This is old news but just to give info that Russia is very much in the game in Yemen:
Russia sends plane carrying 'humanitarian aid' to Yemen - Nov 05, 2015 (over one month into Russian operation in Syria)
http://news.yahoo.com/russia-sends-plan ... 49303.html
Moscow (AFP) - Russia on Thursday sent a plane to rebel-controlled Yemen carrying what Moscow said was more than 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid for the conflict-torn country.

Russia's emergencies ministry said the Il-76 transported "23 tonnes of humanitarian aid" including ( ) food and tents to Yemen's capital Sanaa.

AFP journalists saw the plane at Sanaa airport -- which is controlled by Shiite Huthi rebels -- and were told it contained aid.

The plane was then set to fly back to the Russian capital Friday with some 75 people on board who wanted to quit the strife-torn city, the ministry said.

Russia last sent planes to Yemen's capital in July, with Moscow saying they had some 46 tonnes of aid.

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition is bombing the Iran-backed Huthis, has been identified by the United Nations as one of the world's worst, with 80 percent of the country's population on the brink of famine.

Around 5,000 people have been killed in the conflict since March, more than half of them civilians, according to UN estimates.

The conflict in Yemen has pitched regional rivals Saudi Arabia against Iran. Russia is allied to Iran as the main backers of President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict in Syria.

Pakistan lost 93000 POWs in 1971 but no such blowback.
In 1999 one whole regiment wiped out. No such blowback.

Islamists are meek camel fodder.

USA is encouraging forces like Taliban, AL Keeda, ISIS, dictators in CIS, rather than fostering true secular democratic institutions which clearly shows private agendas (call it deep state) are being pursued and US foreign & military policy is on pay roll of Saudis.

UlanBatori wrote:In WW1, Germany did not really invade Russia deep - they just trashed the Russian army on the borders in an exchange of debacles. Numbers like 92000 captured, 130,000 dead, in each battle, well over 2 million lost on both sides. The returning Russian army did the rest (revolution). Wonder how much in losses the KSA army will take b4 they decide that is much nicer in Riyadh and Jeddah.
By 1917, the Russian Army's officer corps was increasingly demoralized by the poor progress of the fighting. Though grossly outnumbered, the Houthis Germans had proven to be dangerous and cunning opponents, and the Saudi Russian royal family's unfortunate intervention in affairs did not improve anything. The repeated catastrophes suffered by Russian field armies squelched what patriotism had existed three years earlier, slowly allowing the entire governing system to fall apart. By March of that year, some Army units began ignoring their orders, a situation made worse as growing Communist rebel groups exaggerated reports of minor events such as the revolt of a Russian Guard depot formation at Petrograd (this famous mutiny was carried out by trainees and depot troops, not by fully trained Imperial Guardsmen). After the Tsar abdicated his throne ... Kerensky's General Brusilov - another offensive against the German Southern Army in Galicia.. German generals Hoffman and Hutier held off, then counter-attacked the hesitant Russian troops. This was the last straw for the Imperial Russian Army, which virtually disintegrated as open civil war swept like a wave across Russia.
Need a parallel for Hoffman and Hutier to deliver the shattering blow and start mass panic. Hope Comrade Vlad has learned his history well.

I feel that KSA is more unstable than Turkey. If a riot starts in Riyadh after a smashing military debacle, Erdogan's support base may evaporate very fast, and the opposition parties in Turkey may re-assert their power. Turkish military is probably more professionally led and tougher-trained.
I think you can not compare Europeans with Greens. greens are ready to live like slave to any dictator (it is in blood). Salam

It seems oil money riches and vices have corrupted gelf sheikhs. They have no fighting desire nor a physic. At the same racist Saudis are too paranoid to import Somalis/Sudanese in wholesale. If Jizan Shias takes arms to fight off oppressive Sunnis, then Saudi Arabia days as a nation are numbered. Once KAS goes, Sunni Qatar too become history.

