When I read the story posted by Ambar above I immediately thought it interesting that while the TTP is speaking like a government.........ramana wrote:SS, When can we expect to see the TTP become the TSPA? What signs and markers?
..............
In the video, Hakimullah sitting besides Rehman, who commands the Mehsud Taliban, also rebuffed the notion that the two were at odds over talks with the Pakistani government, saying that “meaningful and serious dialogue” was always welcome and that the Pakistani Taliban were never opposed to it.
“We are and we have always been open to dialogue…but true talks...."
..........in a recent visit to a neighbouring South Asian state the honourable Interior Minister of South Asia, the Hon'ble Rehman Malik, was speaking like a terrorist."The top commanders of the TTP also said that their fight was not specifically against the ANP, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), or the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), but against the “system which has enslaved the Pakistani nation”, accusing the political parties of “supporting it on the behest of the US and foreign masters.”
"We do not want any 9/11. We do not want any Bombay blasts, we do not want any Samjhauta Express, we do not want any Babri mosque issue and we can work together not only for peace in Pakistan and India but also for the region," Malik said here.
Malik claimed Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Abu Jundal, who was allegedly present in the control room during the Mumbai attacks, is an Indian agent.
"Abu Jundal's statement was taken in Saudi Arabia. In his own statement, Jundal says he is a criminal having been charged in many cases. He also worked as one of the sources of a very elite agency of India. I will put it in another way, you become a source and you become a double agent," Malik said.

I agree with Ramana. Already, pakjabi terrorists are part of a TTP led by a Pashtun emir (have been so for a decade now under successive Pashtun emirs, Nek Mohammed, Abdullah Mehsud, Baitullah Mehsud and now Hakilullah Mehsud). Ultimately, thay have all taken a bayat in the name of another Pashtun, the one-eyed Mullah Omar. Mullah Omar has replaced Ayman Zawahiri. Pakjabis have not been given any posts in the hierarchy, not Deputy emirship, not spokesmanship nothing and they haven't demurred. OTOH, most suicide bombers have come from South Punjab. The attackers on the Indian embassy in Kabul (twice) and various other attacks organized by Haaqani, or even the TTP for that matter, were Punjabi foot soldiers.ramana wrote:Pakjabis are hijadas. Because of demographis, Punjabis will be in sizeable numbers even in TTP but there is no doubt about who dominates this setup and it is not the Punjabis. It is so different from the hierarchy in TSPA.

"The deaths from the cough syrup occurred in Gujranwala and villages surrounding the city", said Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, the top administrative official in Gujranwala. Another 54 people are being treated at hospitals in the city who are also believed to have consumed the syrup. Those involved are thought to be laborers or drug addicts who drank the syrup to get high, said Shaheen.
"Chemical samples collected from the victims' stomachs contained dextromethorphan, a synthetic morphine derivative used in cough syrup that can have mind-altering effects if consumed in large quantities", said Shaheen. "It is being investigated whether the people affected by the syrup in Gujranwala drank too much of it, or whether there was a problem with the medicine itself", he said.

The riddle of Tahirul Qadri ---- Khalid Ahmed
President Asif Ali Zardari, ever nimble-footed when it comes to survival, has countered the ISI move by moving closer to Nawaz Sharif through the appointment of Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood as governor of Punjab. No ‘pipliya’ will enter the Governor’s House now. The Makhdoom is out to take down the Tehreek-e-Insaf, the tormentor of both the PPP and the PML-N. He has been and continues to be a friend of the Sharifs; he is additionally a sworn ally of President Zardari.
The Makhdoom says he belongs to no party and probably will not live in the Governor’s House, and if he does, he will spend his own money there. This will facilitate better mixing with the PML-N leadership who would not like to be seen visiting the big place in public view.
It is interesting how the bipartisan system in Pakistan defends itself despite irrepressible hatred between the leaders of the two big parties. They must feel that their vote banks are being raided by the likes of Imran Khan and TQ.

