms sale with the United Arab Emirates for missile defense batteries and radars.
Looks like most of the problems with the F-22 fleet have been overcome, so now its being deployed in war theatre's, might soon see action

If sh*t hits the fan in Syria, I bet the F22 would be the last to enter the party (Not until all the S-300s are neutralized) .. But that would be enough to make the USAF PR dudes go bonkers

Nigerian AF F-7NI crashes near Kaduna. This is the 3rd crash of a F-7NI since the deliveries began in 2009. As per this article, Nigeria paid $220 million for 15 F-7NIs (works out to approx $15 million each) and $32 million for 20 live PL-9C AAM, 10 training PL-9 rounds, unguided rockets, and 250/500 kg bombs.

Israeli know-how boosts Russia's armed UAS project
Technology transferred from Israel is helping Russia to design its first strike unmanned air system, with the design expected to be flown for the first time in 2014 carrying sensors and armament.

Russia approached Israel to assist in developing unmanned systems after its RSK MiG-29 fighters shot down Elbit Systems-made Hermes 450 air vehicles operated by the Georgian air force during the war between the countries in 2008.

Moscow first purchased two types of UAS made by Israel Aerospace Industries under a deal worth $50 million: the BirdEye 400 and the improved Searcher 2. It then finalised a deal for more-advanced systems, sources say, which also for the first time included the transfer of some supporting technologies.

Israeli sources say the deals signed so far have included only "basic technology used in small systems", but others claim the transfer has enabled Russian industry to make a "big leap" during the development of the new armed type.

Mi-38 ready for serial production 'soon', with certification in 2015
Russian Helicopters' Kazan factory is building a third prototype of a new model, the Mil Mi-38, which fits between the 36-passenger Mi-17 and the 82-passenger heavylift Mi-26.

The aircraft is designed to carry up to 40 passengers with a maximum take-off weight of 15.6t and payload of 6t carried internally or by sling.

Development has been held up by delays to a new Klimov engine, though this will be powering the third prototype, with Pratt & Whitney power having got the first two aircraft flying for evaluation by Russian Helicopters' Mil design bureau in Moscow.

Kazan plant manager Vadim Ligay says the aircraft is now on schedule to enter serial production "soon", and he expects Moscow to have the aircraft certified, with Klimov TV7-117V engines, in 2015.

Capt. Jeff Haney was flying the Air Force's next-generation stealth F-22 Raptor on a routine training mission in Alaska in November 2010 when a sudden malfunction cut off his oxygen completely. Capt. Haney never made a distress call but took his plane into a dive and, a little over a minute later, crashed into the winter wilderness at faster than the speed of sound.
After a lengthy investigation, an Air Force Accident Investigation Board could not find the cause of the malfunction but determined "by clear and convincing evidence" that in addition to other factors, Haney was to blame for the crash because he was too distracted by his inability to breathe to fly the plane properly.
A comment in the article -
"Haney was to blame for the crash because he was too distracted by his inability to breathe to fly the plane properly."
That has *got to be the most ridiculous statement I've ever read. Reminds me of the time I was at fault when a giant spike pierced my face and I became so distracted by the blood I could no longer operate my vehicle.

well the A320 faced some severe crashes too initially, incl one that took down a prototype plane itself.
let us see if the root causing is honest or a cover up first.

The crash of the Sukhoi does not bother me. What does is two things:
1) That in 2012 that civilian plane did not have a functioning (?????) terrain avoidance system, and
2) That is 2012 it would take that long to locate a civilian plane, some 40 miles from a major hub!!!

This is a black day for all of us.