The Iranians have proved to be very innovative after decades of sanctions.US Tomcats, etc. have been kept flying.Missiles galore developed, copied from China, etc. Small mini subs being built in series as well as surface vessels.Sxcore of Rev Gd fast craft threaten to swarm Gulf waters if Iran is attacked. They've adapted to circumstances very well and have taken asymmetric warfare to heart. They would naturally pass on their experience to their pals like the Hiz,Houthis, etc. AS very rightly pointed out by posters, the Saudis and Gulfies have become venal, soft, corrupt and debauched, unable to stomach a hard fight. All these years they've paid others to fight their battles, mostly the West. Falconry, camel racing and "marital arts" are their forte. Enduring the hot desert sun under fire isn't their cuppa!
Therefore, states and entities like the Pakis,Egyptians,Western mercenary outfits,ISIS,etc. are roped in to fight their battles. But the hard cash is drying up and there's scant success on the battlefields, both in the Yemen and Syria. The palace infighting isn't helping either. The Soothis are dangerously close to imploding as oil prices plummet and the spare cash meant for the indulgences of the huge royal family gets smaller.

blackwater under its new name is the contractor handling all the elite foreign mercs there - colombian, uk, france, aus. the somali/sudanese low level mercs are under some separate kabila contractor I suppose.
colombians have been offered good pay and a instant uae passport if they survive their tour of duty.

Forces loyal to former President Saleh are with Houthi's. This includes the Republican Guards who used to control the missile assets of Yemen.

this was the main civil war that led to the north yemen , south yemen thing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Yemen_Civil_War

from what I understand, the north yemen was saudi/british sponsored royalists and featured the houthis while south was russia/egypt sponsored republican. makes sense as saudi border is close.

so how south yemen became saudi side and houthis+north yemen turned on the saudis is a mystery.

seems like contiguous shia tribes in north yemen and south KSA that might have contributed.

There seems to be a new Islamic military alliance announced without any fanfare.

DAWN reports Pakistan is part of this alliance.
DUBAI: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday announced the formation of a 34-state Islamic military coalition to combat terrorism, according to a joint statement published on state news agency SPA.

“The countries here mentioned have decided on the formation of a military alliance led by Saudi Arabia to fight terrorism, with a joint operations center based in Riyadh to coordinate and support military operations,” the statement said.

A long list of Arab countries such as Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, together with Islamic countries Turkey, Malaysia, Pakistan and Gulf Arab and African states were mentioned.

The announcement cited “a duty to protect the Islamic nation from the evils of all terrorist groups and organisations whatever their sect and name which wreak death and corruption on earth and aim to terrorise the innocent.”

Iran, Saudi Arabia's archrival for influence in the Arab world, was absent from the states named as participants, as proxy conflicts between the two regional powers rage from Syria to Yemen.

The United States has been increasingly outspoken about its view that Gulf Arab states should do more to aid the military campaign against the militant Islamic State (IS) militant group based in Iraq and Syria.

Confronting 'any terrorist organisation'

In a rare press conference, 30-year-old deputy crown prince and Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman told reporters on Tuesday that the campaign would “coordinate” efforts to fight terrorism in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Afghanistan, but offered few concrete indications of how military efforts might proceed.

“There will be international coordination with major powers and international organisations ... in terms of operations in Syria and Iraq. We can't undertake these operations without coordinating with legitimacy in this place and the international community,” bin Salman said without elaborating.

Asked if the new alliance would focus just on IS, bin Salman said it would confront not only that group but “any terrorist organisation that appears in front of us.”

Saudi Arabia and its Gulf Arab neighbours have been locked in nine months of warfare with Iran-allied rebels in neighbouring Yemen, launching hundreds of air strikes there.

Especially after a rash of attacks on Western targets claimed by IS in recent months, the US has increasingly said it thinks that firepower would better be used against IS.

As a ceasefire is set to take hold in Yemen on Tuesday alongside United Nations-backed peace talks, Riyadh's announcement may signal a desire to shift its attention back toward the conflicts north of its borders.

IS has pledged to overthrow the monarchies of the Gulf and have mounted a series of attacks on Shia Muslim mosques and security forces in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houthis - they rebelled against Saleh and then protecting his regime now!