Defence secretary retracts statement about nuke threats
ISLAMABAD - The ‘disclosures’ from Defence Secretary LT-Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik on the ‘grey areas’ concerning the strategic relationship between Pakistan and the United States apparently put him into trouble with the retraction issued about his related statements a day after his assertion.
In an informal interaction with selective journalists from electronic media on Friday, the defence secretary was said to have spoken his mind on the presumed threats to Pakistan’s nuclear programme, contending that the US and United Kingdom were against it.
He was also quoted to have said that the spies from the foreign intelligence agencies were not allowed to operate undercover in Pakistan and the military authorities had complete information about the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) secret agents operating in Pakistan. Moreover, Malik also purportedly stated that Washington’s (toughened) tone and tenor towards Pakistan was ‘changing’ and there were no Black Water marines here anymore.

PESHAWAR - Taliban militants have shot dead 21 Pakistani soldiers who were kidnapped two days ago near Peshawar, officials said late Saturday night.“We found 21 bullet-riddled bodies of security personnel a short while ago in an uninhabited area,” local government official Naveed Akbar told AFP.The soldiers were abducted from two government paramilitary camps outside Peshawar on Thursday and the bodies were discovered about four kilometres away.Monitoring Desk adds: Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for massacring the 21 soldiers, reported private TV channels late on Saturday night.Officials of political administration and members of local jirga were sent to the area to retrieve the bodies. All the bodies have been identified and families of the victims have been informed about the killings. One injured soldier was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar while the other was still reported missing.Twenty-one of the 23 abducted soldiers were shot dead in execution style and their bodies were thrown away in Hassankhel area in FR Peshawar. It is to be mentioned here that the slaughter came one day after TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud, in a video message, expressed his willingness to hold negotiation with the government for a ceasefire but refused to surrender arms and sever links with Al-Qaeda.

Pakistan Lifts Ban on YouTube only to Impose it Again - Anita Joshua, The Hindu
In a curious turn of events, Pakistan lifted the 103-day ban on YouTube on Saturday only to impose it again within a couple of hours as some television channels began reporting that the blasphemous content — which had invited the proscription in the first place — was still available on the video-sharing website.
The day began with hopes of the ban being lifted as Interior Minister Rehman Malik tweeted in the wee hours of Saturday that the notification ending the ban could be “expected today.”
And, sure enough, the ban was lifted early in the day with all Internet Service Providers being asked to “immediately block/restore complete YouTube website provisionally till further orders” and submit compliance through email by 3 p.m.
As word got around and television channels broke the story, some reported that the blasphemous film Innocence of Muslims was still available on YouTube. This saw the government swing into action and order a fresh ban on the website. How long YouTube remained accessible is unclear but from the various versions available, the duration was anywhere between 33 minutes to two hours.

If Islam does not bring peace to the masses, it is just not Islam, it is something else - a watered down version of Islam, a mis-interpretation, a case of not following the religion in its "true" spirit - anything but the fault of Islam itself. Similarly, a Muslim accused of rape, loot and murder is just not a good Muslim anymore - he is misguided, or if the crime is serious enough, a complete unbeliever. The idea of standing up as a truly Islamic state is not as fearsome as some of us have been made to believe. The immediate image that comes to mind is of frenzied gun toting jihadists forcing the population to their version of Islam; of lashes and stoning; of a society living in fright and anguish: a Talibanised Pakistan. The reality could be far from it. This religion came to end tyranny and oppression; there is no coercion in it. Islam is a message of social justice, benevolence and peace, not only for the Muslims but for the entire community. If it does not bring tranquillity and serenity in the lives of the people, then it is not the true message of Islam but some distorted version of it.
In any case, those who commit crimes are not part of the Islamic fold. No introspection is needed. Soul-searching is uncalled for because the perpetrators do not represent Islam at all. Problem solved. All is well onlee.
If you do not buy this argument, you do not understand the spirit of Islam, or at worst, you are Islamophobic. What can Muslims and Islam do about that?
