Naval Harrier pilot remains untraced
[Chennai Online New Service, 06 April 2007]

Panaji: Chances of finding Lt Commander Saurabh Tewari, the second pilot onboard the ill fated Naval sea harrier trainer aircraft which crashed off the Goa coast alive appeared bleak, as helicopters, aircraft and warships have found no trace of him even after 36 hours of search. "Warships, coastguard vessels and aircraft scouring the crash site have still to come across any sign of the pilot", a Naval spokesman said. "The search will go on", he said as the Naval authorities constituted a board of inquiry to trace the cause of the crash of the Harrier. Lt Commander Tewari and Commander Vikram Menon were controlling the fighter when it crashed after returning from a training sorties yesterday morning. Menon was winched up by Naval helicopters with 30 minutes of the crash, while there was no sign of young Tewari. Both the pilots had ejected from the aircraft before it crashed into the Arabian sea. The trainer version of the Harrier had only been inducted into service last year. Navy is presently undertaking a midlife refit of its harrier fleet.