Ansar Allah (anṣār allāh أنصار الله "Supporters of God"), known more popularly as the Houthis (Arabic: الحوثيون‎ al-Ḥūthiyyūn), are a Zaidi Shia group from Sa'dah, northern Yemen, which was founded by Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi.[16] They started a rebellion in 2004 which led to a Houthi insurgency in Yemen against Yemen's former President, Ali Abdullah Saleh

...
he Houthis belong to the Shia tribesmen in the North of Yemen who are renowned among Yemeni tribes for their ruggedness, sharpshooting abilities, honor, and bravery in combat. This is while they are also disregarded as being ignorant or backward, by more metropolitan Yemenis, such as Sana'anis or Adenites. They have been known for being very moderate and are the closest to Sunni Islam of all the Shi'a sects.[22]
...
Zaydis make up about 45 percent of the population, Sunnis 53 percent and there are also tiny minorities of other Shia groups - the Ismaili and Twelver communities. Al-Houthi Zaydis are estimated to be about 30 percent of the population, according to Hassan Zaid, secretary-general of the al-Haq opposition party. The Zaydis ruled Yemen for 1,000 years up until 1962. During this time they ferociously defended their independence and fought off foreign powers (Egypt, the Ottomans) who controlled lower Yemen and tried to extend their rule to the north.[28]

Similar to Sunni Muslims in matters of religious law and rulings, the Houthi belief in the concept of an Imamate as being essential to their religion makes them distinct from Sunnis.[48] As of 2014 it has been observed that "The Houthi group's approach is in many ways similar to that of Hizbollah in Lebanon. Similarly religiously based and Iran-backed, both groups follow the same military doctrine and glorify the Khomeini revolution in Iran".[

BREAKING NEWS: Terrorism sponsors form a anti-terror coalition :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Muslim Nations Form First Islamic Coalition Against Terrorism
A coalition of Muslim nations will form a joint operations room in Riyadh to combat terrorism in Islamic countries, in the first coordinated Muslim military effort to combat extremism.
The military coalition includes 34 nations and is backed by 10 others, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the kingdom’s defense minister, said in a televised press conference Tuesday. The coalition includes Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Morocco, Bangladesh and Turkey, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.
The grouping of Muslim nations will confront any terrorist threat, including Islamic State, and coordinate with “globally important countries and international organizations,” he said.
The decision to form the coalition is part of a broader effort by Saudi Arabia to establish itself as the leader of the Sunni Muslim world’s battle against terrorism. It’s unclear how such a coalition would function across the Islamic world and if countries would allow it to conduct military operations within their own borders.

Scores of Saudi-led coalition’s troops killed in attack day before government and Houthi representatives due to meet in Switzerland.
Houthi rebels' attack rocks prospects for Yemen peace talks
Ian Black Middle East editor

Monday 14 December 2015
Hopes for progress at UN talks on ending the war in Yemen have been overshadowed by an attack by Houthi rebels that killed scores of troops of the Saudi-led coalition, including two senior commanders, just hours before a planned ceasefire.

Representatives of the Yemeni government and the Houthis are scheduled to meet in Switzerland on Tuesday in what has been billed as a serious and perhaps a last-ditch effort to end a conflict that has claimed nearly 6,000 lives and represents a massive humanitarian disaster in the Arab world’s poorest country.

But confidence about a truce to mark the negotiations was dented on Monday by an attack on the headquarters of the Arab forces backing the Yemeni president, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, whose Houthi enemies are fighting alongside forces loyal to the former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The Houthis released video footage of a missile strike they claimed had killed 152 enemy troops in the Bāb al-Mandab area of south-west Yemen. Confirmed fatalities included the Saudi Col Abdullah al-Sahyan, and Sultan al-Kitbi, a senior Emirati officer. Sahyan was hailed on Saudi social media as a national hero.

The rebels said they had caused heavy losses in lives and equipment, including Apache helicopters. *(IAF pl take note of the vulnerability of $70M Apaches in all recent conflicts)
Yemeni media later reported Saudi missiles being fired in the Taiz area while the Saudis announced the deployment of forces on the border with Yemen.

The UN envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, had called for an open-ended ceasefire from Monday night – though it was unclear whether it would now come into force.

Yemen’s president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Photograph: Stringer/Reuters

The Mauritanian diplomat is looking for other confidence-building measures including releasing prisoners and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian supplies. Previous attempts to agree ceasefires have been preceded by attacks by both sides.

The negotiations are being held at an undisclosed Swiss location and under a news blackout that the UN says is designed to maximise the chances of success. A previous round of talks last June collapsed.

Hadi, backed by the Saudis, is demanding the strict implementation of a UN resolution calling on the Houthis to return weapons seized from the state and withdraw from territory captured over the past year, including the capital Sana’a. The Houthis want broader negotiations on the country’s political future.

