No, thats nandand who is Nandan Dharwadker. I am still cut up at the guy. In school, instead of working on our project, he spent time working on the BR page.
Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
Years do go fast...I remember visiting the individual sites before BR was formed...
miss the old BR forum & "chetan" posts

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
I visited BR for the missile news mainly and then discovered the forum.
Does anyone remember appan who derided DOO (Desi Oracle Operators)
Narayan and appan had a very interesting exchange of views.

You bet! How can any of us forget the infamous Appam (and his miserable soul-brother Kamban)?Does anyone remember appan who derided DOO (Desi Oracle Operators)

While we're on this nostalgia trip, it's a pity Fahim and Salman no longer hang around here.

gayatri srinivasan - probably BRs first full-time
lady member. Mudy is still around I think. cant
think of any other ladies who managed to stick
around.
then there was Jaime who Calvin ragged and chased
out ...N^3 pleaded for clemency which was denied.

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
I think Mudy still participates here, but Gayatri hasn't been here since the the end of the Kargil War, as far as I can tell. Badar too has been MIA for a while. I notice Imtiaz has popped up again in HICAF.
BTW, what do you guys think was the most fiery, disruptive discussion on BR (i.e. which generated the most bad blood among members)? IMO it was either the whole Sri Lanka series of threads, or the various religous arguments.

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
who can forget that master orator S.Coltsfoot ?
imo the most fractious discussions were on religious lines. Dsingh with his speeches on "fetish secularists" and Narayanan laying into him.

When I first visited Bharat Rakshak in 1998, I remember seeing a Nuclear Section. But I cant see them in the web archive. Am I imagining it?
Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
gayatri came back on the forum very briefly after Kargil, atleast to narrate he great experince of flying Maharaja style (Air India)!!
Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
There used to be a guy called Shiv Mahalingam who used to post in the old BR forum. Some really neat posts on the LCA. And another guy called Rajiv something (I forgot his last name). Good info on Radars.
Wonder where Chetan has gone.

Merlin,
I think you may be confusing with another poster with the rather uncommon name of **** Mahalingam, who used to make some very sane and unknowledgeable posts on various issues. He is still registered but does not participate.
Plus, N is not Chetan. That's certain. Chetan has disappeared as far as recognisable posting is concerned, I think.
BTW, Merlin long time no see on the forum.

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
Plus I miss Faheem, whose insights into Pak society were something else but as I recall he used to travel a lot and maybe he does not have the time. What happened to Riza? Dude is busy with his education I guess.

No No No,
Narayanan is definitely Chetan.

Coltsfoot has been recalled to the Vavuniya jungles to rescript Prabhakaran's foray into politics.

What did this "Chetan" do to deserve such horror?

Just a deep inside knowledge of various things.
Of course, Johann could be Chetan too. Or ramana or Arun S

Actually I still have a printout of the LCA issue from the old forum (way back in 1997 I think) where the good posts are by this chap. There were a few gems in that old forum, sadly now missing.

Yeah, more's the pity. Chetan, I remember, had mentioned that we had thermonuclear capability and Tim had laughed at that. Politely, of course. And this was before the May 1998 tests. Time proved who was right

You noticed! Kidding. Just been a bit busy these days. How are things with you?

Shiv,
Come to think of it, hoo nose, N could be Chetan. Or, of course, I could be Chetan.
Merlin,
Am surviving. Will TRY to make it to Bangi this year as well. Maybe we could get together for another lunch, this time on me! What say Doc?

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
Hey, if people are giving out free lunches .. might this be some time in August, by any chance?
Also, Admins! (That means ALL you Admins!!) Please read your e-mail, get your fine brains together, and send me some thoughtful answers to the question/ request I sent you yesterday. Preferably through e-mail.
Sorry to disappoint people here. I have no idea who Chetan is, and considering that he appears to be knowledgeable about thermonukes etc., it does not appear to be a smart idea to claim that I am Chetan

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
N, I haven't received any mail from you - either via the admins address, the yahoo address or via my personal address which you know. Just doublechecked now.
As for the free lunch... trying to be there in Aug.-Sep. if I can get the bloody scheduling right.

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
Wonder where it went, because it sure has not bounced yethaven't received any mail from you
That IS serious.. please check e-mail now and let me know if it came through this time.
Then again, maybe my boss's server is being used again by Paki toddlers in Poland or Lithuania to host streaming XXX movies, because e-mail has been nearly absent this weekend.
Further discussions re: free lunches through e-mail.
Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
Got it. So it definitely went elsewhere 1st time.

In addition I think Brig. Niranjan singh also said that India's devices were superior to china's
he went on to say that US was helping China thru various dual technologies to build Nuke Subs and better ICBMs. IIRC

Re: A trip down Bharat-Rakshak memory lane.....
GD - 'aahluwalia' or Ankur Ahluwalia is very much a lurker on BR but hardly posts anymore. I was in email touch with him re a BR meet in the NE. Gayatri has posted 2-3 times on BR HICAF in response to some threads so she probably checks BR frequently.

Nostalgia is right. I first got acquainted with BR in Jul 99, and made the odd contribution (Understanding Air Ops In Kargil", an archived article). Its great to look in after so long, and great to see familiar names. Good going, folks!!
