You can't complete the operation with 200 comandos. There are hostage situations in several locations. The OPs need them in thousands.

Pakistan recently received IMF tranche.
what are the pre-conditions for that loan .. somalian hijacking and Indian Navy operations in Gulf of Aden.

Pakistan by itself just doesn't have balls to do something of this nature, there are larger forces at play here.

Why is the NSG taking so much time, and why don't they have NSG permanently stationed in major metros around India ?

R.R.Patil (Mah Dy. CM/Home Minister) and Chhagan Bhujbal were on TV just now. More reassuring and on top of things than the national leadership.

The Government is now asking people to stay at home on Thursday - until the go-ahead comes from the Government. NSG team is in Mumbai and will be on the spot shortly. Two sites where an encounter is still on - Cama Hospital and Taj Hotel. Acc. to Mah. Govt. spokesman, the patients in the hospital have all been taken into one ward and that ward has been secured. But terrorists are still in the hospital and there is firing going on. 2 terrorists dead and 9 suspects arrested.

Latest visuals - major fire at the Taj Hotel - heavy smoke billowing out of the top floor, close to the dome, as well as fire.

It is extremely sad to see one of the landmarks of Mumbai in smoke and coming down. The hotel's doom is coming down in few minutes. It is 9/11 feeling in Mumbai.

There is currently a visual of copious amounts of smoke bellowing out of the top dome of the old Taj hotel. Even the anchor was too shell shocked to say anything. The old Taj is a heritage site and one of Mumbai's iconic landmarks. Guess the morning will shed some light on the real extent of the whole situation.

Police needs tp block all roads. They cannot allow a car b*** etc go near these hotels and explode with lots of army personnel around. Also hospitals needs to be cordoned and made safe.

Heard this on BBC world service, supposedly a letter was sent to the authorities before the terrorist attacks, claiming credit by Deccan Mujhadeen. Who the hell are these guys? Is it just a front? Most likely in my opinion. Has anyone before heard of these guys?

This may very well become the straw that broke the camel's back. Bomb attack by no-face terrorists is one thing. Brazen open gun-totting attack is completely in different league. Similar to the Pariliament attack.

Who gains by this attack?
  • May be someone desperately wants India to go to war with TSP. (TSP military to prevent their institution going down the drain due to the sellouts of Zardari)
D company, because they are cornered like Ramana says...
Someone, especially in the west, who wants to change the focus from something else back to terrorism. I am mentioning west because if American citizens are not targetted then it won't be a news in USA and or the rest of the west.
Whatever it is, I hope it forces the government to get out of their minority appeasment mode in the name of votes.

But who knows, if past is any indication of what is going to happen now, MMS (and Advani) may warn that India will lose its patience if Pakistani and Islamic terrorists crosses the limit again. MMS may also lose his sleep over how the public will treat the terrorist families. May God save India.

PM condemns terror attacks in Mumbai

November 27, 2008 01:15 IST
Last Updated: November 27, 2008 02:13 IST
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] condemned the terror attacks in Mumbai on Wednesday night and assured all help to Maharashtra in meeting the situation.

The Prime Minister's Office said Singh was in touch with Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and was monitoring the situation.

Deshmukh also said that he was in touch with the central government which had assured all help to meet the 'very serious' situation.

He said he had talked to Home Minister Shivraj Patil [Images], who assured that the Centre would provide all the assistance required by Maharashtra.

The Centre has immediately decided to dispatch National Security Guard commandos to supplement the efforts being made by local police and CRPF, Deshmukh said.

"We are trying to control the situation," he said.

BJP chief terms the situation 'critical': Terming the Mumbai attacks as 'deplorable act of cowardice', BJP chief Rajnath Singh condemned the terror strikes on Wednesday night, saying people of India would fight back the menace of terrorism.

"It is a time of crisis for the nation I condemn the attacks.

"It is an act of cowardice which the people of India would fight back. It is time to be united and render the moral support to the security forces," Singh told PTI over phone from Jaipur [Images].

"My party expresses deepest condolence to the relatives of the dead," he added.

Singh termed the situation as 'critical' and called upon the United Progressive Alliance government to rise up to the people's expectation and fight terror without any bias or consideration.

They are going to collapse this hotel, that is the plan. The ongoing explosions in my mind are to weaken the structure and/or to execute hostages.

One of the reports said that firefighters are standing by but unable to access the hotel because of firing and explosions.

Latest report says that fire engines are moving in now.

This is truly a 911 moment for Mumbai and India. One of India's iconic buildings, and also one of the best preserved heritage buildings in India is on fire. I don't know what to say.

CNN probably made a clear plan even before the terror strike began.
they need to cripple economies around the world for their plan to bear fruit.

CNN is just talking the exact same thing now. The tone of CNN has changed to one of supporting India in the last 30 minutes. Before that it was not so supportive and there were multiple reference to Hindu terrorists (Barbara Starr). Now in the past 30 minutes, there is no reference to any Hindus and there is mention of "a very close ally of America".

Someone must have sent some instructions to CNN.

By the way, the Map of India shown on CNN, did not include the entire state of J&K and I had sent an email to them now.
