Just imagine...Originally posted by Raj Katare:
Next logical step for BR should obviously be a print edition of “Monitor” in India. This would have more impact with old fa^ts who (are still in majority) are still allergic to PC/WWW but command high position in the GoI.
in 10-15 years when India's internet generation comes of age, every one of these future leaders with a passing interest in Indian defense or policy and a modem would have come across BR at least once.
BR is one of the few true grassroots information phenomena that has literally empowered thousands of people and influenced thousands more.
The BR Effect can only grow.
All you middle school lurker jingoes (like me when br was formed) promise me this:
When you get elected PM. Big up the BRF crew

Happy B'day to B-R!
On a sidenote....since Jagan mentioned brute gorilla's forum....I once went there and I think some poster made a hilarious comparison b/w NSG and NYPD SWAT and concluded that NYPD SWAT is obviously superior (must have been some TSP
poster)
Such kind of forums underline the need for a forum and site like B-R,,,,where you get facts (and nice photos of rambhas too boot) and no BS (unless it's
in form of dead TSP terrorists).

TSP Poster? sounds more like Polecat.
Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
I spent almost 2 years on BR before discovering the Forum and once I saw it I couldn't stop coming back. Still remember my first post.... It was a link to a sher-o-shayari section of an unmentionable forum and the good doc burst a blood vessel when he saw that . Damn.... gotta stop getting misty eyed now.
But I am still here and like many people on the Forum, BR is permanently open in my browser for as long as I am connected to the web.

Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Congrats to BR on this achievement.
I discovered BR when searching for Indo-Pak standoffs but the forum dawned onto me after quite sometime. Have been more of a lurker since then.
Nevertheless, I go through the forum almost daily and I must say it is quite an education. The most important thing I have learnt here is to read between the lines of what the media says/writes.
I find it intriguing to see people going ga-ga about the BR meets. Guess I need to attend one to get the feel.
Congrats to everyone who has made BR a success, including the posters who make the forum so alive an kicking. :wah:

From the day BR went alive I spent hours watching website grow and yet for some strange silly reason never thought on clicking on forum because I always jumped into news section to check news updates
and since I have joined forums I have never checked news updates in the forces section.

Go! Go! Go!
The BR phenomenon can only grow and I hope the younger generations read more about and on BR. We could use a little self-critique though.
BRM in print would be a great idea even if we don't start with a glossy print edition.

Good work, boys!
Great!.
We want to know the first 100 members of BRF who are still participating.
I could be one of them. Not sure. But still visiting BR everyday. Seldom posting. It rankles some admins.

Congratulations and good work!
I do think the forum portion of BR should go back to strictly military issues and military science/technology. The strategic affairs forum is too wide and perhaps could be more limited to keep out political policy differences. The technology & economic forum, although its nice, doesn't really belong on BR.

My heartiest congratulations to my favoutite website on completing 7 marvellous years !
Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Congradulations to BR and the admins. I am still amazed and impressed by the constant stream of contributions in time and energy that the admins seem to pour out over this site. This apart from work, family, etc commitments.
Oh btw, it is July 1st any updates?

Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Vick, I plan to do some updates in August. But I am sure Jagan has updated the IAF website for July 01st.
Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Indeed, Jagan has.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Hehe,
BR has been my homepage for the past few years, and I have got into plenty of trouble from friends and colleagues who think I have war on the brain. Thing is: they are somewhat correct.
The greatest thing about BR for me has been the clarity it has provided on whats going on in the world.
Cheers.
Atish.

Re Plagiarizing:
Rakesh,
I am talking about the little pieces of info and acronyms that are seen on various newspapers which seem to be picked right out of BR....I am sure a lot of people visit BR apart from registered members (nothing wrong with that as such) and certain things stick in their heads and they reproduce them elsewhere.....These things are too small point out to definitely say "Aha! You stole it from BR" but at the same time you canot but go away with the feeling (once you read these newspaper etc) that they have been quite literally been influenced by BR....
We have come across various such snippets in TSP papers for example and BRites pick them out and list them on the PN&Disc thread from time to time...JMT, but I feel this quasi-semi-plagiarizing trend will increase as time goes on in a big way..(nothing wrong with that either, as I think it will make more people closet BRites!)

Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Remarkable how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that I came across BR, although that was six years ago.
The maturity and seriousness with which such a broad project (from the Monitor to the virtual memorial to the fallen, and the veteran's history project) has been pursued is one of a kind among part-time non-specialists.
In particular I thank Jagan, Rupak, LNS, Shiv Ramana, Calvin, Samir, Nitin and Narayanan (on and off :p )for raising the bar repeatedly.
BR will continue to grow in range and quality so long as people associated with it never grow satisfied.

Congratulations BR !! Have discovered the forum fairly recently, but have visited the website since 1998.
Thoroughly enjoy reading the monitor and would like to echo a fellow BRite's earlier comment on seeing the monitor in print.
Good going everyone.

Congratulations to all the BR admins and members. Its been fun lurking and posting for the last 5+ years!
Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Congrats to everybody.
I believe it was the year 1997 AD, when I first stumbled upon Rupaks Indian airforce page. There wasn't a great deal of information known in the west, so I was quite happy when I saw that fine looking website.
I joined BR in 1998.

Gentlemen one should point out that BR first came together in November 1996 and moved to a dedicated server in July 1997.
It's been a fun learning experience over the years!
Thanks to all.

Congrats!! And Many More!!
I came to BRF thru CNN Indo-Pak forum (never posted there) since July 2001. It has been an education for me.
Re plagiarizing:
In addition to Ashish's response, we have the most blatant one. Sunil's BRM article making it to Pakistan Defense Journal.

I don't think that we can ever get a true account of the first 100 users since the s/w and server(s) for the forum changed a number of times.
We can however take a look back to the past.

Congratulations BRights
I was hooked on BR in Summer 1997, found it by searching for IAF and *** stuff. Visited BR almost everyday, but did not discover BRF until 2000 when one of the guys whom i had referred the BR site told me about the forum!
1. Great future for BR: Stay Jingo as ever.
2. More Contests like the Space Contest we had some time ago which produced some jems.

Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
Time flies!!!
Bharat-Rakshak is 7 years old. This made me think about the days gone by. It was 6 years since I set foot in Bangalore. With a typical crew cut and a VIP Suitcase gifted by the JCOs of my NCC Battalion, I landed at Bangalore City Jn. (SBC) on October 13th, 1997.
It was here I created my first free e-mail account (courtesy Hotmail), and the browsed the net with great enthusiasm. Was quite surprized to find a site for the Indian Defence Forces. It was even a bigger surprize to find one of my fellow Mallus (Malayalis) Rakesh's Koshy's name appear in the web master's list. Soon I had to share some information with him. It was the rank structure of JCOs and NCOs in the Indian Armed Forces.
Soon I began to visit the site regularly. I still remember the forum in its old format, with the tiranga in the background. By 1999 I was commissioned into Bharat-Rakshak as the web master.
Bharat-Rakshak still helps me in maintaining my interest in the defence forces, which other wise would have got cut after my NCC days. And it indeed helped me in knowing more on the army, and its life style. It also gave me a chance to work in a semi-official role when I developed the sites http://www.roa-mlirc.com <Tsk Tsk Sachin, never forget the MLIRC URL - Jagan> and http://www.pararegt.org .
And last but not the least, it also helped me a lot continue another peculiar interest of mine - military music. The fruits of that interest is available at http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/BANDSTAND.
Three cheers to Bharat-Rakshak, and three cheers to our honoured members who have made us what we are.

Re: Bharat Rakshak Celebrates Seven Years!
I was introduced to BR by a friend in 2001 and sinc ethen it has been an addiction bigger than smoking (I smoke 5-6 sticks a day but BR is on at work and at home 24 hours).
The most important thing that I rediscovered in BR was my on patriotism (may be that is too big a word and I would be presumptuous to use it - just call it a love of my country). This love was first ignited by my 3rd standard history book (which introduced us to the greats of the Indian independence struggle) and then kept alive by some outstanding history teachers who taught with a passion for history and truly believed in the greatness of Indian civilization. I am grateful to them and I am grateful to BR, which has re-ignited the same love and passion. I can't live without BR - so BR folks you better keep going for the next 50 yrs at least.
