Hey all,
I will be attending the show aswell. on friday and on saturday, people shooting, be careful, large lens cameras are not allowed unless u have a press pass, you have been warned. I will be there with the Dassault Aviation Group and Airbus Industrie, I have an invitation from them,. Anyone need extra info on the rafale tell me, lookin forward to seeing the strike eagles perform and the sarang acrobatic team, never saw them in India. Cheers

WTH??!!

This Gorshkov article posted by Grip talks about fitting a steam catapult on the ship. Does anyone knwo anything about this? This is the first I'm hearing about catapult launches from the Gorshkov.

Well, the Frontline article on Gorshkov talked about a (gun?)powder catapult. So rumors flying around, but nothing definitive yet.

Storm Shadow missile wins industry award

Airshow was not so dissappointing as shown in the articles and stuff.

ALH were superb couldn't beleive my eyes at first with the red and the peacock pait scheme it looked quite nice. The best was when the ALH took a steep vertical climb and then almost stalled at 80 degrees or so and did a cartweel and came back down it was just unbelievabale. To add to all the ALH has got negotiations going with CHILE and ISRAEL at the moment with other coutries in the pipeline.

Singapore Technology Kinectics had this LSV (light strike vehicle). I managed to stumble on the person manning the stall. There were supposedly two versions one with 6 seating capacity and one with 3 seating capacity the earlier having a 130hp engine with top speed of 130kmph. Well it seems indian SF has selected this vehicle(6 seater-2 MMG mount side with 360degree coverage universal mount in the center) for trials in india. Seems SKT developed this vehicle specially for india with more seating capacity and more powerful engine and is planning trials in june/July time frame. He was quite confident that it will pass all trials as they have tested the vechiles up to 54 degrees in dubai. About the orders he says indian govt is inking up to a deal of 1000 vehicles!!!!!!

Well there were regular stalls of MBDA, it was confirmed with the fellow manning the stall that india is looking at the MICA IR/RF missiles as well as they are trying to push the ASTER to indian navy but seems navy has yet to decide on the ASTER. ASRAAM was very impressive, i say the best Short range air to air missile in the market with no fins or drag surfaces!!. He had lots of praises for the MKI's india bought and he added tht the only sensible thing woudl be is to use European missiles with sukhoi to enhance is capabilties. Meteor was much more impressive than the R-77 on paper and as per sales talk it just sounded out of the world. They trying to market ASRAAM to india. Milan 2T production in Europe has stopped now they going for the new TRIGAT-LR/MR verisons seems that's why the Milan facility will be shited to india.

Static display:
Got a chance to check out the Rafale, its a unbeleivable aircraft just looks so good. It manouvers and cuts corner better than a mirage. Airframe is full of stuff that i coudln't actually make out but certainly it looked more formidable than the F-15E also displayed.

Wow, I have seen the navy guys do that with their chetak and even that is simply awesome. I wanted to record it this time during navy day, but got caught in bombay traffic even though I budgeted an extra 45 mins.

It came to Bangalore - and it took off 10 minutes ago. I was waiting with binoculars - but it went in the other direction. A little birdie told me.

anyone knows why LCA testpilots would fly in Gripens? to have a benchmark for comparison in ACM ?

are you guys sure that the LCA test pilots flew the Gripen ? any links to confirm that ?

The airshow was good, though I couldn't spend as much time at the stalls as I wanted...And with an expert like abhisham in company, it was excting ! Hey abhisham, did u manage to get back to the MBDA stall and nail down that Gora who was doing lots of blah blah ?
The ALH was quite impressive. To top it all, we met a couple of 'good guys' from the Sarang team ! I'm watching SuryaKiran for the first time, it was great ! The Singaporean public is not very generous in clapping and appreciation, but when Kiran team performed, there was appluase and admiration !

AEROPLANES and helicopters are not just toys for boys.

Just ask Indian Air Force flight lieutenants Namrita Chandri, 30, and Bhavana Mehra, 29, here at Asian Aerospace 2004. They are the only women in the flying display at the show this year. Ms Namrita is a helicopter pilot while Miss Bhavana runs aerobatics team Surya Kiran and has special permission to fly in the formation.

When she left school, Ms Namrita, who admits to watching Top Gun countless times in college, didn't want a desk-bound job............