The Houthis, who adhere to a branch of Shia Islam known as Zaidism, and Saleh’s forces have separate delegations, giving rise to hopes that they can be prised apart to help secure a deal.

But the Saudis and Emiratis, the leading members of the coalition, are not at the table – a potential weakness. Another is Hadi’s ability to deliver on an agreement, diplomats say.

“I don’t see see the serious possibility of an agreement,” said Ibrahim Freihat of the Brookings Doha centre. “The two parties are not on the same page and there is little common ground as a starting point. There is still a stalemate on the ground.”

Saudi Arabia has faced mounting criticism of the civilian casualties caused by its air strikes, as have its backers and arms suppliers – the US and Britain. The Saudis portray the Houthis as allies of Iran, their bitter regional rival, and insist their only goal is to restore Hadi’s government.

Focus on the more familiar crisis in Syria, and difficulties of access for journalists have meant that coverage of the Yemen conflict has been limited in western media.

But aid agencies warn that Yemen is one of the world’s worst crises and has deteriorated rapidly. Yemen after five months looks like Syria after five years, according to the International Red Cross.

Much of the country on the brink of famine, with 84% of the population – more than 21 million people – in need of aid. More than 20 million people cannot find clean water to drink.

Saudi Arabia is insisting on strict implementation of UN resolution 2216 and deeply mistrusts the Houthis. “Houthi forces must adhere to to the ceasefire,” said the Saudi analyst Mohammed al-Yayha. “Unfortunately, they have a track record of dishonouring their commitments.”

Critics counter that demands for disarmament and withdrawal will have to be interpreted flexibly if a deal is to be done since the original resolution was too favourable to Riyadh. Another complication is the Saudis’ fear of Iran’s influence, though that seems exaggerated to independent observers.

Peter Salisbury, a Yemen expert at Chatham House, said: “These talks turn the light on. Last time they were in Geneva the Yemeni parties wouldn’t even sit in the same room. It’s the very first step in a long series of events.”

Another alarming issue is the growth of al-Qaida and more recently of Isis.

“Everything in this situation that could have got worse has got worse,” said Adam Baron of the European Council on Foreign Relations.

“The humanitarian crisis is worse than ever. These talks are a tremendous opportunity, but it remains to be seen whether the parties will take it. It may be the last opportunity to save Yemen from heading into a downward spiral of the kind we’ve seen in Syria, Iraq and Libya.”

there is a king khalid airbase - a vast khanish place with lots of hangars and aprons - SE of khamis mushayt. it was hammered once by multiple tochkas in a famous attack few weeks ago and yesterday also I think by modded SA2 or tochkas in parallel to the attack on bab el mandab HQ in the south coast.

with maybe a 100m CEP on their missiles, "someone" must be passing them pretty realtime and good intel on juicy targets when they setup to fire off a few missiles.

Two Saudi warships were destroyed by Yemen’s army and popular forces in the waters near Bab al-Mandab Strait on Monday, bringing the number of the Saudi vessels sent down in the waters offshore Yemen to 10

http://southfront.org/2-other-saudi-war ... ni-forces/
The Saudi warships were reportedly two destroyers and were targeted by the Yemeni army missiles in the Al-Mukha coastal waters in the province of Ta’iz on Tuesday.

According to the Yemeni popular forces the sunken ships had repeatedly fired rockets at the residential areas in Ta’iz province, causing casualties and destruction there.

So far the Yemen’s army has destroyed ten warships of the Saudi-led coalition forces in Bab al-Mandab Strait in the last several months. Other Saudi battleships that were approaching Yemen’s coasts retreated fast following the attack.

with maybe a 100m CEP on their missiles, "someone" must be passing them pretty realtime and good intel on juicy targets when they setup to fire off a few missiles.

This is their Paki maal airbase?

10 ships down. That is better than TSPN 1971! Unfortunately the Saudis have many more.

Loss of 10 ships is massive and it shows poor planning and execution from the Soothie side.

The other thing is, if Yemen can improvise missiles that sink Soothie ships (relatively recent and well equipped), one can be sure that the neo-con wet dream of attacking eye-Ran will have really disastrous consequences for whoever tries it out.

GOP is already trying to find ways to cut him out of the nomination including an establishment run negative campaign. And if he breaks off and runs independent, there is no beating Hillary. Which is what the 'Deep State' wants any way. It would be a nightmare scenario for the Modi govt. But then India's and America's interests have seldom converged.
