Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
something is very off in these narration. AK keeps on saying the last FOC aircraft as number 36, when the last Tejas should be number 32. Last 8 are trainers out of the order of 40. If indeed the last one is 36 (and not 32), then 4 more SP (ioc/foc) have been made and 2 of them are being used for mk1a simulation. It's anybody's guess is what the other 2 are being used for, though one can have speculate for Uttam (but LSP-8 was for that), or some advanced EW version or even to qualify the canards? who knows. All based on the AK is not confused between 32 and 36 and he is reporting inadvertently the truth

you mean one of these guys missed their kindergarten counting class?
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
So in HAL counting, they have serially counted the 4 trainer (which is yet to complete, but on assembly line/planning paper somewhere) and kept counting so the 17th LCA already manufactured or first LCA FOC is the 21st LCA, hence the 4 difference?
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
what is very heartwarming is (and if can increase numbers beyond 83 then only this capability counts), aerodynamics wise we have a good platform -Now the capability increase is at the subsystem side - better radar, better EW, better AA or AG missiles, maybe in future EO pods...and the plane is current for next 20-30 years.
Of course the plane form and shape also has to evolve. Nothing is perfect for all times - towards that we have upgrade in aerodynamics via MK2, TEDBF, AMCA ...and they benefit from the upgraded systems of LCA. Now we have a self perpetuating system, only thing that has to be done is ensure short sightedness and corruption does not derail this.

Source: https://theprint.in/opinion/tejas-keeps ... ow/587028/Until this month, HAL was to produce two batches of LCA Mk.1 — one IOC batch of 16 single-seat fighters and four trainers, and one FOC batch of 16 fighters and four trainers. For various reasons, the two batches of fighters are being produced back to back, and will be followed by the combined eight trainers from both lots, built to a single unified (FOC) standard.

The tarmak video states the gun integration clearance is still pending. Can anyone elucidate what are the challenges with integrating the gun even though the FOC design revisions were signed off long ago? Are they not confident of safety? They still mention that butt firing trials are pending but I remember seeing a butt firing trail video from pre-2010 era? It just confuses me on why they are slow on solving this?
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
The video was of firing on ground. Not in-flight.

I have a question on Kaveri and Tejas engine bay.
GE 404/414 has diameter of 0.89m and length of 3.91m. Kaveri: 0.9093m and 3.49m."
So what was the plan to fit Kaveri if it ever was successful?
So Kaveri is 10 cm larger in diameter and half a meter shorter.
LCA designers have no use for that space.

About Uttam and Tejas Mk1A based on interview with Dr Seshagiri of LRDE
NFTC has given the green lightThe first 16 Tejas MK 1A aircraft will be fitted with Israeli ELM 2052 AESA radars and the remaining will be fitted with the indigenous Uttam AESA radar, HT has learnt. “The [Uttam] radar has already been tested on two Tejas fighters as well as Hawker Siddeley 800 executive jet for over 250 hours. The radar will be finally demonstrated in a flight this month
I wonder what imported subsystem it is.the developed AESA radar is 95% indigenous, with only one imported subsystem. It has the capacity to track 50 targets in the sky at a range in excess of 100km and engage four of them simultaneously.

The AESA radar will be mounted on the radar cone of Su-30 MKI aircraft as well as carrier-based MiG-29 K fighters of the Indian military, according to Seshagiri

As long ago as 2000/2001, Kaveri was written off by most people in the Tejas development path. GTRE had a terrible track record for delivery.ramana wrote:I have a question on Kaveri and Tejas engine bay.

.
By 2008 this was formalised and honestly that’s when the Tejas program came to life. No one expected or expects the Kaveri to power the Tejas.
Even if the issues with the engine were resolved in test bed mode by 2024, it would be early 30s or later by the time the time it was cleared to fly in service, which is too little, too late.
No one is focused on solving for this problem. In my view - rightly so.

Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
I think they are captured in the fuselage to prevent debris.
Also see that metal flashing above the muzzle to take the gun exhaust from heating that area.

Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A: News & Discussions: 04 January 2021
http://www.businessworld.in/article/Wit ... 21-412423/Manish K. Jha- What is the deadline for the first Tejas Mk 1A to be delivered to IAF? HAL also signed a $716 million contract with GE Aviation for F404-GE-IN20 engines for the Mk1A Tejas light combat aircraft. Does it incorporate MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) facility in India?
R. Madhavan- The contractual delivery milestone for the first Tejas Mk1A delivery is 36 months from the contract award date. Hence HAL will be delivering the first Mk1A by February 2024. The design activities are going on and probably what we are now expecting is that by March next year, i.e. 2022, the first flight of the Mark1A will happen. After that it takes a couple of years for them to do the testing with all the new systems in place. The target date will be ready by 2024, the first standard. So that is for the 83 LCA Mk 1A.
