Can't find a relevant thread, so posting here:

Melting glacier reveals World War I ammunition

Image

Some of the more than 200 pieces of World War I ammunition which emerged from a melting glacier on a Trentino mountain peak are seen, Aug. 31. Each piece weighs between 7-10 kilos, and the 85-100 mm caliber explosive devices were found at an altitude of 3,200 meters, when a once-perennial glacier on the Ago de Nardis peak partially melted due to a recent heat wave that reached into Italy's highest peaks. The Finance Police Alpine rescue unit, operating in the area between Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio, saw brownish metal points emerging from the ice, got a fix on them via GPS, and then extricated the ordnance. The pieces were spread over a 100-square-meter area during series of battles fought between the armies of Austria-Hungary and Italy in northern Italy between 1915 and 1918. Disposal specialists returned to dispose of the munitions.

No worries guys
being an army kid I am very well aware of what may give the game away.

I took it when I was hunting partridges. It was an open non-restricted farming area next to a canal.

Disclaimer: I would like to put this out that I am a huge Gen. Brar fan, probably due to me being a 'Maratha LI' kid.
I hope they dont pull the video in the next 24 hrs!

anyways, I have a couple of beefs with the media and the MEA (ministry of ext affairs):

1) After the initial reports that came in, I watched a video snipppet of a phone interview between Nitin Gokhale and the NDTV anchor. Nothing against Nitin but he couldnt even remeber who the COAS was during Bluestar!!. He did get the facts about Gen Brar right though.

2) After watching the above report, shouldnt the producers at least project Gen Brar as a hero?
come on!

3) S.M. Krishna says "he should have informed us in advance..." come on dude!

he IS the epitomy of a true war hero and our media doesnt even have the gumption to say it1??

way to treat a hero! ...and yes keep whining about shortage of officers !

Quite dramatic footage indeed ......these Allah O Akbar chant though reminds me of Afghanistan Jihadi chanting similar calls .....not a good sign to look forward to in days ahead in Syria.

Seems the footage started after the helicopter was hit by missile and from the looks of it, the pilot was trying to under take auto rotation to bring down the chopper. What could have caused the explosion?
