First one with reflectors is a missile target. Second one is a barge for taking the mud away after periodically dredging the anchorage. The Amba river flows into Mumbai harbour with its silt.Aditya G wrote:Looks like missile targets:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%26T_Daewoo_K11Equipped with a laser range-finder as well as a ballistics computer, the K11 allows the operator to quickly find the distance to a target and launch an air burst shell. The shell will then detonate a few meters away from the target.[9]
An electronic scope is integrated on the K11; it can be linked to a goggle system with a digital display. The display can be used during nighttime with thermal imaging, and shows the range information from the laser range-finder.
The weapon is compatible with standard 20- or 30-round 5.56 mm NATO magazines, and can hold 6-round magazines of 20 mm shells, at one time.[10]

While searching for more pictures of the IAF Bombardier aircraft, I came across this fairly close-up shot:
http://jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=7423655&nseq=1
I noticed on the port-side of the fuselage, the word "Experimental".
Any idea what this means? Is the aircraft still awaiting full operational clearance/certification?

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
It is the INMARSAT antenna.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
These could be soldiers from the Sagar Prahari Bal, we see these guys on guarding Naval installations etc....jamwal wrote:Another picture of MARCOS in their new gear:

AFAIK, Marcos never show up their faces...
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Are you sure it is not also an INMARSAT antenna?Vishal Jolapara wrote: That ^ is a Trailing Cone
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
I think he's right. The Antenna itself is probably under the fairing. Now that I think of it, I don't see any particular advantage to towing an aircraft antenna behind the airframe. A static pressure measuring probe, on the other hand...

Hiten, Sorry to disappoint you but this is not with IAF. It will in all probability land up with ARC. As for the roundel and fin flash, all Indian military aircraft use this including Indian Navy and Indian Army.Hiten wrote:^^

August 8th 2012: Sistership departing Shannon for Tel Aviv
Its NOT a close-up but, the same image i've thumbnailed in a smaller size (click on it for the larger image).
Its shot at the same time (he's wrongly mentioned the date as 7/2 instead of 8/2) by a colleague of Siege except the image you've posted is slightly blurry.
Pls try thumbnailing an image which is above 1000px (except for something Extra-Ordinary) as it screws-up the page size & causes unnecessary bandwith issues when viewed off devices other than home pc.
The Omega DC10 Tanker supporting USN F18 Super Hornets at both the Aero Indias too had the Experimental decal

While i dont have the exact definitive answer but, from what i know: aircraft that haven't been fully certified by the country's respective Aviation authority/whose type certificate has been withdrawn (for e.g., Concorde) or an a/c which has modifications done which aren't fully authorised/suported by the manufacturer has to have that decal placed on its fuselage until the Locha is sorted...... or something like thatAshwin B wrote:I noticed on the port-side of the fuselage, the word "Experimental".

P1: When did the Indian Air Force get a Global Express? Or was it some other country's plane?
P2: @P1 Global Express or Globe Master ??
P1: @P2 Global Express... The Bombardier one. Was all white and then I saw the logo on the engine. Could be Italy also. Similar rings.

VJ: @P1 Roger That!

VJ: @P1 Keeda-Kaandi is inside!
P2: @P1 @VJ unless it was delivery flight for ARC, will check from Bombardier Regional Sales mgr tomorrow!!
