Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!

Post by Rakesh »

On 01 July 2004, Bharat Rakshak celebrates its 7th Birthday. These past seven years have seen a lot of ups and downs. More of the former, than the latter...thank goodness! We have been hacked only once, the second one does not count. I hit the delete button by mistake! :)

I remember Rupak had painstakingly scanned a lot of images from Frontline (early/mid '90s editions) which Harsh subsequently misplaced and was never found. Harsh was then the webmaster of the Army website now part of the Land Forces group. Bad, Bad Harsh :D

It has certainly been a long journey since then. We have made a lot of friends and a few enemies as well. But overall, Bharat Rakshak has made a lasting impression on those who created it and those who visit it daily, or in my case...in real time ;)

Please take this moment to remember our humble & hardy Indian jawan, for without whom BR admins would have no inspiration to continue doing the work we do. Thank you all for making BR such a wonderful place and once again, Happy B'Day BHARAT RAKSHAK :wah: <img src="http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif" alt="" />

To echo George J's words, "BR is the BORG. You will be assimilated. Resistance is Paki."

P.S. And Seetal Bhai (or one of my other fellow admins), can you please post the stats indicating the number of visitors we got in June 2004? BR averaged 18,000+ unique visitors/month in June 2002. BR averaged 90,000 unique visitors/month in June 2003. I would like to know what the numbers look like for June 2004. Thanks.

BR Survey

1) Where do you see BR heading in the future? Or rather where do you think BR should lead in the future?

2) In what areas (Army, Monitor, Bookstore, etc) and in what kinds of service (website updates, forum administration, etc) do we need to improve upon?

3) Do you believe that George J eats crow soup on a regular basis and why? Please give examples or illustrations to support your answers.

4) Do you believe that Kapil Chandni spends more time with the ladies of Mumbai, than he does on BR? Once again, please give examples or illustrations to support your answers.

5) Why is it that Rudraji has a solution to every question posed on BRF?

Congrats BR!

I can only answer Q1
...BR is heading towards being the think tank on India (which, of course:
a. will never be openly accepted by non-BRites, though they will
b. always plagiarize from BR).

PS..I have been cursed with long term thinking..so wait for 3-4 years.. :) Hint hint TSP

Long live BR!! And congratulations to all admins and dedicated posters who have contributed to our happy Borgassimilation.

1)Would certainly like to see BR grow a print version. It will be an easier platform from which to skewer DDM, WKK and other looney left morons.
2)Definitely would like to see a video archives and eventually a libriary of Indian war and other related DVDs/Tapes.
3)Dunno.
4)Dunno.
5)Because he is from Assam? (on second thoughts, so am I. Hmmm...)

Some random thoughts....all my own work:

>BR is fine the way it is. On second thoughts...BRING BACK HICAF, get rid of the damp squib forum.

>That cake reminds me of the time that I bought a cake for BR Chicago second anniversary. Got 'Happy BR 2nd Anniv' iced on it, carried in gingerly on the Chicago El train...only to have to topple right outside the BR meet venue.*sigh* :(

>For the greater good of BR I am willing to admit I had crow. But technically I am still right. You jingos are too pigheaded to admit it.*double sigh*

>This whole unique visitor thing is humbug. I log onto BR from three computers in any given day and thats just my home. Then there is work and anytime that I get on a computure to check mail when i travel. That would make me like 4-5 unique visitor in a month no? Now imagine other jingos doing the same. Thats what happens with being in a BORG. Most of the jingos would use at least 2 computers in a month to access BR. So i guess you should reduce by a factor of 2-3 to get a better estimate.

> Like who cares...happy budday BR.

get rid of the damp squib forum.

Why are you prejudiced against damp squids?

Try them pan fried with masala and a nice beer. You'll soon change your mind.

Congratulations, BR!! I learn something new everyday out here on BRF, thanks to all the gurus.

Three cheers to the Jawans and all the Indians who do a damn tough job with little appreciation from those they do it for.

Added later: Forgot to congratulate the admins and the founders for their tireless efforts in keep the whole BRF ship on the rails and not tolerating any nonsense.

Happy birthday BR and thanks for being out there for us all!

In Last 5 years of my association with BR/BRF as accidental visitor to lurker to occasional poster to full time resident reader/poster, so many things have changed in life but charm of BRF is still as fresh and intoxicating as it was when I first visited it......it's addictive!

God bless you all!

Next logical step for BR should obviously be a print edition of “Monitor” in India. This would have more impact with old fa^ts who (are still in majority) are still allergic to PC/WWW but command high position in the GoI. BR should start a fund raising to raise enough money to capture print media to propagate BR philosophy.

After having read BR, if I were of the right age, I would have enlisted. There is such a dearth of balanced perspective on security, strategic, and defense technology for India, that BR is a Godsend!

I will be hitting BR every 1 hour for the next seven years!

You were there yourself werent you?

When I first got on - I had a text based internet connection - with VSNL charging an impossible 15000 rupees a year for an internet acccount and my 7200 baud modem had set me back by more than 7200 Rupees.

Rupak, Rakesh, Harshavardhan, Ramana, Spinster, Philip, "Prof" and many others were there. Will others please own up? GD was an early entrant and let me now ask Rudra a question that I have been meaning to ask for many years.

When anyone else makes a post - the typed text fills the entire text box from left to right. But for years and years (but not now) - GD/RS has been making posts that look "narrow" like columns in a newspaper. How? Why?

Happy bday

I hope BR will bring out BRMonitor/magazine in print edition pretty soon

would like to see

1. Surya ( peacekeeper / widow maker)

2. ATV (hopefully bunch of them)

3. Indian's east, west and southern Fleet (full fledged)

4 last but no the least shakti-2 (including minitaure stuff ,little laddu's)

suggestion--> is it possible to allow luckers to go to the last post directly on a particular thread..

Ha - because GD *looks* when he types, whereas we others don't! :p

Shiv, are you sure there isn't an extra zero in that figure? I got my VSNL shell internet connection in early 1999 - and I was paying Rs. 1500 a year.

Shiv, since you use Linux, you can still get a blast from the past and bring back all those halcyon memories of yesteryear.

Simply open up a terminal window and type "lynx" (without the quotation marks) in it.

Rudraji's post will not have any punctuation.

could not afford BR, when i was in
desh last year. rs 1500 on the VSNL
net connection which comes around rs10/hr
but the major cost is on the telephone,
which is around Rs25/hr. so, its nearly
rs40/hr.

I guess it was approx 4 yrs back that i first came across BRF. And I can honestly say I have loaded the BRF URL more times than my yahoo internet account. I stopped looking up info on Indian defence in other sites after they kept referring to material posted in BRF. Keep it up BRF.

More importantly, This 20000 investment was at a time when a Rs 60,000 Per Annum salary was considered 'very Good'

happy birthday all!! my humble opinions...

1/ World domination, led by the BR collective
2/I know it sounds a little silly...but more pics in the army site! Tanks and jawans to be specific :)
3/ lol...a little self-criticism (self being on a nation level) is better than putting your head in the sand
4/ Hat's off if he does ;)
5/ He doesn't have to pay for the cumulative sum of 1000's of Arjuns, Namicas, Asters, 12000T AAW P15B's, Tejas swarms, LCH's... which make up his solutions :p
