This is something that everyone should be wary about. If they can try this on Putin, they can very well do so anywhere else. And its usually someone in the close circle.IndraD wrote:only yesterday Z was ranting Putin will die in hand of someone insider, and now HC is ranting! what has changed! (HC looking like Soros)

China, at the appropriate time, opens a can of worms:

You might have never heard of cities called "Khaishenvai", "Boli" or "Shuangchenzi" as well as the island of "Quedao", because that are the official names according the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources for Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Ussuriysk and Sakhalin, "newly" introduced
I cannot say that I'm surprised, aside that it happens a earlier.
When you look into (Chinese) history you will find the chapter of "Unequal Treaties" where parts of China were carved out and integrated into imperial powers, e.g. Britain, Germany, France, Japan and...Russia.
All imperial powers have left China (feudal borders) some time ago - Portugal in Macao was the last - except for one:
Russia
Of course you will not find any discussion regarding this in China, for political reasons, yet, but the sentiment never disappeared.
This is way it is insane to discuss anything regarding "historical" borders or even justify wars and annexations with it. It will backfire at you, at anyone, and cause absolute chaos.
Putin is far more a liability then must people realize, especially for Russia.
Source for initial tweet:
Vladivostok – Khaishenvay, and Ussuriysk – Shuangchenzi: China claimed the rights to 8 cities of Russia
Feb 27, 2023:
The Ministry of Natural Resources of China presented a map of the world, which used Chinese names for a number of Russian cities. A circular on the printing and distribution of specifications for public maps appeared on the website of the state structure.
Judging by the document, Beijing calls Vladivostok Khaishenvai, Blagoveshchensk Khailanpao, Khabarovsk Boli, Ussuriysk Shuangchenzi, and Sakhalin Island Kuedao. The Stanovoy Range, a mountain range in the southern part of the Far East, is called the Wai Xin’an Range.
“The state borders of the People’s Republic of China are drawn in accordance with the standard map approved and published by the State Council. The historical borders of China are drawn in accordance with the actual borders based on historical materials,” the circular said.
Re: Russian-Ukranian War: Geopolitical Fallout
Yeah yeah, the Middle Kingdom thinks everything belongs to it. When you can invent history you can invent any argument and claim whatever you want. They have done this with Tibet, and with areas on Indian borders. And there are many other instances. The only response that works is force.

Chinese foreign policy moves make zero sense, whether doklam or wolf warrior move.
And we keep tying ourselves into knots over wht n why they do.
Whatever makes sense, expect china to do something other than that.

Huawei Export Licenses Could Be Revoked by U.S.
After working for years to catch up on U.S. technology, China has developed a chip that can rival Nvidia’s powerful A100. WSJ unpacks the processors’ design and capability as the two superpowers race for dominance in artificial intelligence. Illustration: Sharon Shi
The Biden administration is considering revoking export licenses issued to U.S. suppliers for sales to Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies Co., according to people familiar with the matter, part of a broader tightening of technology trade over national security concerns.
“The policy that had allowed exports to Huawei, notwithstanding the entity listing, is being wound down,” said a former senior security official familiar with the administration’s policy deliberations. “The White House is now telling Commerce, ‘Cut off the 4G sales, the time has come to do more pain to Huawei, to try to finish their demise,’” the former official said.

Thanks for posting that, JEM. What makes this article interesting is the source -- The Spectator, closely tied to the Conservative Party and the conservative (with a small 'c') British establishment. (BTW, Boris Johnson used to be the editor-in-chief of the The Spec).JE Menon wrote:Mostly nonsense, but nonsense worth skimming through to get reinforced on the prevailing mindset in the UK ...
If The Spectator itself is saying this, it means the UK power-elite is trying to break the bad news gently to the gullible rubes on the street -- the war is going badly for the West, Ukraine is toast and the hated Putin is on the verge of victory.

Re: Russian-Ukranian War: Geopolitical Fallout
The Lithium story is turning the tables on those who were lithium rich in resources. The world powers were going to take advantage of those who did not have the resources and arm-twist them into submission with high costs and access issues. Now with India and Iran announcing large finds of lithium in their nations, a new equilibrium will have to be fashioned. Lithium becomes a commodity that has multiple sources and sane prices/controls will become the norm.

"Moscow’s diplomatic mission to build ties and hone a narrative over the past decade has paid dividends."
"Look at Africa... Their refusal to side clearly with Ukraine was testament to Russia’s ongoing diplomatic efforts in the developing world."
"Vladimir Putin is quite deliberately cultivating this alliance of nations who feel victims of western imperialism, and putting Russia at its head." (This is a flat out falsehood, he has said nothing of the kind, nor has any minister from Russia).
"Putin is a master of whipping up anti-American sentiment. In his address to the Federal Assembly last week, he referenced western military interventions in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya and Syria." (The suggestion is that these "interventions" were actually perfectly fine).
"Putin’s Russia even audaciously claims the high ground on racial discrimination." (Not quite, because Russia does not claim to be racism free, but neither does it position itself as a paragon of racial equality).
"Moscow thus presents itself as a bastion of stability in a world gone mad, even as it seeks to destabilise the world and make it even madder." (One would think Russia was the one which invaded all those countries in the past three decades. Russia did not expand out until Feb. 2022, and no Crimea is no more an expansion than POK would be if we took it back).
"Arms were another inducement, although poor battlefield performance in the past year has diminished its reputation as a weapons superpower." (One the one hand these guys whine about returning Ukrainian territories and on the other about "poor battlefield performance", while the head of NATO forces Europe says they "did not imagine" a war like this).
There's plenty more of such rubbish but I think this should do.

WRT, the Thomas Meaney article posted above and the Definition of victory for Ukrainian victory as access to common EU Market.
The cold hard fact is that Russians were open to that before the war began in 2014.
It's the EU that created the EU or Russia dilemma for Ukraine in 2013-14. That is the cause of the current mess.
If the Russians end the war on their terms. I would not be so sure that the Russians will concede anything to the west.
